09/13/09 SSMC09 S.S. Member Cruise 2009 - Part 4!

For those of you planning the Alaskan Cruise...you must book the Helicopter in Juneau Alaska, it lands on the Mendinal Glaiser ( I know I spelled that wrong) you land on it and walk around on the ice. Its wonderful I left my handprints on the seat of the helicopter.:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl:

So Dh and I were talking we were thinking this cruise was for 2010, but we might plan for 2011, so far 7/12 looks good for us. we won't be using points, so we might go ahead and lock in the date and hope and pray, and take the insurance just in case. I can not ever take before the 7th of the month due to my job.

I was hoping to link more, but the web host site is really slow this time of night - and I just got home from a Sabres game. See you tomorrow.

Joanne-which one are you doing? hint hint We would love for you and Wayne to join us!!

We haven't decided yet, but I'd say 7/5 or 7/12 are the top candidates, just because we'd love to see all you guys again.

So Joanne, we want to know ...which cruise are you taking, maybe we can book later and stalk you somemore.:banana:I am keeping my hopes up.:rotfl2:

7/12 looks good right now for us, but we're not sure yet. Since we're only Silver CC members, we have to wait 'til 9/28 to book.

Alaska Cruise July 12, 2011

I have been wanting to go on an Alaskan cruise for so long now. I will be done my masters by then so maybe, just maybe.

Can someone explain to me what you are referring to when you say you booked a dummy date on the cruise? What is the advantage of doing that? What $$ is needed to do it? What restrictions are there...if any??

Is this a cruise where you would all be bringing your children? I think I saw Dave and Chris mentioned the kids.

As much as I would love to have an adult trip I can not imagine going to Alaska with out them....but it is a little less than two years away. I may change my mind. :rotfl2:

Can you find the points online for this cruise or are you just calling and getting the details?

Details...I need details!! I just have so much to learn.

Lisa

Hey! Does anyone remember where exactly the laundry room is on deck 6? Which staterooms are right across from it?

I believe all of the laundry rooms were across from room 590- so on the 6th level it would be 6590.

 My son went the ENTIRE day today in big boy underwear!! no diapers! I am SOOOO excited!!

Hopefully, we will be as successful tomorrow!!

:surfweb:Good Morning All!!

LOL Lurk not Stalk:rotfl2:

Oh, Tanya, please say you didn't? :scared1: ?

But I can't blame you. When we are at Disney and have a room with washer/dryer I do at least 2 loads a day. That way we don't have to pack so many clothes! :rotfl2:

She did Chris :confused3

Dianne- That would be great, how far out can yopu cancel if things don't work out?

Lisa- Because when we were on the cruise you couldn't book the Alaskan Cruise, they would let you book a dummy date which allows you to take advantage of the onboard credits and less of a deposit(which you would pay to hold the date). Then when booking opened for the cruise you could swap the date to a date of the Alaskan. You could only do this if you were paying 100% in cash. If you are using any points you would have to wait and book thru MS.

I know Tanya and I are bring our kids and Chris and Bob as well. As for points I have been calling MS and asking them tons of questions and different room points.

Hope you can join us!

:cool1::yay: Thats a big step!!

We'd love to sail with everyone again but 7/12 just doesn't work for us for a number of reasons. Just got a call from our TA today and added on the travel insurance. After this year you just never know what can happen.

Here's hoping that everyone who is looking for work finds it soon. :grouphug:

I understand Mary, we looked into the 7/5 cruise but Tanya being an accountant, that is not a good date with month end/year end.

I second your sentiments on the job hunts!!

Good morning everyone! Wonder if anyone is sitting at our table up on deck 9 and enjoying the great conversations we did. :)

Dianne - as Dave said booking a dummy date on the cruise is a common practice for those wanting to have onboard credits but their cruise date isn't available yet. We did it in 2008 hoping that 2010 would hold an Alaskan cruise. That didn't happen so we moved it to the 5 day cruise we are taking next year. This year we did a dummy booking for 12/5/10 and our TA used the deposit for that and booked our Alaskan Cruise. We were lucky that the 1/2 price deposit promotion was still going on so our deposits were $300 per person. When I went to the desk the first thing I told her was that we wanted to book a dummy date and she took care of it. For dummy dates you usually get a gty cabin and in our case second seating. Yet when we went to book the real cruise we wanted we let our TA know exactly what we wanted and they took care of it. Using the TA was a true blessing with Monday being my first day back at work and then having a dr. appointment. By the time I got back to the office my new booking was already showing up on the DCL site and then I got an e-mail from the TA telling me the final price. Painless. One last thing as long as you don't have a suite booked you can get a full refund up to 105 days out I think. You can also move your cruise to another one but you'll pay the going price for that new cruise. Hope this helps.

Totally understand Dave. The funny thing is the cruise DCL booked for us was the 7/12. Don't worry we'll take good care of the ship for all of you!

We also booked a dummy cruise..have to get hold of the TA to make the changes. I will also be paying cash since I hardly have any points and I am saving them for a family reunion in a couple of years, I need to buy more but just can't swing it.

DH moved up on the job list by two while we were away he is now # 39 on the union list. This is the longest he has ever been out.

I work in an accounting dept also...but I am not a real accountant. Just do the work. I pretend:rotfl2::rotfl2:

We did this during our Alaska Cruise in 2007 on Princess. The one we did also included dog sledding on the Mendenhall Glacier.

Congrats...:wizard::wizard:

Good Morning All!

No one could possibly enjoy the same great times we had on Deck 9, Mary! They were priceless!! :thumbsup2

Wish we had been able to book a dummy date when we were on the cruise but the little thing called $$$ got in the way! Still working on whether we will be able to join you guys but I sincerely hope so and will continue to plan on it!

Got all of the supplies for the big hoagie sale this Saturday for the troop. Even got all of the lunchmeat sliced yesterday. That can really build up your arm muscles! Friday we will pick up the rolls and slice them. Hoagie construction starts at 5 am!

Today is a "mom" day. So far, it seems pretty nice outside, although it has been really humid the last few days. They say that will break today later.

Dave - what's for dinner tonight? :rotfl2:
