09/21/08 SSMC08 S.S. Member Cruise 2008 - Part 3!

Hi Ellen - Frank & I are shooting for the Member Cruise in 2010 as well - there is a rumor that it might be a 7 day by then!:yay:

Maybe if we keep rumoring about it, the rumor will become true!

I had previously said I wasn't interested in coming back for another Member Cruise, but if it's a 7 day, I'd reconsider that position...

On this post or should we move on and start thinking of next year....

There is no right or wrong answer to this. Some threads stay active way after a cruise. I'm still posting on our May '06 thread because we became friends with many on that cruise and hope to sail with them again. I'll still post here as long as others are posting and I'm posting over on the '09 thread.

Post where you are most comfortable.

I asked them about that last year while on board - they said it had been discussed, but they weren't sure they had enough programming or whether DVC staff members would want to be gone that long, etc. I am guessing that, if enough people request it, they will consider it, unless they somehow already know that people either buy in the 1st four days or not at all. Seven days should allow for more selling time. They may need some ideas for what to do on the 3 additional days - more days at sea - more ports - more iterations of the guest legends / inspirations. Not so sure it would be just a standard Magic itinerary, but I would be interested in a 7 day, too. More time to dine at Palo's, socialize with other members, etc.

As for 2009, I started talking my brother into considering it. It aligns with his regularly scheduled Sep vacation, and I told him there were stone crab claws at brunch. Quite sure it was the crab claws, as he and his wife have never seriously considered any cruise before. And yet, I don't know that I can swing two cruises in one year.

I think everyone would like at least 1 more sea day. That would give more people a chance to have brunch at Palo, plus maybe they could do high tea?

Yes, how does Disney get stone crab claws in September? :confused3 I thought they were only available in the beginning of the year?

A few years back we went to a DVC mixer up in one of the suites and had a chance to chat with their head of marketing. Jim introduced her at the sailaway party this year, but I unfortunately forget her name. She specifically was discussing things for future cruises. That's where we picked up the info that the 4 day could only go as far as Key West or South Carolina and that their options for ports were kind of limited by that. One of the things we brought up then was why don't they go to a 7 day. The summary of the answer back then was that they go for the 4-day runs to get more new cruisers where a 7-day would put the first timers off price wise. We then suggested to her why they need a port at all and just go to a sea day. Dunno if that's where it came from, but they've been doing that the last three.

If the rumor Jim tossed out there is true, they're obviously reconsidering that thought, hopefully enough people have been telling them to go to 7 days. They don't even have to have blockbuster events every last day of the 7 as there will be ports on it.

DVC Chat is tonight if anyone wants to stop by.

Good morning everyone! It was nice to see the mini reunion we had in chat last night. I hear that chat crashed. :scared1: Must have been not long after I left.

Hope everyone has a great day!

I left not long after you, Mary, and it hadn't crashed yet. I found out I couldn't watch Dexter and chat at the same time so Dexter won.

Though I better jump on in and say hi to everybody. Nancy and I had a long weekend we left Friday about 10:30 in the morning and headed for up state Mass where we attended a wedding of the son of a couple we spend our two weeks in York Beach.
It was a very nice wedding it took place on MT Wachusett at the ski resort.
We ate to much but it was very nice.
Today im doing the Honey do List while Nancy is subbing.
Everybody have a great day

Ok, who saw the info about the 2010 cruises? I did. I would love to do a crossing cruise. That would be fab.

Still looking into that Oct 09 cruise. Thinking hard about it.

Annette :)

How could you miss it? :lmao:At one point we had the front page nearly full of 'moved' posts when we merged all the duplicates together.

However, seriously, we were holding out some hope they'd send the Wonder out to Alaska. Don't have much of an interest in the Med, and the Baltic runs are way too $$$. And while the Transatlantic is better priced, one thing you do need to consider, it's never been what you'd exactly call a smooth sail, and personally for me that ends up being too long away, two weeks off contiguously would be very rough to manage.

We looked but won't be cruising then.

The repos are too long for us to be away.

We have no interest in the Med what so ever.

Baltic cruises look interesting but not at those prices. :scared1:

So right now we have no plans for 2010. Might be Alaska on another line, might be Hawaii, might be nothing big depending on when the announcement of the 2010 Member cruise is and will it really be a 7 day.

As usual Mark and I are posting at the same time saying pretty much the same thing. :lmao:

Good to hear that you are 'thinking hard' about the B.O.B. cruise - I would be great if you guys came along! :yay:

So far it's Joanne, Roger, Dan, Nancy, Leisha, Tom & me, with the Tikis still sitting on the fence.

I'm hoping that we will be in for the Member Cruise in 2010, whether it's a 4 or a 7. (Hmmm, maybe since the Wonder will be doing some 5 dayers, maybe they would think about extending the Member Cruise by 1 day? :confused3 )

It's interesting that no one seems to be wowed by today's announcement...
