09/28/2002 Cruise

My poor, poor, sister!:( Her new computer got a virus and she spent hours on the phone with the Dell people trying to get it fixed. She is NOT a happy camper. With all the excitement of booking excursions, new additions to the boards, and the cruise in 9 weeks, she is extremely frustrated.:( She is currently waiting for a new disk to be snail mailed to her. This should take a few days, then she should be back up and running. I will do my best to pass along any important messages via our daily phone calls.

Ave,

please send our best wishes to your sister, we can feel with her.
But you know how it is: Sometimes we use our computers to solve problems, we didn't have without a computer ;)

Cruisears,

watch out!! Our Cruisetoberfest II-Thread really got moving this weekend - And we're only 1250 posts behind you ;)

Kathy,

so am I !!
My colleagues at the office already suspect that I will get a flashback of last year's cruise-fever and start throwing things at me whenever I talk about it :jester:

Mike,

Anja may be as small as Tinkerbelle, but I'm getting smaller, too: I already lost about 20 pounds since the cruise due to a new training schedule (I started running 6 times a week in January). Next week I will take my tuxedo to the tailor. I bought it for Cruisetoberfest and last week when I tried it on I lost my pants ;) I have to have it altered as we will go to a club on Fuerteventura (Similar to Club Med) which also has one formal night per week.

We're really looking forward to meet you again, but we also know that a kid is also a financial challenge for the Grandparents - At least I was ;) BUt I pays back, too: Next week, when Anja has her annual summerparty with her ward, I take my Gramps (Age 89) with our new convertible to the Rhine-Valley to visit his cousin (Age 88). He hasn't seen her for about 50 years and she found him via the Internet. So I invited him for a ride in the new car and he is more than looking forward to it.

Now it's Disney-time: George of the Jungle just started on TV and I have to watch it (It's one of my favourites): LOOK OUT FOR THE TREE!!!!!!!!!!!!! :jester:

Another serious chocoholic here! I have a major sweet tooth actually. I have been trying to be so good before the cruise -- I've been on a diet and have so far lost 17 pounds. (When the baby is almost 4 you can't call it baby weight anymore!)

Ave --Send Mary my sympathy about her computer. Mine was out of commission last weekend and I was a wreck. I had to go to my Inlaws daily to use their computer. I do my work on the computer and without that I'm toast.

Hope everyone is getting very excited about the cruise. I haven't given any thought to excursions yet. Guess I need to start my research about them and figure out what I want to do. Then I have to show it all to DH. I am the researcher and he gets to say the "yes dears."

I'm trying to put together a tentative itinerary with what days I think I will be at what restaurants. It's not like planning a Disney trip, which I can do without hesitantcy. This I an area I don't have enough expertise to say thing definitively.

I did buy the younger daughter a Belle dress at the Disney store. My older one has a Cinderella dress already. I was thinking they would wear them for the Semi-formal night.

Well, that's enough rambling for now.

Ave tell Mary that we are sorry that her puter is down. We have nortons installed on our computer that has the firewall and antivirus together. It checks incoming and outgoing email by scanning it and defeats hackers trying to break into our system by the use of the personal firewall. My norton's catches at least one to two virus every day coming in my email and places them in quarentine(sp) and then I delete them from my computer.

Family reunion went well and we survived for another year;) Eric tell Anja we said hello and the best to your grandfather on his trip to the rhine valley.

Beth good luck with your planning. Mike

I will send all your reguards to Rellingtwin. I spoke with her this afternoon. She feels like she lost contact with all her friends. But I read all the resent posts to her, and even got her e-mail for her. That made her happy.:D
Our family has finally desided on which excusions to go on. Key West: None. Hope to meet up with Shirley and Norm at some point, maybe do the Conch on our own. Going to hang in Mallory Square before sunset to watch the fun. GC: Capt. Marvin stingray tour. Cozumel we will be doing a small group snorkle/dive with a private outfit. We were going to do the Fury, but had a change of plans. At CC we are just going to hang out.

Hi guys -

Hope all is well. Sorry to hear about Papa's illness and Relling's computer.....

Quick question, does anyone know the latest rotation of Dinner (e.g., Formal night, captains Gala, Mexicali.......) I have seen three different versions on the boards lately and I am trying to figure out what night I can miss for Palo's.

Thanks,
Lauren

mlshields, my understanding is that both formal nights will be on days at sea..9/30 and 10/3. 10/3 is slated as night for Capt. Gala. Hope this helps. Twinave

Hello to all....most of you are familiar with power_alaska ;) , I'm his other half. I am finally home for more than just a few days, so I decided to register and login. Reading all 88 pages has been interesting. Thank you for all the suggestions about a birthday present for me. Despite what he wrote "I am not a Road Boss" I want a truck cause I am the one that always finds the really "BIG" something to buy and have no way to get it home....which means I have to call a friend with a truck or pass up the item. As for the "Man Book" I do believe all of you ladies know about it and probably invoke when you need or want to. That's in the "Man Book" too. We ladies get to do that, invoke whatever we want just to keep confusion reigning with the menfolk.

I do have a question....Capt Marvin's?? How do I get Dennis and I on that excursion? We will be at the Radisson on the 26th and are looking forward to meeting all of you and have a great time.

Take care to all, GB and stay safe.:earsboy:

Nancy--I'll bring you a Pennsylvania Mickey pin. I've never been to the Lancaster Disney Store. All our stores have been going through some changes with regard to product stocked. I work in a core store, which is probably the same size as the one in Lancaster. The bigger stores are called spotlight stores, and they carry a wider selection of merchandise. The closest spotlight to me is in King of Prussia. It's actually about the same distance from my home to that store as the store where I work (Exton), but the traffic is horrid going to King of Prussia.

Alabama--I think a truck is a great birthday present--never thought to ask for one myself. I do like the Man Book idea. I can't believe you read all these pages!

Hope everyone has a magical weekend--

Karen

Good morning and Thank God for the nine lives he saved this morning, about time for some good news. I would think that most of us (husbands) that have been married for some time don't even question WHY ...it just ain't worth the effort anymore. Then there some of us that never learned we should have been lawyers going point counter point.....settle. Every body healthy and happy we hope so! Still undecided on what to do in Mexico ruins/park that bus ride seems like a waste of time but I love history and I took Myan history in school so I would love to see in person what I read about. Have a great day and a better tomorrow. :earsgirl: :earsboy:

Twinave-

I just read on one of the other threads that the Captain's Gala is on Monday. Soooo...which is it? This is what they had:

Sat-Casual
Sun-Casual
Mon-Formal (Capt's Gala)
Tue-Casual
Wed-Mexicali
Thur-Semi-Formal
Fri-Small World

I'll look on some other threads too. I've been trying to figure out what night to go to Palo's too with all the different rotations.

Also, Ave, are you excited about Bruce's new CD coming out Tuesday?

Kimber

My husband and 5 1/2 yr old daughter are traveling on this cruise; we went last year Eastern at same time and loved it! My daughter loves the pool, but we could not get her in it--she loved the oceaneers club so much; we took her out for St Martin and she begged to stay in the Oceaneer Club at St Thomas so we toured the island without her. Only negative for us was we could never get a pool chair; towels were on all of them even early in the AM. Disney should not let people leave towels on chairs they don't use until later!
Paolo's for brunch was great; I enjoyed the wine tasting. The ocean was a little rough and it was very windy one day since at this time it was hurricane season. We had purchased an ocean view deluxe room and at last minute wanted to upgrade at the port--it cost about $400 and was well worth it.It was probably available since at this time it was only 2 weeks after 9/11. We were taking no chances this time and booked the deluxe verandah cat 6-- it was about $600 more this time--we were so pleased with ours last year; used it all the time! We stayed at the Radison and took the Avis shuttle to the port. Our car rental for mid sized is under $50; we are only paying $59 for our room at the Radison which is the cheapest we have ever gotten there and we stay there a lot since we have relatives closeby. We also paid for our trip with Amer Express card so are paying $57 extra to get the goodies and the $250 ship credit. I learned of this from those who posted--Thanks so much!We are happy we are supposed to make Paolo reservations early--30 days before cruise. I think we will request Monday night since it is formal night--my husband would rather dress up as little as possible and he feels awkward not wearing a jacket if it is semi-formal or formal night. On Eastern cruise he refused to bring a sports jacket so on those nights we ate upstairs at Topsiders and that made me unhappy since I missed Lumiere's etc. This time he is bringing one. Also since our little girl wants to eat with oceaneers kids anyway, we opted for late dinner and are glad it may be at 7:45P, since in two ports it will feel an hour later. (since there is a time difference)
Hope to see you all on the cruise!

Welcome aboard Donna to the most friendly bunch of folks that you are ever going to meet. Several of us sailed last year on the 09/22/2001 cruise which we called the cruisetoberfest. We are having a precruise meet at the radisson poolside at 8 pm for all of us on the 09/28 cruisears cruise please join us if you are able.

We are trying to get reservations for the brunch at Palo's on Monday the 30 of September at 10. TwinAve is in charge of this function. We have quite a large group and some of us are going on excursions together. The main thing though is just the comaraderie(sp) and when we run into one another on the ship just to wave and say hello. It is just like having family around you. You don't have to feel obligated to spend time together, just wave and say hi:bounce:

Relling twin has a list of our group, but her computer is sick and she will be posting again soon. Glad that you are cruising the same time as us and you are more than welcome to join us and our merry band of young at heart.

Just wanted to say hello to all of our fellow cruisers this morning and also to celebrate the rescue of the nine miners there in PA. Mike

Are you guys pin collectors? Should I be looking for the NJ pin for anyone? Let me know.

What is this about booking Palo's at 30 days? Did I miss something?

Can I speak in only questions today? What's the deal with that?

I agree with Beth did we miss something, if we can book Palos for dinnes or tea or even Brunch that comes as a big surprise to me. I think it is a wonderful idea and would allow us to enjoy our first day on the ship more. Also I tried to watch the Wonder leave today and got to the web site, a little late maybe, and saw a all white ship pass but can someone tell me what camera they watch. This is a cool site though. the heat returned up here with a vengence all those clouds and no water. But with the miners safe and with the central on its bearable. Hope all is well with everyone and their computers too. Have a great week everyone and lets reduce our wait time one more week. See YA!:earsgirl::earsboy:

To the best of my knowledge, you cannot book Palo's in advance. I spoke to DCL today to double check.

Beth we are going to stand in line and help Ave with the Palo reservations for the brunch when we board. Mike

Beth, just found a message from you and tried to email you. No luck. Can you email me with your email address?? Thanks:-)
My son William is an avid pin collector and would love the NJ pin if you can get it. We have lots of other pins and woull love to trade with you or pay you for it. I am pretty sure you cannot book Palos ahead of time. We couldn't last time and a friend who cruised a few weeks ago couldn't either.

Welcome Deb and family.

We are making up a little "spud packet" for everyone for the sail away party. Nothing too big, just some little Idaho things. Am getting excited now. School starts in two weeks for my kids. They are looking forward to it as much as Me!! My last little guy starts 1st grade. I am kinda looking forward to some time alone, but I think I might get a little lonely too. Will have to do some mega scrapbooking!

Have a nice week all. Elaine
