09/12/10 - DVCers Take Over the Wonder (S.S. Member Cruise 2010) - Thread #2

For those bringing the kiddos, here are some tips.

KIDS
1. Register your kids online for the clubs & book online for the nursery.

2. Talk to your kids about the clubs ahead of time. Let them look at some navigators that others have posted. If available, have them watch the DCL videos that are out there.

3. Show your kids the clubs and nursery on embarkation day so they can become acquainted with the room.

4. Make sure you have the CM test the pager before you leave the club.

5. Bring books and plain paper for kids during the down time in the room. Have them make a picture for the scrapbook when they get back home. Crayons are provided for the children at the table.

6. Tell your server that you want the kids served first and they will get them out very quickly, then one parent can drop them off at the club or the lab and be back before the main course is served. Most of the waiters watch and know not to bring your food when you are delivering you kids to the club. This allows you to enjoy time with the kids and still have a leisurely dinner to yourselves.

7. The counselors in the children’s programming are not tipped positions, but appreciate a small gift (candy is a popular gift).

8. Let your kids involved in the kids program right away. The sooner they meet kids the easier it is to make friends. Once the friends “pair up” it is more difficult to break in.

9. If your child is in Scuttle Cove remember to return every couple of hours to reapply sunscreen as the CMs are not allowed to apply it.

10. Give your kids a spending limit and then let them spend it as they wish. You may not think that a rubber snake is a great remembrance, but tell that to a six year old :-). This is a great use of your free shipboard credit (and it can be split amongst KTTW cards by the ship).

11. You can note on your reservation or ask your stateroom host for a diaper genie and/or a pack ‘n play.

12. Pack a bath mat for the bath tub so your little one won’t slip during bath time.

13. Make a “dining bag” for each night of the cruise with disposable spoon or form, disposable bib, disposable placemats (if you want), and wipes. Doing this you can just grab the bag and go if you are running late.

14. You can take your baby to the kids’ club and have them play there as long as you stay with your baby.

Good Morning.

Hope Gaston stays away from us. The big brute.

Nikki - sorry to hear your coworker is leaving and you have had a stressful week. Remember though vacation is getting so close and you can relax and have fun.

Thanks for all the thoughts....I am trying to stay positive!!!

NO more hurricane talk!!! You are freaking me out!!!!:scared1::scared1:

Seriously...I will be armed with all things anti-nausea...we are in 8524 if you need anything:rotfl:!!!

My DMom and Stepdad are at Myrtle Beach,SC this whole week. When they got there on Saturday they were not allowed in the ocean because of the Rip Tides. She said it has been sunny and beautiful and they lay on the beach and then go back and use the hotel pool. pixiedust: for Gaston and any of his friends to stay AWAY!!!

Exciting news. I meant to say this last night but time got away from me. Oooooooo, ready,

DH checked us in to Vero Beach last night!:banana: Love that online check in. That must mean we are getting closer.:banana: He will check in to BLT next week sometime. I need the little dancy guy for that one. :dancer:

Ok over extended this summer and with cruise and not getting paid (teacher here) :teacher: till middle of Sept could not afford the pirate costume. Will we stick out like a sore thumb if not dressed for the pirate night? We are going down the 10th and are super excited. Maybe I can pick something up at Pirates ride. I am doing my anti weather (not saying the word) dance. Family is at Ocean City MD this weekend and am a bit worried about rip currents. If we can't go to CC I am gonna be upset. Someone said they could divert to another port of call. I am using birth cert. to get on the boat so no passport. If this happens will I be stuck on the ship? :confused3

As a planner I am getting a little nervous as I will be out of my element. I have most of the kingdom down to a science but cruising is a new adventure. My head is bouncing for what to do. I have not scheduled any excursions and am now wondering if I screwed up. My DW says she is happy to relax on the beach as I am but worried we are missing the experience. Relaxation is my goal!

I had planned on reserving tube for the 2 days at CC. In the event that we are weather hindered can I get a refund. I have held off on purchasing that till I get a better feel of the weather.

If we want to send post cards to the kids should I bring postage?

See you have already probably gone over all these questions but now I am in panic mode.

Crazy in MD

DH and I are not dressing as pirates. We might were a pirate hat pirate: (picked up at the dollar store) or a bandanna.

We wear T Shirts with Skulls ................... You will not stick out as there are many that dress up to the hilt ............ some in the middle with bandannas and some just enjoy the night with no pirate items at all ........................ The main thing is to relax and enjoy the night ........................... Yo Ho .................pirate:

Scott, Disney won't charge you for the tube if we can't make it to CC. Not everyone dresses for Pirate Night. With so many crazy pirates to look at, who is to notice anyway. If you have a Joanne's fabric store near you they had pirate hats (out of foam that would lie flat and pack well) and stuff for kids parties if you want to pick up something cheap. A party store would be another place to look.

Postage won't do you any good if you mail your cards in the Bahamas. You have to buy stamps there. Of course the post office on CC won't be open on Sunday.

I didn't schedule any excursions either. I just like to sit on the adult beach with my feet in the water and read. Oh yeah, and eat steak there too.:)

Marsha, thank you so much for all the great tips. I'm keeping a file for when I sail with anyone new. It will answer all the questions. You have done a great job!:dance3::dance3: Karen

i guess you will be near us at the adult beach, we always head there. This year we are taking a couple pool noodles instead of renting floats. We find the clear inner tube floats tend to float away fast in the current if you let go at adult beach.
On a regular disney cruise very few dress up on pirates nite. On the member cruise more dress up but we are the minority. I know in the past they usually give you pirate bandana at supper. You can always pick up something on the ship. Thats how i started out.

Anyone staying at BLT before cruise?

Yes, we're at BLT! We originally got a water view, and after a waitlist, got the standard view for less points.

Our first stay there - gotta find out how the Top of the World lounge works and if we need reservations or just show up.

So who can answer this question for me !!!! What is the average cost of a beer (miller/bud) and a mixed or specialty drink from the bars ???? are they priced like at WDW 6.00 for a beer ????

Hmmmm... should I just post 25 quick replies to get a pirate???????

Hmmmmm......

Will we stick out like a sore thumb if not dressed for the pirate night?

My brother gave me a foam Captain Morgan's Pirate Hat the I can take apart, fold flat for packing and then reassemble on board. That's probably it for me, but DW may end up doing more and looking like a Pirate Queen, so I'm guessing both ends of the spectrum (and everything in between) will be well represented.

Regarding the sail away party.....

we were thinking about getting a bottle of champagne delivered to the stateroom for sail away, but don't want to miss all the festivities on deck.

Don't know if you get plastic flutes, or glass....? Could we bring it up on deck with us?

Any ideas?

What a dilemma!!!!!

Hmmmm....only 22 more to go.....

I feel like I'm setting someone up for an easy one..!!!!

Have fun getting the next pirate....I've gotta go!

"Gosh it disturbs me to see you Gaston......."
