09/28/2002 Cruise

Elaine ~ sorry I took so long to respond. I wasn't ignoring you, I just started back to school to work on my MBA and can we say busy. I don't even have time to think about our cruise which should really make the time fly! We are actually going down a couple of days early so will be breezing through the airport before you. I'll leave you some pixie dust though.;)

I have some questions about brunch. Are we going to try to get the big room? I thought our group was too large now. Then I heard something about splitting into two groups. Then I heard that we were just going to try to get together on tables in the main dining room.

My nightmare is that I'll be thinking that someone else is doing this and then we end up not getting to go to brunch because I just spaced it! Can anyone give me an update? I don't even remember who was taking the lead on this so I don't know who to ask! Story of my life. Really bad memory and I'm too lazy/busy to go through all the pages. We really are a chatty bunch!

Shelly (Tiiiigergirl) TwinAve is the one who is doing the brunch reservations. The current plan is to book several large table for 10 on Monday. Ave will have a list of Dis'ers with cabin # and will get on line either herslf or with several other Dis'ers to make the reservations. All you have to do is to show up!
Have you heard from KellyR? I wondered if she and her mom would like to join the Brunch?

RaeAnn...I put you and your mom down for attending the Brunch. I will be sure Ave has you on her list.

Thank you so much for including us on the Brunch!
Now if you need us to do any "standing in line" or anything - let us know!!

Just returned from the laundromat! Havent been there since my four were all toddlers and it was easier to go and do laundry all at once rather that all day! Anyway my one year old washer broke yesterday and I had oodles of washing to do so went and did it in one fell swoop. Am trying to pack for coast vacation.

Tiiiigergirl, I too am gong back to school this fall to get my Masters in Reading. Haven't been teaching for awhile but am planning on getting back into the schools in the next couple of years.

We were planning on staying at the Raddisson the night we get back so we could see the launch. If there won't be one, maybe we will just go over to disney. How do you find out if there is one scheduled or not?
thanks all Elaine

All your space shuttle information!

Just as we were departing the Port for Orlando International, we did get to see the retrieval ship and the ejected portion of the shuttle (I forgot what it is called), but the DCL bus driver told us about it and we even got to take pictures while the bridge opened up for the ship to pass through. NEAT!

That would be the solid rocket boosters:cool:
Saw the magic dock at key west today. here is the link key west just click on the sunset cam link. We are baby sitting again tonight as Stacey has school in the morning. Does anyone know how the lovebugs are this year? Mike

Yipee...another Dis'er has sent info. Disvaclub92 has given me her "vitals" ((sorry, nurse joke) and I will be sending an update tonight. We are up to version 13!!!

If you have not already, say hello to Jul!!!!!!!!

Karen (Riker'sMom) ... You may want to try and find something with DH's scent on it and let Riker cuddle up to it. That may help. I know AshLee is not happy till we are both home and when I have to go away that throws her in a tizzy. Let me know if that helps!

Back to sweltering here in PA - guess it's trying to get me ready for the cruise :bounce: .

Does anyone know how you get one of the "celebration cakes" at dinner. I'd like to see how we can get one for our Anniv and Mike/Kathy's Anniv. ?????

Can't remember (senior moment) Do they have an ice machine with water by the coffee machine outside of Topsiders? Thinking of taking my own iced tea mix with me (DeCaf Green Tea with Honey) ... of late I guess I really have to watch my caffene.

As soon as anyone hears about the fall rates of the WDW hotels, please let me know ... need to get a room for 4 nights after cruise!

Check back later ....... Cathy

Cathy,

Mousesavers has all the new codes posted this am. Code is CKO.

All Star $74

CBR, PO $99

Plus codes for AKL, WL, Contemporary, Poly and GF

I'm going to call tonight for my 2 nights after the cruise. Either for All Star or PO since just did CBR in June.

For the celebration cake, I had told the TA for our June cruise (was DS gradution) and she took care of it for us. There were many celebrations in the dining room that night. Plus the cake got tilted by me when we took the remainder back to the room and had sprinkles everywhere.

I am pretty sure that there is ice up by the coffee machine. You think I would know that since I was just there and the coffee machine is just by the cookies and made multiple trips to the cookie bar.

Was at Hersheypark yesterday and it wasn't too bad with the heat and humidity. It wasn't hot enough for me to do the water rides. Plus there was a mid afternoon shower and cooled down some after that. It was nearly enough rain.

My grass is also dead as is the entire neighborhood. Saves having to mow.

Enjoy your day.

Nancy

We had an Anniversary cake during our February cruise. The Disney Reservation Clerk asked if we had any celebrations or birthdays and I mentioned 20th anniversary - we were very surprised with the cake and it made a nice midnight snack!

Another couple told their server of a birthday and a cake "magically" appeared!

I highly doubt I'll ever go with another cruise line because I am so spoiled by what I've come to expect with Disney that I don't want to be disappointed!!!!!
(Plus I'd miss the mouse!)

Papa, thanks for helping me out with that rocket booster! It was at the tip of my tongue!!!

Any other homeschooling families coming onboard for our cruisefest?

Rae

Nancy ..... Thank You, Thank You, Thank You ... I'll get on the net with my DU agent to get booked for Dixie Landings (I mean PO). We really love that place and this is our only vacation blkow out each year.

The poconos are just as dry as you are ... first we have too much rain and then it dried up and turned to tumbleweeds! It's killing my sinuses (allergy I guess). DD AshLee isn't even happy cause she can't find any cool places in the yard to snooze.

Well this weekend is another NASCAR RACE at LongPond ... gotta remember to stay away from that areas WalMart, etc. Traffic gets NUTS!

Florida isn't having any fires lately ... that gets scary down there cause it spreads much too easily.

I know, I'm anal but I think it's time to get out the old maps and make sure I have the routes down pat for the drive down. Flying down is much faster BUT so afraid that something could happen and not be able to make the ship (like last year). The plus is that then we don't have to worry about renting a car and get to see this wonderful country of ours. Bad new is that it's tough on my back and rumpus! Art got me a really neat back massager pad for Christmas that plugs into the car or home ... gotta pack it so we can take turns getting massaged. MIKE - did you ever find one?

Mike - How's the leg with the cellulitis? How's your back been lately?

Back to work ... Cathy

PS - Mary, you might want to spell-check this List ... What's a newpew? ;) Really you are doing a great job!

Goofynut - received the package in the mail on Friday, thanks very much. I assume the larger ones are for front and back, but what about the smaller ones? Light blue shirts, correct??

We're now just a week away from signing up for excursions - can we do this via email with DCL or would be better advised to fax them? Do they have a specific form for booking excursions? We're looking at a snorkeling tour at Grand Cayman (possibly the shipwreck), and a Mayan ruins tour on Cozumel (both kids have studied Mexico in school) . Haven't quite decided about Key West - we might do a short tour and spend the rest of the time exploring the ship, since it's our first full day aboard.

Have any of the previous cruisers done the Banana Boats at Castaway Cay? DS would really like to try them, but at $1/min it better be quite the experience. :)

We're still undecided about the brunch at Palo's but given that we hope the kids will want to ditch us as soon as we're onboard that should free up some time for us.

Last question: For those of you who have been at the Radisson before - is the Avis counter easy to locate? We're renting a car at MCO when we arrive on Wednesday and will be dropping it off Saturday morning at the Radisson. (I'll actually drop everyone else off at the ship before I return the car.) I presume the shuttle back to the port is also easy to find. Thanks.

- MikeJ

MikeJ ... The small one (from the package) was if you had a really small child and needed the appropriate size. Some people are putting a small one on the front and a large one on the back. Whatever you choose. Light blue or white whatever you are able to find. Happy you got the mail OK.

BTW did you get any notice about what proofs were needed for the cruise? I'm thinking you are from Canada and may now need a passport.

Key West we are doing the same, doing a little exploration and then maybe back to ship.

Glad to see you posting again ... we missed you! In case you haven't seen, we are getting bigger and bigger group by the day!

Rikersmom (Karen) - Thank you for the answer about the polar bear. I didn't think so, I was just wondering ...

Dennis

Cathy still have the cellulitis and a return trip to the dr for wednesday. Had lunch at the cracker barrel and we were baby sitting. Small babies make great babe magnets the girls just swarm around. All of the lookers today were my age, and Kathy said that is what having a babe magnet gets you. I told her we were just trolling in a stream with older fish;) need to take the baby to the mall for the young fish;)

Cathy the massager is on my to do list. Tried my blazer on again and I just can't eat too my oreo's between now and the cruise:D

Ave how are the love bugs this year in fl? Going to take Kathy's bug down and need to know how much bug remover to bring with us so that the paint doesn't get ruined. Mike

Mike ... :( about the cellulitus .... Do you guys have a "wound care center" near you. They may be able to get a handle on it for you.
Now HEAL!

BTW ... the grandbabby is a babe magnet! TOOOOOOO FUNNY. Enjoy every minute cause they seem to grow up too fast.

Came home from work .... wet down the dog (AshLee) jumped in the pool, paddled around for an hour + ... wet down the dog again ... OK, now I'm ready to do a few things around the house.

Check back later......

The group is now up to 30. Thanks to all of you who said they would help get the reservations. We were going to get the big room, we just got to BIG for it!:D And there's room for more if anyone out there is thinking about it. I will take a final count before we leave home on Friday 9/27, so don't feel rushed, also OK to back out if something else comes up.
Mike, lovebugs are not a problem yet, but come Sept. they can get pretty thick. Someone told me about coating the front of thier car with veg. oil before a trip. I might have to try that. Couldn't hurt right?
Mary, Thanks for the list. DH (Mark) has desided to join up at GC and Capt. Marvin's. He will do the dive in Cozamel. But with his ear problems of late he doesn't want to risk having and earache for the cruise, and two dives might be too much.
Later, Ave

MikeJ...The DCL excursions are booked via phone or fax. I have not seen anything about e-mailing in the requests. I plan on faxing mine at 7:30am on July 30th!:D

The Avis Counter is very easy to find. It is right in the lobby of the hotel. Last year DH drove me and kids to the port, dropped us and the luggage off, drove back to the Radisson, parked the car, and hopped on the next shuttle. Because he was a "party of one" with no luggage he did not have to wait. He still had to 'check in at the port, but by that time we were already on line to board (and there was a LONG line behind us). One tip if you do this...KEEP your ticket/ID with you! You will need it to get back into the port area, even if you are on a shuttle. We sailed 11 days after 9/11 and security was tight. No person without a ticket and ID was allowed in the terminal.

I hope you can join us for the Brunch! It will be a lot of fun to have all the Dis'ers together for an "adult" meal! GREAT photo op!

Happy Birthday to Reggie (RellingTwin's DD) too!!

Just back from Branson, MO. We had a lot of fun--there is soooo much to do there. We had some REALLY turbulent flights though. I'm not a good flier anyway and turbulence certainly does not help. I have two months now to get the bravery level back up. We are flying in to Orlando the Wednesday before the cruise in the late evening. We will be staying at the Wilderness Lodge. If anyone else is coming down early and is staying there, let me know.

I was only gone a few days and there is several pages of notes for me to catch up on. I suppose for the next 60 days is it will be a page or two a day, right?

Got to go unpack.
