The weather isn't near as bad this morning as I anticipated. The schools are open and no delays. Doesn't look like much of anything happened at all.

Haven't checked the weather today yet to see what the deal is. It won't be on before I leave either. Because we have satallite we don't get the local on the 8's through the Weather Channel, just some general junk.

Tina - so glad you made it.

The snow is hitting heavy here now. All those East of us stay safe as it is headed your way. Those of you in the South stay safe as well as it looks like there are still lots of nasty storms out there.

Amanda/Annette:

where are you staying this weekend?

I'll be there on Saturday before I leave for the ship on Sunday morning

Me too. The snow is really heavy right now. Decided to work from home today so to stay safe. We only have 5 days until we are wdw.

Amanda

Holy crap are we getting hammered!! They shut down the University early and it took me 40 minutes to get home. That is usually a 15-20 minute drive. 3 lanes, bumper to bumper with a max speed of 30.

Snow above slush above ice. Its messy and nasty.

Plus my driver side windshield wiper broke on the way to school this morning so I had to swap it out for the passenger side and that just flops in the breeze. But at least I could see out my section of the glass. Which means I have to get up super early to be ready to go buy one before I have to be back to class before 930 tomorrow. UGH!

We wont be there until Monday Morning. Annettes schedule wont let us come this weekend even though i want to. We had to stay at Riverside because all of the DVC Homes were full. We leave on Wednesday night. Another whirlwind couple of days.

Hope everyone is safe with this weather we were at 6inches about 1 hour ago and they say we could get up to a foot depending where you live in the county.

Amanda

Still snowing here as it has been all day. Tina you were right to get out of town :lmao: Not sure when I'll see Mark but I know he's going to be beat. He's been gone since early early this morning.

Stay safe everyone!

How about you guys Carol?

Hey Robin! Well tonite was a long tedious commute home. This morning we set off as the rain had turned to sleet and frozen ice balls, lol. But made it in to work fine. Tonite at 5pm we left work but did stop for a coffee at one point.

My BIL is stuck in North Carolina. He was there yesterday as a guest speaker at Duke University but his flight home (and all others to Chicago) were cancelled today. He and a colleague will be flying home tomorrow.

Just hoping tomorrow will be an easier drive.

Robin, I also have a friend in Fairview TN who had a tornado hit only a mile from his home last night. He and his family spent the night huddled up in a cement bunker on his property.

I have not caught up on all the threads on this post, but hoping you are ok there in TN! :)

Good morning everyone!

Snow finally finished up about 6:30 or so last night. I was so worried about Mark as I hadn't heard from him and he'd been at work since 4 am. ABout 6 pm the doorbell rang. It was a young man (8th grader) who asked if he could remove our snow as part of his service hours for CCD. Not sure why I even answered the door as I usually don't after dark. I said sure and about 5 minutes later he returns with a friend and an adult and two snow blowers. The two boys did the work while the adult supervised. They did a really nice job. They asked that I write a note for each saying how long they had worked. I didn't have a lot of money but tried to give them a tip and they didn't want it. I insisted and told them if nothing else they could use it to buy more gas for the snow blowers. Really nice young men. So Mark calls about an hour later and is on his way home. He was happy that he could get in the drive so easily. When he got home we went out for a few minutes to do a few things the boys didn't and then went over to our neighbors and worked on their drive-way. Paying it forward a bit. So all in all we survived the big snow. Hope all our friends in the path do the same.

Amanda & Annette enjoy your quick trip down to WDW. I'm sure Tina is enjoying the warmth down there.

Well, yesterday was fun, not! As Mary said I was at work from 4a till 7p doing more or less nothing but continuously plowing. It came hard and heavy up north of the city. Basically the overall coverage areas were especially north and northwest of the city which got hit hard, west(where Carol is) and especially south got spared the worst of the heavy snowfall. They more got the rain/sleet mix early in the day, but the snow was lake effect and really didn't reach out that far south in any heavy amounts. A lot of northern suburbs are now having to cut their salt use by mixing it with sand as they're running out. Wisconsin which got hit even harder has declared a state of emergency and closed major highways, and I-90 north of Rockford in Illinois is also closed.

The only snowfall totals I've been able to find online are here, scroll down, these are amateur observers, not official totals, but you'll get the idea. Morning news is mentioning that the suburbs up near the Wi border are reporting 12-14". Now this isn't light, fluffy skiing snow, this is wet, mushy, impossible to shovel slop.

Tina: let us know when you get to the terminal. Glad you got out of the bad weather safely. Have a wonderful day

You poor people. I hope you all get to stay home and warm today....watch a lot of day time TV.

Well I'm afraid I did a little too much of that yester day. :lmao:

Back to work for me. The roads weren't too bad, just bumpy where the plows didn't get down to the street itself and left some frozen ruts. It was hard because yesteday we got rain, then freezing rain, then the snow. One of the reasons Mark went in so early yesterday was not due to snow but to get some salt down to prevent a lot of ice build up.

We have friends coming into town from Florida this weekend and they are going to be in for a shock (though they are originally from Michigan so know what a Midwest winter is like).

Our snow ended about 1am and we were at 8 inches when the 10pm news hit. So I don't know how much more after that we got.

I went out and bought myself the new windshield wiper that broke last night and tried to put them on. Apparantly I am wiper challenged or they really need people from MENSA to install them because I got about 3 miles down the highway to school and sure enough, they came off. This was not good. So I got off and crept down the road as to minimize the splash on my windshield to get help. Well that didn't work so I said screw it and am taking the day off school.

I swear Murphy's Law has run rampant in this house the past 2 days. At least if there is anything that involves me.

Glad it's over but I hear we are in for more snow and artic cold this weekend. I am really envious of you people in the south right now. And glad you all are safe.

Mary -
That was nice of the boys to come by and help. Took some of the pressure of Mark which I am sure he enjoyed. Are you going to that Doorway to Dreams reception thing this weekend? I want to venture over but funds are low and I will now have a load of make up work to accomplish.

Take care everyone!

Mandy - totally understand about Murphy's law.

We aren't doing Doorway to Dreams this weekend. We did go to the Grand Opening and it was cool to see but we aren't planning on adding on. Plus we have friends coming in from FL. Their daughter is in a gymnastics meet down at Navy Pier. We're going to see her on Saturday and that leaves only Sunday to do our normal weekend stuff. Now if you guys were coming to town we'd have been happy to meet up, but to just go for the DVC presentation I think we'll skip it.

Holy Cow!!!!! I just found this thread (yeah, I am pretty clueless these days!:rotfl: ). We are booked too! Right now it is me, dh and our two boys, but my mom wants to keep the boys during that week, so we might just get a "grown-up" cruise this time!!!:cool1: :cool1: :cool1:
I haven't read through the entire thread, it's way long! But I will try to catch up! Love to see all the DIS folks going on the member cruise!
