09/13/09 SSMC09 S.S. Member Cruise 2009 - Part 4!

Wanted to say thanks again to everyone for your support of me during the 3Day Walk! Even with the weather - and this was the first time that the event ever had to cancel two days - it was a fantastic experience. but here is the best news of all - with over 4000 walkers signed up - the most I have known to walk in Philly - 3700 showed up in the rain on Sunday. And we raised just short of -
:cheer2::cheer2: $8 Million!! :cheer2::cheer2:

That is truly awesome,You are doing a GREAT thing Sue!!

Good Morning Deck 9 Sunrise Members, and all fellow cruisers

Dave - you echo my feelings about Chicago. I've lived here all my life and used to work downtown but the novelty has really worn off. We rarely go downtown and when we do we try and take the train.

I would go to Boston about once a year from '98 until about '01 as I had a client there. Didn't see much of the city then just a lot of running through Logan airport! :lmao:

What wonderful news Sue! I'm so proud of you and all your fellow walkers!

If you ever want to head out for a true visit, let us know!!

Morning All!

Dave and Mary - I agree with both of you. I rarely go into the city any more. I loved it when I worked down there but don't want to deal with the hussle and bussle any more. :)

Sue - You did allot this past weekend any one would be tired.;)

Lisa - Good luck on your test.;)

Flo-It is only fun now when you are showing it off to a visitor, I love to see the different reactions to various sights. There is SO MUCH history here, I just don't like to head in without a purpose.

WAY TO GO SUE!!!!!!! That is just awesome.

Good Morning! :wave2:

One more nice day here then the rains are to set in again. Bummer.

Well, we don't have a big city around here like so many of you. The closest thing we have is Des Moines, our state capital, and it ain't that big. We are an hour north and we go there all the time to go shopping. But, nothing like Chicago or Boston. I have visited Chicago before but never been out East. Hope to get there one day.

Lisa - good luck with the classes. Sounds like you could really used the WBTA trip. Good luck with your decision on which trip to take. You really can't go wrong with any of them. IMHO. ;)

Mary - have you had the port taken out yet? And are you feeling good? I sure hope so.

Flo - any luck with the job search?

Have a great day everyone! :flower3:

Chris, anytime you guys want to come East, let us know. We can do Philadelphia, New York and DC!!! ;)

If you ever want to head out for a true visit, let us know!!

Just may take you up on that some day. Actually my first ever vacation by myself was to Boston. I was 19 I think and my brother had to go on business. So I flew out with him, got a room in the same hotel (at the company rate) and explored the city while he was in meetings all day. We stayed outside the city proper and I had to take the bus in. It was my first taste of a city other than Chicago and it was fun. Walked the Freedom Trail and saw my first ever Brookstone while in Boston.

Good Morning! :wave2:

Mary - have you had the port taken out yet? And are you feeling good? I sure hope so.

Thanks for asking Chris. The port comes out on Monday! It is out patient in the afternoon and the doctor says it is simple but I'm still just a little worried. I have taken Tuesday as a vacation day (I'm out of sick days) to kind of rest up and not have to get dressed up for work etc.

Sue & Chris, if you ever want to visit Boston, you WILL have a place to stay!!

Thanks Dave! Just may take you up on that! I've always wanted to see Boston. Middle son Tom's good friend from college lives in MA apparently not far from Boston and loves the Red Sox and I refer to him as my "Boston Son". So he always says come visit. And I really want to do the 3Day Walk up there -if I could talk my team into it! Do you know anything about where the route for that may have been?

Dave, I may have just answered my own question! Now does any of this sound familiar or close to you?

It all began on a rainy Friday morning at Farm Pond, where participants braved the wet and the mud and faced the first day with excitement and smiles. The 19.7-mile route featured many memorable highlights, including some incredible support at Bertucci's in Wellesley. After a long, wet day of walking, we settled in to camp.

Saturday's 22-mile day also featured some great support along the route, including the Granite Angels at the top of Belmont Hill, the cheer-leaders at Arlington High School and numerous
Boston

cheering stations at Horn Pond, Heritage Farm and the YMCA in Woburn. We were cheered on by the Minute Men in Lexington, the Pink Posse and the Fallen Angels. Thanks also to the Candy Castle in Lexington and Shaw's Supermarket.

Sunday's 16.5-mile route wound through Cambridge, including a picturesque walk through Harvard Square. Along the way, we enjoyed free donuts at Sofra and support at the Mt. Auburn Star Market. On the way into Boston, we walked through Boston Common and the public garden, through Downtown Crossing and along the waterfront and past JFK Library. It all ended with a celebratory Closing Ceremony at the University of Massachusetts.

Sue-Farm Pond in Framingham is about 3 miles from where I work!! Then they headed East towards Boston, snakeing up and down throuigh the different towns.

First off, Sue, you so totally rock! Congrats on your walk.

Hi!!!

It has been raining here for days also.

I was supposed to have stand duty at the baseball field today for a girls softball tournament but the tournament was cancelled and is not being rescheduled. Hate to say it but

I came in the office around 1:45 today to work on my paper. I am still here now and I have 8 pages of typed up notes. I needed a break from all the exciting information on computer security. Is there a smiley with it's eyes crossed? That would be me right now.

Between this class and the cyber security event I went to the other night I have learned that we as a group have not been very good about keeping our personally identifiable information (PII) secure. My anxiety level went up a few notches with all the stuff I have been learning. Yikes!

FYI.....Posting birth date information online is a No No ! That is one of the top 3 things you do not want to disclose.

Just so you all know for future reference.

As for future vacation plans, I am so undecided. :confused3

I have to say that I did more research last night on the WBTA and the Alaska cruises and the WBTA is definitely a better value. Joanne, I recall you mentioning that recently. I agree.

Anyone have any thoughts on whether the Alaska cruises will be become a regular event? Not just a 2011 cruise. I have always wanted to do an Alaskan cruise but I do not think I can manage it for 2011. Okay, so I know it is a long ways off but I really wanted to bring the kids on that trip and I doubt I could manage it right now.

If anyone is wondering, yes, I am like this in most things. I analyze everything to death. :lmao: Plan, Plan, Plan! Ask lots of questions! Ugh.

Okay, I better not spend too much time on here while at work.

Have a great night!!
Lisa

Lisa, with all you do, you truly deserve some time to yourself, and if you don't do it for you, who will?? Good luck on your test.

Mary, I believe all will go well on Monday and a little rest on Tuesday sounds like a great idea.

Sue, did you ever get your bag back?

Mary - Good luck Monday.:wizard:

Chris - No nothing yet on the job. I have been to Des Moins on busness years ago. Are corporate office was in the middle of a corn field. I loved it. BUt I am sure now it has been built up. I did like it out there. I also liked the airport.

Dave - You are right it is great to take people to see your home town.:)

One of these days i will make to all the places I want to go becides doing Disney.:)

:surfweb:Good Morning Deck 9 Sunrise Members, and all fellow cruisers :surfweb:

Lisa-Boston is a beautiful and FUN city to visit. When i first moved here in '83 I would go in to the city on a regular basis. Now, as always, I rarely head into the city, the novelty has worn off and traffic is a pain! How old is your DD that is into the "ducklings"? I know my youngest, DD8, asks about a trip in, as her sister has done the same thing.

Have a great day everyone! :)

Dave - DD will be 6 in December.

Mary that had to be just a few years ago...right??? :thumbsup2

Chris - Thanks!!! As for the WBTA, I discussed taking a long vacation next year with my boss yesterday and he has no problems with me taking a little over 2 weeks off at one time. So, that is just one step closer to making a decision.:cool1:

Mary - have you had the port taken out yet? And are you feeling good? I sure hope so.

Flo - any luck with the job search?

Have a great day everyone! :flower3:

Good Morning. I have an early start today. Paperwork is piling up on my desk so I need to get to the office early and doing some typing & filing before my meeting.

Go Phillies! If only the Eagles were doing the same.

Marsha - Let's not bring up the Eagles right now. It might be an omen for our Phillies. Stay focused on the Phillies!!
Have a good day.

Let's Go Phillies!

Yes, Lisa, I am soooo excited!! And old age must be setting in fast - or I can blame it on the Walk - but would you believe I nodded off during the top of the ninth!!!! I woke up this morning and - YES - they WON!! Sometimes with Lidge these days, you close your eyes and just hold your breath!! :lmao:

You had to have seen the replay of JRolls hit and the runs coming in. That is all we saw this morning on the TV. I think my heart was still pounding an hour later. EXCITING!! My nephew and I were texting back and forth at the end. Okay, I was working on my paper and he was out at a bar. And, my parents are at WDW and they could not see the game. WDW does not get TBS. :confused3 He had to see the replays on ESPN. How could you not have the National League Championship game available to your guests??? I am not quite sure.

:) Good Morning Deck 9 Sunrisers and All!! :)

Sue. That is really great! Congratulations for being a part of something so incredibly important. Everyone can make a difference can't they. If only more people in this world were so giving of themselves. It is obvious to me, and I am sure to everyone else out here, what a special person you truly are. You are so active in so many things that really matter!!! That is the key. The things that really matter!!! :grouphug:

That's so cool - maybe I will do Boston next year and add a visit with you guys to it. John and Dustin could bunk at your house!!! :thumbsup2
