09/28/2002 Cruise

Sorry Elaine, I mis-read the post. I thought it was William saying HIS father (your DH) was having the surgery!!!
My error:o I hope all goes well with you dad. Lots of Pixie dust his way!

Sorcerer - Always up for company ... You bring the red wine for the moose steaks (hunting season is OPEN), RAE is bringing the white wine for the fish. No folks, I do not hunt, where I grew up guns were used on people ..... Bullmoose have their fall racks on and the leaves have all turned golden now. Pleanty of other things to take pictures of as well. First sign of snow is on the mountains - Alaskans call it "termination dust". indicating the termination of summer. Will be here very soon, if not before I leave, definitely before I get back. All that fish & outdoors activity just does not make up for years of the "good life". Just glad that I am still able to "run" (I grace my slow speed by calling it that!) and that my blood pressure (124/90) & heart rate (70) are still somewhat reasonable for my age 52. Better shape than many my age but I am definitely slowing down BUT I will only go out kicking & screaming!!! OR hit by a truck from behind!!!

By the way, I have to ask: What about the eagles? Lots here!!!

All this talk of ROADKILL makes me miss my cat ~ Socrates!!!
Is everyone aware that cats have three names? One that is formal~Socrates. one that is informal~Roadkill (I found him as a kitten standing in the middle of a busy road), and one that is secret~???? They will no let you know that name....

So, let's see how many Disney Cat names we know: Simba...
William - Your turn ............

God's Blessings to one & all

Dennis

Oh, by the way, in Alaska, if you hit a Moose AND if you and your car are lucky enough to survive (Most cars do NOT and sometimes the people don't either) you do NOT automatically get the moose.
Technically, there is a "waiting list" for the roadkill. Troopers call it in and the "next person in line" has so long to get there before the person who hit the moose gets the right to salvage it - that is, of course, if that person has not been hauled off to the hospital. If neither the "next person in line" or the unfortunate person who killed the moose harvests it, it goes to the local soup kitchens to feed the homeless ~ Moose & caribou taste great

Similiar to burgoo, an "Alaskan BBQ" prohibts domestic meats.
Only permitted to have "wild" meats & fishes: moose, caribou, moutain goat & sheep, bear, salmon halibut etc etc. Great Fun!!!

God Bless America

Good morning all. Another day closer to the cruise and still a ton of things left to do.

Anyone heard how the lovebugs are this year? Boy they can sure make a mess of the paint job on your car. Mike

Elaine - you and your family are definitely in our prayers.

God bless and much love,
Rae

I'm just wondering how many of the guys will be wearing tuxes to the formal nights. I'm debating whether to wear my (one and only) suit or to rent a tux onboard. There has been some discussion about this earlier in the thread, but I don't have the energy to review 150 pages of posts. If I rent a tux, Diane has said she's buying a new dress, but don't let that influence your response. :)

Elaine .. Hope and prayers for your Dad!

For everyone today .... I find this appropriate for all of my fellow firefighters and rescue (Paid & Volunteer) ...

Firefighter's Prayer

When I am called to duty, GOD
wherever flames may rage,
Give me the strength to save some life,
whatever be it's age.
Help me to embrace a little child
before it is too late,
Or save an older person
from the horror of that fate.
Enable me to be alert
and hear the weakest shout,
And quickly and efficiently to put the fire out.
I want to find my calling and
give the best in me,
To guard every neighbor
and protect his property.
And if according to your will
I am to lose my life...
Please bless with your protective hand
the loved ones in my life!

GOD BLESS AMERICA AND AMERICANS ALL OVER THE WORLD!

Mike, Art and I among others are wearing suits. Do not let that fact keep you from buying the little lady a new dress;)

Elaine our thoughts and prayers are with your dad today.

Cathy prayers to our firefighters, police and emergency workers everywhere. Mike

Hello to all!!! Alabama is still here, hot and muggy. Went to work out at Curves this morning. They are playing patriotic music all day. Everyone remember to take a moment of silence for all the people before and after that give their time and lives to provide freedom for all of us.

MikeJ: my honey is wearing a suit (new) for the formal nights. I have seen him in a Tux twice in all the time I have known him. One when we got married and once on a Princess cruise. Told me that was enough for the monkey suits.....made him itch.;)

Elaine: your dad is in my prayers. I live 12 hours away from my parents, a short drive, which I make with some regularity. Much to my DH dismay. His usual comment is "Again!!" "You just went there!" They enjoy the visits, and I usually keep them to 4-5 days. About all I can stand and about all they can stand of me. Pixie dust blowing your way for your dad's speedy recovery.

Papa: Haven't seen the lovebugs yet. Will be looking for them. I have a friend in Floriday, will check with him and his wife.

Dennis: Just a few of the Disney Cats - Nala, ScarFace, Shani the Cheshire, Fat Cat, Oliver........there's more. Maybe William can come up with some more.:)

sorcerer1: Base tan??? How do you do that? I am planning on laying by the pool for a couple of days to get a tan before we leave for the cruise. Is that a base tan??? Or is a base tan one of those bottle things you smear on??? LOL:cool:

Have a great day to all, we be sailing soon!!!!:bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

I found this on the Dark Lady's Cats page:

Everybody wants to be a cat,
because a cat's the only cat who knows where it's at.
Everybody's pickin' up on that feline beat,
'cause everything else is obsolete.
Now a square with a horn,
can make you wish you weren't born,
ever'time he plays; and with a square in the act,
he can set music back to the caveman days.
I've heard some corny birds who tried to sing,
but a cat's the only cat who knows how to swing.
Who wants to dig a long-haired gig or stuff like that?
When everybody wants to be a cat.
A square with that horn,
makes you wish you weren't born,
ever'time he plays; and with a square in the act,
he's gonna set this music back to the Stone Age days.
Everybody wants to be a cat,
because a cat's the only cat who knows where it's at;
while playin' jazz you always has a Welcome mat,
'cause everybody digs a swingin' cat.
Everybody digs a swingin' cat.
:teeth:

Vonda...I put the logos on the front/center of the T-shirts

MikeJ...DH, DS are both wearing tux.

Elaine...let us know how dad is doing.

Cats...my all time fav Disney Cat...O'Malley (just my Irish showing!)
Has anyone read a book called "The Silent Meow, a handbook for kittens and strays"? A must read for cat owners/lovers!

Papa, no love bugs here in Charleston, I think the mosquitos ate them all!:p

Hi Elaine, here's a lot of prayer and pixie dust for your dad. Hope he wakes up feeling better than he has in a long time.

Dennis, watch what you say. You may have a whole cruise boat in your living room. Mike and I want to visit Alaska only I am too afraid to fly. Always have been. I know after 9/11 it is safer but I have never wanted to fly.

Mike is a ham radio operator and one year he was talking to someone in England. They asked if we would get them Grand Old Opry tickets. We live very near it and he agreed to get them. Imagine my surprise when I went to the Airport to give them the tickets and found out they had no hotel room here in Nashville and expected to spend their time in Nashville with us! We had 3 kids in a two bedroom house! I was in nursing school and Mike was working. Who was to entertain them and get them around Nashville? We only had an old Granada and a beatup old hooptymoblie that was hard to start. Needless to say they had a good story to tell back at home in England. We learned a good lesson. ;)

Mike DD1 and I went to visit one of my brothers in Alabama last fall and on the way home we nearly were killed by two deer crossing the highway. Some one upstairs was looking out for us cause we were in the VW. We could see the whites of their eyes before the one in the lead jumped back. They were so frightened I just can't understand why they jumped out like that.

I have watched the goings on in New York and had not cried until I saw a man in a wheel chair overcome with emotion started crying. It looked like a stranger stopped to help him. That made me cry. I was alright until that happened.

New daddies make me cry when they cry too. A new mama crying does not. Wonder why?

Gosh, I didn't mean to go so long, Take care everyone, Kathy

Mike will be wearing a suit, well actually a sport coat and pants. He refused to get a tux or even discuss a tux. (You can take the red neck out of Tennessee but you can't make him wear a tux):p

He says the same thing about me.:p

We are so looking forward to this trip.

Gotta go, take care, Kathy

Tonite's going to be a teary one for us ... hate to say it but cruise thoughts take a back burner today. Remembering how on our cruise last year the stand-up-comic was leaving to fly back home as his brother was among the missing, and it had been 10 days without word.

Looking forward to making new memories this year with my DIS friends.

Well, gang, I did it. I have hung up my "Homeschool" shingle for a new one - "Just plain Mom"!

I decided that both Michael and I need for him to be back in school. I want the best for him and I have truly done my best but it's not enough. We spoke to the principal today and Michael will be grade tested over the next few days. It's a very good school and we like the staff (Michael went to preschool and Kindergarten there).

When I mentioned that there will be several days (17 in total) that he will be gone on vacation, the principal didn't even flinch. He had me write the dates on an excused absence form and when he found out it was Disney cruises - he was pleased. Seems he is also a cruise fan! Small world - the librarian is too!

Just when we think we are alone in this big world, the Mouse comes through.

So now just call me "MOM"!

Hugs,
Rae

Hello to all our cruise family on this very sad day. Elaine and Family our prayers are especially with you and your Dad today. Dennis I have tried in vain for years to capture a bald eagle on film and have been very dissapointed. There are not that many here in Pa and where they are you can't get close enough to get a great shot. I really just want to watch them fly, a great picture would make it perfect Chrystina yes a base tan is the burn, beige, tan stage I go thru every year before I start turning tan and then browner and browner. I was pretty cool in work with the TV coverage on at break till the young girl read a letter to her Dad an engineer on the 61st floor who died on 9/11/01. She closed the letter by saying that she hoped "he didn't hurt too much" I lost it then tough day after that. I for one am doing the rented tux thing 1- for the space 2- never get dressed up that much anymore and Barbara only buys at 50% less or better so what the heck is a new dress. Well kids going to make a nice dinner for the family tonight and appreciate them even a little more tonight. Peace and See Ya! :earsgirl: :earsboy:

This has been such a rough day for me. I was barely able to get the joy together to read this board. Being a New Jersey girl (but not like the ones who hang out in the malls) who lives not far from NYC this loss hits close to home. My daughter's school had a tribute today. They had planted a tree which they dedicated today. All the kids came outside and did the Pledge of Allegiance and then sang songs. It saddens me that children that young have to know about the horrors in the world.

Rae -- welcome to "just plan mom-hood." It will take a while to get used to it, but eventually it will feel like normal.

Mike ~ Definitely a suit. Tux just isn't worth the expense to me.

Kathy ~ If you are in my living room, you will be in Alabama. Only have a small condo here in Anchorage but there is plenty of floor space. Besides, if you are visiting Alaska, what would you be doing indoors? Of course, it was VERY cool today ~ SNOW soon...
Don't like to fly? Did you know that one in every five people in Alaska have a pilot's license? Amazing when you think about it.
All those folks running around in those inky-dinky little planes!!!
I was afraid of them too ... so ... I went out and learned to fly!!!

George ~ Photos of bald eagles? Need to go to either Snoqualmie Reserve (Washington State) in the fall-winter. Saw 200-250 eagles in a single day. Had hoped to see my first in the wild, needless to say I was pleased that day. OR you go to Haines, Alaska where 10-12 per tree is not uncommon to see.
More than 500 in a day is not uncommon during the right season.
Pretty commonplace, especially in the salmon season. I have been farily lucky in the past, a biologist used to work for me. We would have him release "recovered" eagles (broken wings etc) in the parking lot so that the staff could see them up close & personal. Have also participated in grizzly bear releases, as I said, fortunate ... Personally, I like finding the owls. Got to see a snowy owl, hawk owl, and a great horned owl last summer. Course, I like spotting anything in the wild ~ makes my soul soar.

Elaine - Hope your Dad is doing well.

Dennis

Elaine....please let us know about your dad.

Bald Eagels...there was a pair near my home in Panama City Beach! In the evening you could see them fly over the lagoon. Very cool!

A very sad day yesterday:( It was good to see all the flags everywhere.

16 days until we sail
15 days until the Radisson
14 day until vacation starts
9 work days

Rae....best of luck to you and your son in joining the traditional schooling.
