Well this turned out to be the worst Mother's Day ever for Deb.

It started off normal, we all were getting ready with showers and a bath. The kids were their normal stubborn selves about taking theirs but nothing out of the ordinary. Brunch was at 10. I was going with my sister and mother to one restaurant and Deb took the kids to another with her mom and siblings. Our son acted horrible at the restaurant, running around the place inside and out making Deb really angry!

While the little sh*t was running around misbehaving he lost his $300 iPod!

This then set the course of events that led to Deb not finishing her plans for her mom the rest of the day. It also led to me not being able to get the gift I wanted for Deb so she received nothing from me except a Happy Mother's Day wish and kiss in the morning before my sister picked me up. Deb had called me to tell me what was going on and I came home mad as h*ll. I yelled and screamed at him

so loud that the neighbors all knew what had happened! Now to add to the frustrations of a missing iPod, I noticed that his brand new 2 week old bike was missing also! The total for his lack of responsibility is now over $400!!!

At this point, Brandon's best friend walked over to the house and ask if Brandon could come and play. I said that Brandon was grounded and that he may not be alive much longer!

Now you might be wondering why I waited till the last second to get Deb's present, well here's why. I didn't really know what to give her. When I did decide, I had to ask my sister where she goes. Deb gets mannys and peddys done at a couple different locations and my sister has gone with her before so I needed her advice. The problem is that my sister NEVER answers her phone! It could be a week before I can get a hold of her!!! And it's not just me, she does this with everyone! So the next chance I had to get the info out of her was this morning at brunch but since Brandon was acting the way he was, I wasn't able to get the gift certificate for the place. On top of that, the kids, not once, wished her a Happy Mother's Day. Now I can understand my daughter needing to be told but there is no excuse for my son not saying it without me telling him!!! The whole day was a total disaster!!!

Things started to get a little better.

I my son to knock on doors to talk to the parents of the kids down the street to ask about his bike. He came back saying that it wasn't down there and nobody knew where it was. Now I was working around the house all day burning off steam while all this was going on. This was an all day ordeal! I took a break a break and decided to go ask myself. The very first person I talked to knew where his bike was. I went to the house where the guy was keeping it and picked it up. Brandon had left out on the sidewalk in front of his house next to the kids house that he plays with. I came home and yelled at him a little more and told him to go get it and I went back to work. So now the total loss is down to $300. While working I had an idea to make reward signs and take them to restaurant. They had no problem with us hanging them on the doors so that everyone could see them when they walked in the door.

The finale!

While out, I stopped at CVS and got a card for Brandon to give to Deb. It said something along the lines of "Being a mother gets easier with time...(open the card) and wine... lots and lots of wine!!!" and I had him write an apology in it for ruining her Mother's Day. I thought that given the circumstances it would be about the best I could do to break the tension and move on to having a "better" day. I also told him in the car that I was still very very mad at him (he then said that he was really mad at himself too) but that I Love Him always no matter what happens in life. When we got home, he gave the card to Deb, but not before he put a $10 bill in it . Deb read it, smiled and gave him a hug.

While making dinner I remembered that Brandon put an app on his iPod that basically turned it into a phone as long as it was connected to the internet, so I sent a text to it that read "$50 reward to return this iPod" and I put my cell #. Some time had passed and a I got a text saying that he had found it at the restaurant. I responded as to when and where we could meet up. Turns out he lives about 6 blocks away, I shot down there with Brandon, Brandon gave the guy $50 of his own $$$ and got it back! Basically Brandon paid him $50 dollars not to steal it but he's very happy that he got it back! Hopefully this will teach him a lesson in personal responsibility.

Deb, for what it's worth, Brandon said in the car that he's gonna make next years Mother's Day the best one ever.
