09/28/2002 Cruise

I don't know Mary -- do you really think that many of us being together would be an adult anything?

Hi, Kimber--

We'll be in WDW Thursday & Friday. Not sure not whether to use DVC points or to just pay real $ for our room. I'll let you know when we decide what the plan is.

Karen

We fly on Wednesday morning, arriving around 9:30. We hope to do one of the water parks that day (Typhoon Lagoon?) and the two days at USF/IoA. We're staying at the new Royal Pacific Resort at USF for the three nights before the cruise. We've never stayed onsite at USF before, and are looking forward to making use of their FOTL access.

We'd have stayed at a DVC resort for those nights, but we've used all but 4 of our 2002 points on the cruise, and didn't want to get into a perpetual borrowing situation. ;)

Hi all!

My roommate and I are booked on the 9/28 cruise as well. This is only the second cruise I've ever been on (the first was the Big Red Boat way back in '91 for three days). So as you can imagine I'm pretty excited. I just received my mailing today from the cruise line regarding the shore excursions. There are just so many options and so little time.

I was really hoping to go see a pyramid while in Mexico. DO you guys have any opinions on which of the Cozumel tours would be the best chance to see such a thing? But then also, I'm concerned that it might not be worth it to spend the day riding in the bus to and from the ruins? Ideas?

We'll be flying in Friday night and staying at the new Beach Club Villas, and then riding the bus to the port Saturday morning. I was talking with my uncle about the cruise (he's been on several DCL and others) and he told me that if you miss Palo's, then it's like you didn't even cruise. Does that seem to be the general opinion around here as well?

Well sorry to go on so long, but I am very excited about the trip coming up soon!

-Wayne

BethE.. Here's hoping none of the trip is too adult. That's why we love Disney!:smooth:
Kimber: We stayed at the Wilderness Lodge 12/2000. It was great! More $ per room night then we usually spend, but well worth it. It was 2 weeks before Christmas and the lobby was DECKED out. Fa La La La La! :Pinkbounc
Agonizing about the excursions, we want to do the horseback riding, Fury Cat. and the Jeep tour in Cozumel. Just going to have to flip a coin I guess.

Welcome aboard Wayne and roommate. Ave we are just a big kid at heart:)

Going to have to go to home depot tomorrow and get a mosquito magnet. They are so bad that I can't use my pool. They cover your legs and stuff if you go outside.

Good thing that I am already married as Kathy's family reunion is this weekend. You know what they say about family reunions in the south. ;)

Mike

No grown ups here! I like to say that I really have three kids -- my two girls and my DH.

I've got to talk to my DH about the excursions. He keeps talking about keeping the cost of the trip down and not spending a lot of $$ on the ship. I'm also not sure how much we can do with out 4 year old.

I will be content to just be on the ship!

Welcome to the group Wayne and your roommate!

WELCOME Wayne and roommate! So glad you are joining the cruise. Your uncle is correct, you MUST do Palos! If you are interested in the Brunch with the DIS'ers, let TwinAve know. She is going to be making reservations for apx. 30 of us for the Brunch at Palos on Monday at 10am. We would love for you both to join the gang.
We too are trying to figure out Cozumel excursions! The ruins sound very cool, but the LONG bus ride is not something I want to do with my kids in tow! The Jeep tour looks like a blast, but pretty pricey for a family of 4!The Fury looks like fun, but we are ging to be snorkeling for 1/2 in Grand Cayman the day before. We could just grab a cab and hit a beach club for the day!All the months I have been planning this, you'd think I would know what to do:confused:
Wayne if you and your roommate would like a copy of the DIS LIST(a list of the cruisers with info about us) just e-mail me at RellingTwin@aol.com and I will give you the details. The list has info such as "real names" hometown, ages, occupations, dinning time ect.

Welcome aboard Wayne and roommate. Here is a web site that gives you some indepth descriptions of the Mayan ruins http://www.mayasites.com

I believe the two choices from Disney excursions are the
San Gervasio on Cozumel Island and Tulcum. It seems that Tulcum is better than San Gervasio from what I have gathered from these boards and additional information from the internet. The one thing I know for sure is that Tulcum is very hot.

Mike--Since wound care is my area of expertise and I run a wound clinic maybe I need to do a consultation for your leg. Should I have you take a picture and sent to me.

Cathy--- I called and got Port Orleans French Quarter for the $99/night. I thought we would try that side instead of Dixie Landing (Riverside). CRO did tell me that the AP codes aren't out yet, so maybe when they come out I'll get a better deal. If the price is right might try AKL or WL.

Got my shore excursions documents in the mail. There are like 4 different sting ray excursions and all at different prices. Unable to tell the difference in some of them. Will have to research it.

Welcome Wayne & anyone else I may have missed.

Thank you all (especially padisneyfan) for the discussion & link about the Mayan sites. Was just asked that by Alabama during our nightly "loveya" call what excursions I wanted to go on. Like Rellingtwin, an hour bus ride is NOT very appealing. Cannot forget a bus ride into the mountains of Venezula a few years back ~ (NO AC on bus!) I think 8 miles commute (RT) to work is torture! Of course, I Bama would like to go to see the "ruins" ~ anybody want to bet where we go? Of course, I should be thinking about "TULUM is HOT". Alaska is not going to stay a "toasty" 68 degrees for much longer.

Can anyone suggest a birthday gift for Bama's 50th birthday? Have been searching for months but cannot find anything. PLEASE, consider, she doesn't need anything - NOTHING - Zilch!
Looks like jewelry again!!! BORING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

HH&GB to all

Am I the only one that has not made their final payment? Not sure why I have waited so long, I suppose I just don't want to let go of the $$$.

Vonda

You are not the only one Vonda. I'm holding out to the last minute too. Trying to spread it out on the credit cards.

Nancy,

I thing I figured it out on the different Sting Ray excursions:

1. a tour before the Sting Ray excursion ( Island Tour & Snorkeling with Stingrays) - $60adult - $50 child.

2. the Sting Ray excursion then a tour (Stingray City Snorkeling & Discover Cayman Tour) - $55adult - $45child

3. Just the Sting Ray excursion (Stingray City Snorkel Tour) - $45adult - $35child

4. Rum Point Beach Adventure & Stingray City (Hang out at the beach and then a glass bottom boat ride over StingRay City) - $65adult - $60 child

I would really like to do 2. - but I have a DD that is 4 going on 5 (Nov.)- so I may have to do it through Capt. Marvins on my own - Disney requires the child to be 5 - Marvins allows 4 year olds.

Hope that helps.

Thought I was done last night with the last newbies name tags, etc ... Then this morning I find we have another new addition ...
WELCOME WAYNE. PM me with your mailing address if you would like to get one of the "packages" that you see in this thread.

Made my final payment end of last week ... panic was setting in!

I guess it wasn't so funny when I had initially said that we may take over Palos for our brunch :bounce:

Confused on some things I saw ... Just what time do we really dock in Key West? Is it noon or midnight????? If it's midnight, I may try and either stay up or more likely set the alarm to wake up to see us dock.

ALSO .... one time they had a bridge camera that was really nice, cause you could turn on the TV and see what was going on outside without cranking your butt out of bed LOL. Do they have it now?

Mike ... Wondering if you could silicone your "bug" to avoid the mess of the lovebugs? I'd be a little afraid of oil cause of it sitting in the sun and baking. HOW'S THE LEG? Hope you are staying off of it BUT knowing you, probably not!

Back to work ....

Hey Cathy,
We dock at noon in Key West and I am not staying off the leg as much as I need to. Just too many things to do. The last time we were on the magic captain Hans said that they were supposed to upgrade the electronics on the magic and then the bridge camera would be back on the tv. Think that they took it off to put on a shopping info channel or something.

Going to have to quit procrastinating and put our logo's on our shirts. Mike

Hey, Alaska--

Not sure if Bama is a TV watcher, and not sure how much you wanted to spend on the gift--however--I thought I'd tell you about the very best gift I EVER received. My sons gave us a TiVo for Christmas two years ago. Sorry if this sounds like a commercial, but I really, really love this thing. You may have heard of it, but it's basically a computer that makes watching TV a pleasure. I now never watch TV commercials. I just let TiVo record the program and then play it back and speed through the ads. On the rare occasions when I am watching a program while it is being broadcast, you can actually pause live TV to take a phone call, get a snack, etc. The other really great thing is that you can program TiVo to know your favorite shows or even your favorite actors. You can set a "season pass" for a show, and TiVo will record it whenever it is on, even if the schedule is changed. If you tell TiVo that you like a certain actor, it will record any shows that the actor happens to be on, even talk shows.

I know it sounds like I'm a TV nut, but I do enjoy watching TV--especially with a husband that travels a lot. I'm just selective about what I watch.

Anyway, this is just a suggestion. Keep in mind that jewelry is always appropriate!

Karen

Hey Karen we have a dishnetwork receiver that has the pvr system. It is a hard drive that records up to 35 hours of programing. You can record programs and play them back like a vcr and skip over the commercials. The great thing about it is that it continuously records an hours worth of programing that you are watching, so if you miss something someone said or did you can go back and hear or see it again.:D Mike

Hey, Mike--

Isn't it great? As we get older, we say to each other, "What'd he say?" Being able to play it back is one more super feature.

Hope you're feeling better and resting your leg. Watch some TV!
