Hi All!

I've been lurking and haven't gotten around to reading all of the posts. I wanted to read everything before I joined in but it seems it's gonna take me a long time to read EVERYTHING. I'm just going to start posting. We are booked for the SSMC09!!! We are from the suburbs of Chicago and this is our first cruise!! The kids are giddy with anticipation. DH doesn't think it will be fun but his friends told him they liked to cruise so he decided we could try Disney. (I've been harrassing him to take a cruise since we got married but it took his friends to push him over the hump.) Oh well, I'm not going to complain!! I'm so excited and I don't know what to expect. I want to be involved in everything! I want DH to have so much fun he'll want to go again and again.

Can anyone give us some advice on what to expect? Also, is there some "must do" or something we should stay away from? I'm sure some of my questions can be answered in earlier posts but it's going to take me a long time to get through them all.

Thanks!!!
Susie

Glad you decided to join us. This is our first Members cruise but are 5th Disney cruise. We love DCL (I should say anything Disney) It will also be our fist cruise without are DS23. He is done with college and now working. We live in IL to. We are around Schaumburg. Are you going to the event are Door Way to Dreams this month?

As Mary said there is allot of info on the first page first post. If you don’t find what you are looking for ask away. I am sure someone here could answer it.

Drop in when ever you get a chance.

Mary & Mark - Good thoughts are being sent your way. Best of luck with the surgery. pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust: for you.

Welcome Suzi!!!
Nice to have you. Your kids will LOVE the cruise. Disney is the best. Have you ever seen the show on the travel channel about the Disney Cruise Line? It is very informative. I also read and read on this board from all of the Disney cruisers and got so many tips that I felt I knew the ship pretty well on my first Disney cruise. It is very different from others ships...so customer friendly...

Wow! What a great welcome!! Thanks everyone!!

Mary, I'm not quite sure what's going on, but I'm sending prayers your way too. Surgery is not fun and hopefully you'll be back on your feet soon.

Flo, I just got my invitation and I'm trying to see if there is any room for Thurs. eve at Doorway to Dreams! My girls have a dance convention that whole weekend and I'm not sure if we'll have any other time to go. I want to go see the new rooms and I love going to the events. They are so much fun but it does make me homesick for Disney! I'm going to check out the first page in detail and get involved! I'm so excited!!!

Susan, I have seen many Disney shows on the Travel Channel! In fact, we record them on DVR and the kids and I rewatch them when we want to smile. :) We're all so excited! I'm trying to book a summer vacation too. We always take a two week summer trip. DH HATES to fly so we drive and I'm not driving 2 days down and turning around in 7 days just to drive 2 days home. I need to get the trip worked out so we can countdown that one too. So much to organize, so little time.

Susie,

Are you driving down for the SSMC09? We were thinking of it but I think we may fly. I am with you I do not like that long of a drive. St Louis is far enough for me. We are going down on Saturday, bu still not sure were we are going to stay.

I to (I am a kid at heart) recod the showes. I don't have little ones be like to watch them. It give me my Disney Fix. That is why I like to go to the Door way to Dreams to. Also, since Woodfield is only about 15 minutes away it is not a long trip for us.

How old are your little ones?

Have a good day.

Yep, we're driving. I need to find a place to stay too. We plan on spending Saturday night as close to the ship as possible. We'll probably start out Fri after work and continue on to Sat eve and sleep right there (hopfully) and then get up shower and off to the ship!!!

My kids are DD 9, DS 11, DD13. I've ruined them all with my Disney fixation! We'll sit and watch the same shows over and over, we just love to see the parks, hotels, etc. They love going to Doorway to Dreams! I have to drag my DH but he goes along because I want him to. ::yes:: I love getting the little trinkets from there (I love the Doorway mouse ears!), DH likes the food. Maybe he doesn't like to go because he knows the last time we went, we bought more points! I think he's gun-shy.

Susie,

They will love the SSMC09 cruise. I am told there are less kids so the clubs won't be as crowded.
I would live to add on when we go on the 21st but I am not working. But I am hoping that my DS will buy in. I have him addicted. He is 23 and still wants to go. This cruise will be the first time we have done any vacation with out him. It will be interesting.
The radisson at port has a shuttle service to the ship. I tried to get a group rate but no. You could park your car there and take the shutte of you want to. Check out the ling below. It is on the discussion part ofthe forum. A good friend and a person that would help any one put this together. It has alot of info. Hotels, cars, food, etc.

Welcome Susie!

Our kids are right around the same age. My son Cory will have just turned 13 and my daughter Courtney is 11. They love, love, love the Disney cruises! I'm sure they'll be happy to show your kiddos around. They've made some great friends on the ship too. Cory still talks with a friend he met from NC and Courtney talks with a friend she met from CA.

They are also in love with all things Disney. We'll be at the Doorway to Dreams event either Saturday or Sunday....not sure which yet.

We'll also be staying at the Radisson at the Port before the cruise. They have a great pool there and the kids like meeting others who will also be on the ship. Last year they both met kids who were going on the DCL cruise before we even got to the terminal!

You guys are gonna have a great time!

Good morning everyone! I'm up and dressed and will be heading out to the hospital soon. Mark is going to call Karen (ohiominnie) once I'm out of surgery and she'll update here when she gets a chance (it is a busy day for her as well).

Thank you all for all the kind thoughts and prayers. They are greatly appreciated. I'm a firm believer in prayers and I'm blessed to have so many of you thinking about me.

Mary, I'm praying that everything goes as well as possible!

May the doctors have wisdom and guidance to make the right decisions,
may your husband have comfort throughout the day,
and may you have peace and be surrounded with love through all of this!

(A little faith, trust, and pixiedust can't hurt either! pixiedust: )

Oh, yea, I tape all of those shows too on my DVR and I get my fix that way. When my DGD comes over..she is 4, she wants to watch disney world...I have those recorded and some of the dvd's I bought at WDW of the parks...she loves them. We go 4 times a year, sometimes 5. We get 5 weeks vacation and we need it! I bought into DVC so that my grandchildren seen below will all know the joys of Grandma and Grandpa watching them have fun...
We used to drive when our children were young. 24 hours down, 24 hours back if you obey to speed limits and stop to eat and potty...not my idea of fun. So we fly now...and out of Phila or Harrisburg it is only $59 to $79 on Air Tran or Southwest one way. Gotta love that, huh?

I am really excited about the salute to the military WDW has again this year. DH retired from the Air Force and so he gets a free 5 day pass and we get them for $99. Usually we have to buy a new AP, but at this price, I will go with the freebie and the discounted ticket. We are going in May, and I think I may have to have a scooter for my knees...I don't know if they will be up to long days on them yet. We also have a trip for December..love Dec in Disney...but this cruise has been my dream and I am so happy to be going even if all I could get was an inside room...

Flo, sent you an email.

Thinking of Mary right now...hope she is doing well.

SUsan

Susan,

Got your e mail all taken care of.

I like the DIS so much because we are all love Disney and no one here thinks you are nuts for that. ;)

Have a good day.

Oh good! Maybe this time I'll have someone to go to the character breakfast with!

Both my kids didn't want to go last time! They are all about the character breakfasts in WDW, but for some reason on the ship they had little interest. I think they were feeling older on the ship with all the cool activities, but in WDW they revert back to 5 year olds.

So if they ditch me this time I'm gonna have to go with one of you bigger "kids"!

When people give me that funny look when I tell them we have a Disney Vacation Club membership, I just say that DH and I are really large 8-year-olds.

Thats a deal!

What Flo said!

We have done just the opposite for these two cruises, I will probably wish we had done it the other way. I just figured that on the longer cruise that I would try to spend as little time as possible in the room. On the MC we got the veranda for adding on last year, other than that the only time we were in our cabin last year was to sleep or shower and change clothes so I would not have chosen a veranda.
It will be nice to get to know people before we do the long cruise!

It's so great to have the DIS, which enables us to connect w/some great people, and I love that we will already know some folks before the bigger trip.

AH, my DGD turned 4 on 1/11. Aren't they just the BEST little angels in the world? Makayla is my sweetie pie...the boys want to tackle me and don't take too well to hugs..a kiss is ok, but Makayla always says, "Can I snuggle with you?" Gotta love it.
Susan

That is soooo sweet, Susan. My older DGD6 isn't much of a snuggler, but I'm holding out hope for my little one of 8 mos.

Welcome to the group! Every day aboard the ship you will receive a Navigator, which contains a schedule of events for the next day. The problem won't be what to do; it'll be picking the best one for you. The one thing that I'm betting you will all love is Castaway Cay. :beach: It's a little piece of paradise (sigh). As for what to avoid? Easy...getting sunburned. Done that, don't want to do it again! Oh, if you want an adult date night, try to book Palo for dinner. It's great.
