Chris, so sorry to hear about Grandpa..I know that must have been hard this morning.

Chris,
I'm so sorry to hear about your grandpa. Grandparents are so precious and you're right that you were lucky to have him so long. All of mine are gone now, but many many fond memories remain. May those memories bring you much comfort. :)

Chris - so sorry to hear about your Grandpa. I hope that many years of happy memories will help you get through the next couple of days, weeks and months as you come across the firsts without him (first Christmas, first birthday, etc.). I'm so glad that you have been able to be there for your Mom.

Chris, sorry about your grandpa. Thoughts and prayers with you and your family.:grouphug:

Chris, condolences to you and your family. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Thank you all so much. Your thoughts and prayers are so very much appreciated. :sad1:

DS is doing much better today. Thank you for all the well wishes.

Thank you for all the congrats.

Hi Marsha....I am very happy to hear that your DS is doing better today.

Not to be a downer, but at 3:30 this morning my aunt called to let me know that my Grandpa passed away. She couldn't get a hold of my mom and asked if I would go get her. Her and dad live right in front of us and they don't have a real phone only a cell phone and she couldn't get her. So I had to go deliver the news to mom. Not fun. So, I have been up since then. Grandpa was 88 years old, so I feel really lucky to be 42 and still have one set of grandparents left, Grandma is still living by isn't well either. He lived a very full and, what I believe, was a very rewarding life. He will be deeply missed by all of us. They had 5 kids, 13 grandkids, and 17 great grandkids. :sad1:
Hi Chris....so sorry to hear about your grandfather. My deepest sympathy to you and your family. Please take care.

party:party:party:party:party:

This message is what makes work manageable.I just cannot wait.

Question for everyone -

has anyone been to the new restaurant in the Contempary called the Wave?

It will be. My partners birthday is just after the member cruise and we are staying concierge level at AKV then. We will be doing the sunset safari the day of.

I am so envious...would love a MK view at BLT...and concierge at AKV is WONDERFUL...did the early am safari and LOVED it...got the best pictures of every species of animal there..lions are beautiful...let us know how the sunset safari is!

I hope everyone is having a good weekend. We were supposed to be attending a birthday party today but we couldn't. DS woke up this morning coughing and then started wheezing and having trouble breathing. So, we went to urgent care and they gave him a nebulizer treatment and prescribed him some steriod meds and abuterol (sp?). They also allowed us to take the nebulizer home until Monday when we have to see his pediatrician. So, we willbe home for the rest of the weekend.

Poor little guy...my grandson, seen below, Nicholas was adopted from Russia and he was so sick with asthma and bronchial problems...nebulizer treatments three, sometimes 4 times a day...He is now 5 and off all daily medications...it is a miracle. It is frightening when a child can't breathe.\
Hope he is better.

Have not been on computer most of weekend, I have a lot of catching up to do!!! Spent past 3 hours on phone with comcast and then McAfee...somehow the firewall wouldn't allow me to log onto any secure site...not fun, but it is fixed now!

I am having the same problem

Maybe you are having the same problem I was having...I would try to access my email and the home page would just pop up again....tried to order something from amazon.com and nothing would go into my cart...it took a long time on the phone, but now everything is working...knock on wood!

Hiya!

My turn for a question:

How do you view your DVC?

For me it's two things.

First, it's a prepaid vacation. The largest expense for the two of us and we don't have to worry about it, just go. I like to keep things as simple as possible and it doesn't get simpler than that.

Second, is something that was the foundation of their sales pitch back then. You're buying points that will get you accommodations that are superior to the deluxe resorts at a price per point below them.
That, folks, is our deal.

I wanted to leave something for my grandchildren to remember...I loved my grandparents..they used to take us to every new Disney movie, to the circus, to the ice capades, everything that my parents could never afford to do. So, I LOVE WDW and I wanted to give my children and grandchildren a vacation in WDW, something that they will always remember as time with grandma and grandpa.

When I went to CBR the first year it opened, I paid $39 a night...and look at the price now. We go to WDW 4 to 5 weeks a year, and when I think of the money I spent, it only made sense to buy DVC...wish I had done it sooner.

We have a prepaid vacation in a deluxe resort...

I get to stay at the new DL villas in Oct and I am so excited...my first trip to DL...wouldn't have been able to afford to stay in this beautiful hotel on points, but the villas are less points, and we have a one bedroom villa...can't wait!

I have never regretted my DVC membership...not once. Even when those dues come out of my bank account every month, it is a lot, but I don't regret it...

Susan

Joanne,

I did not even realize that my name was not there. It is on the one that goes to disney. I would not think of eating with any one other then DIS.

take care

:surfweb:

So, Flo, are you early or late? I hope I can switch to early...we are getting more and more like Sr citizens...eating earlier and earlier...takes long for that food to digest! Who said these were the golden years? They are more like the moldy years! Nothing works anymore!

That is great ! Only nine weeks.

Looking forward to meeting up with you folks. Really looking forward to the Cruise and Vacation.

I know its been a rough year for several of you reading the posts. It has been rough for my wife and I as well.

So I think we all need a little R & R and escape from the reality of this 'real' world . And to be immersed in 'Disney World' and Castaway Cay.

Again see ya real soon !

Thanks for the Pirates !

Oh, me too....can't wait to meet everyone, can't wait to get away, can't wait for CC, can't wait to see who our honored guests will be....you know, I had a rough year too...but here is what happened the past 3 weeks:

My girlfriend from HS's husband took his life at the age of 53...
Got in touch with another girlfriend who lives only a mile away...and her mother fell and broke her hip in the winter, she took her to the ER, the nursing home forgot to send her hearing aids and glasses with her, so my friend left just to get the hearing aids so that she could communicate. She was gone an hour..and as she came into the ER, a nurse stopped her and told her that her mom had died...WHAT??? She must have had a pulmonary embolus. Her mom was in her 80's and had an advanced directive...DNR...and this cardiologist worked on her for 45 minutes..WHAT??? and my friend told him that it was a good thing for him that he couldn't revive her...then this same girl (woman) fell down the steps of the courthouse in Jan and fell on her face...she fractured the orbital area (eye) and she had outpatient surgery...as she was coming out of the anesthesia, her face began to swell like a prize fighter, and she was blind in one eye...she had a clot behind her eye..and compartmental syndrome..they had to cut her face open to drain the blood...she ended up at the Hershey Medical Center with a plate in her head and scars all over her face....and she had just come back the other day from seeing her 62 year old brother who never went to the doctor...his PSA was 500 and he had such advance prostate cancer...it was already in the bones and now in the brain...he was diagnosed 4 weeks ago and only has 7 to 10 days to live...SO, when I look back on my life, I am very blessed. I felt SO guilty that I wasn't there for her. It just shows you that someone very close could be going through such turmoil and you don't have any idea....

Susan

Congrats to Marsha on the :bride::bride:

Congrats to Bruce on the pirate:pirate:

Congrats from me tooooo, :cool1:

Hope everyone had a good day. DH and I went to the Muny last night and saw the musical Meet Me in St. Louis, it was very good.

As most of you know the all Star game is being held in St. Louis,,, The hotels are packed and so are the resturants. I heard on Friday, there was an hour and a half wait to play any games at Fan Fest.

We are staying clear of downtown until it is over, would have loved to go except, DH is not yet walking that well yet. And that much standing around I am sure would hurt.

My DS girlfriend is working the whole event as a medic. I know on Friday she got to sit in the dugout for some type of event. I am so jealous she gets paid to attend most of the events and gets to watch the game for free.:yay:

I bought a new laptop and I am in the process of getting it the way I like it.
My old one is getting slower and is showing its age.

Diane, I was hoping to get to St. Louis in June...our nursing convention was there....but I couldn't go. Never been there..

Your DS's GF is so lucky! What a job, huh?
Congrats on new laptop...I hope mine doesn't wear out...it took me forever to get used to it and now I love it...have fun!
Susan

Thank you Mary for making my day. We are in the single digits now. :woohoo::yay::banana::dance3: I can't wait. Especially after the late night/early morning I have had.

So, again, Mary, thanks for making my day with the countdown until the cruise! :upsidedow

I am so sorry about your grandpa. It is never easy to lose a loved one, and your family is in my prayers. Wow, what a nice big family, such a blessing.
I feel so fortunate to have my parents and I am 59. My mom is not well at all and I know that any day I will get the call, but it will be a blessing. She has emphysema so bad that she struggles to breathe, and pretends to be ok, taking her oxygen off. She doesn't complain or talk about it, but I know my mom.

Blessings,
Susan

The musical Rent was outstanding.

The Vacation As You Wish event that we were signed up for was primarly for non members. I signed up from the passholders website. They gave the members that were there the option to skip the sale presentation portion and go directly on a tour of the BLT. They took us to a Lake View Grand Villa and to the Top of the World Lounge and fireworks viewing area. It's really nice and can't wait to say there for my birthday in November. We will have a Magic Kingdom View 1 bedroom then.

Now that is the kind of weekend I would love to have!!! I would love to see Rent..I hear it is fabulous!. Can't wait to see photos from the MK view rooms

Robbie,

I am almost afraid to tell you this.

I have both my adults and child Fish Extenders gifts done (with some extras just in case.). They are in the box and ready to be shipped to DCL so I do not have to take on the plane.

But with me being home I had something to do.

take care
flo
:surfweb:

Oh, Flo, I am going to bop you one...I haven't even started on my FE...just picked up some odds and ends at Disney Store...but FINISHED??? WITH EXTRAS??? If I were to get off the computer, I might get something done!

LOL
Susan

Wow! I have not been on the computer all weekend so I crawled in to bed with my laptop to check in and it took me forever to get through all the posts. You all have been very busy chatting.

Where is the time going? Only 9 Weeks!!!!

I still have to make my fish extender....ok, ok I still have to get someone to make my fish extender. :rotfl2: I bought the material but now I just have to get help making it. :rolleyes1

I have been looking at things for the FE gifts but have not made a final decision. Had to change my original plan as the list just kept getting bigger and bigger. That's great though...the more the merrier.

I start class this Wednesday so I am starting to get a little anxious about all the things I do not have done for the trip. Once class starts I will be so busy. It is a semester course in a 7 week block session. Class is 5:30 - 10:30 which is tough some nights. You really have to stay on top of everything. If you get behind on just one thing in these classes it is so hard to catch up.

Now to show how crazy I really get about planning ahead..... I will miss week 2 of one of my Fall classes when I am on the cruise and I contacted the professor this past week to get the syllabus and details of course work. I am so glad I did because we will have a research paper due on week 3. So, at least now I can plan ahead and get work done before the cruise. :thumbsup2

He said in an email that we can work something out. :cheer2: Fortunately I had this same professor for a class a couple years ago so he is familiar with my work.

So, when we are on the cruise you may find me in a corner reading my school books. :confused3

Does anyone have a good packing checklist for the cruise? Maybe what I should ask is....Is there anything specific that is a MUST HAVE on the cruise that one might not pack for a regular WDW trip?

Hiya!

How do you view your DVC?

First, it's a prepaid vacation. The largest expense for the two of us and we don't have to worry about it, just go. I like to keep things as simple as possible and it doesn't get simpler than that.

Second, is something that was the foundation of their sales pitch back then. You're buying points that will get you accommodations that are superior to the deluxe resorts at a price per point below them.
That, folks, is our deal.

We first started with DVC vacations when my parents bought at BCV. They wanted to provide the opportunity for everyone in the family to go on vacation. Prior to the DVC we had a couple of family vacations at various WDW resorts. My parents bought their initial points and have since added on a few times.

Skip forward a few years and I decided to purchase my own points to be able to plan smaller vacations. And by smaller vacations I mean not 10 - 16 people like some of our family vacations. That is fun and of course we do not try to plan everything together but it is nice to just be able to plan your own thing.

I love the DVC first because of the D in DVC. I, as most of you, am a Disney fanatic.

I love the DVC because of the flexibility you get with points versus other types of time shares and vacation clubs. I have several friends that have time shares where they get a specific week. WHAT?...a week that is it? And you have to go the same week every year. No thanks.

I also like the fact that I can leave it for my children. I made sure I put the points in 2 contracts so it would be easier in the future.

We purchase the annual passes and we always plan our vacations so that we get a minimum of 2 vacations for one year's pass. And, if you can get a good deal on airfare you can jump on a plane just about any time of the year for a long weekend at WDW. I feel we tend to enjoy our vacations more with time around the pool for the kids and just relaxing since we are not rushed to see everything in one vacation. Just knowing you are coming back again real soon.

I also have some friends and family that will pay to use my points so that is always nice if I have some extra. I always put that money directly toward the annual dues.

Thank you Mary for making my day. We are in the single digits now. :woohoo::yay::banana::dance3: I can't wait. Especially after the late night/early morning I have had.

I am with you about Sr citizens. We can't eat that late. On are past June cruise we got on the ship and asked to be changed. We got it on day 3 it was a 7 day. That is just to late for me. I like to eat and go to the shows.

I am early.

You could call DCL and be put on the list already and also keep checking to see if any one cancels with early.
