09/12/10 - DVCers Take Over the Wonder (S.S. Member Cruise 2010) - Thread #2

IM SITTING HERE DOING MY FINAL FEs CHECK LIST:scared1: MUST SEPARATE EVERYTHING THEN PUT BACK TOGETHER ON SHIP. THATS THE PROBLEM WITH FLYING.:worship:HOPEFULLY I WILL BE ABLE TO GET MORE THAN MY PIRATES OUTFIT AND 1 SET OF CLOTHES TO WEAR:rotfl2:

Why don't you mail some of them to the ship? I know the size is limited as to what you can ship, but that will help give you more room for your pirate costume and 1 set of clothes. :lmao:

Does anyone have any good ideas for getting park tickets at a discount? We only need them for 4 days and because of the babies aren't getting the annual pass this year.... boo hoo...

EBAY! We've purchased WDW & DL Park Hopper tix and had extremely smooth transactions on both! :thumbsup2

Yes, I'm sitting here on the computer at 3:00 am! Just got home from my sister's bachelorette party. We were having a GREAT time until two of my sister's friends thought the "No Smoking" rule in Chicago bars didn't apply to them and we got kicked out of the bar!:mad::mad: I spent $50 to get up there only to turn around and get kicked out 20 minutes after we got there. I think that girl should give all 12 of us our $50 bucks back! I felt so bad for my sister!

That being said, up until that point we all had soooooo much fun! My sisters are hilarious when they're drinking!

Ok, well, I'm going to go to bed now...this is about five hours past my bedtime!

Oh poor thing!:scared1: Lets hope we all do better than that.;)
Hey you bring a travel iron? How is that different than a regular iron? Does it do as good a job?

Yes we have a travel iron. It is smaller than a regular iron. DH is the one that irons in our family and he said it is great for little touch ups and to do a pair of pants or a shirt. He wouldn't want to iron a lot with it but for vacation it works great. He just clears off the little table, puts a towel on it, and you have a make shift ironing board. ;)

Debbie - glad to hear you had a good time out with your sisters last night. But, ooooooooooooooooooo, I would be so mad at those friends :headache:. I can't believe they lit up inside the bar. They should know better.

Hope you are able to sleep in this morning. :rolleyes1

Debbie - I'm glad you had fun...sorry about those who don't think rules apply to them.....!!!

Ian - flying is a pain!!! I have been trying to figure out what to do with our liquor - I know that is REALLY important:rotfl::rotfl: I have laundry detergent in my OL - so if you start to smell from wearing your one set of clothes - we will DISCRETELY annouce the need for you to wash!!!:rotfl2::rotfl2:

We finally got some rain last night - our yard was so brown:eek:!!!

Chris our pool is in the front yard also - our property is like a sideways V so the land layout is different but we have a pool so we don't care!!!!

Moving DSis into college today:sad1:!!! I hope ot be back for the sail away party...if not I'm sure you all will have tons for me to catch up on!!!

GOOD MORNING LADIES AND GENTLEMEN,
BOYS AND GIRLS!
WE SET SAIL IN 3 WEEKS! THAT IS 21 DAYS!
:banana::banana::banana:
100_4228.jpg

Good Morning! I have not been chatting much lately as it has been a busy week. But, I have been reading the posts.

We are only 3 weeks aways!:banana::banana::banana: The suitcases are out and in our guest room and I have started packing. DS's clothes for the cruise are in the zip lock bags. And, some of my & DH's clothes are packed.

Since we are getting closer to our departure date, I will resume with the tips. If you missed some of the past ones or need a refresher, check out the first page of the this thread.

As for the princess: & pirate: contest, the last day to earn a :bride: or pirate: will be Sunday, Sept. 5 which will be the last day of our virtual sail away party before we are actually live on the ship.

If you want to have a designated spot on the ship to gather during the live sail away party to make a toast & celebrate Debbie's b-day, let me know. I think last year the DIS group met during the sail away party too.

Don't forget about our virtual sail away party this afternoon. Can't wait to chat with you then.

In 3 weeks, we will be entering our staterooms! Here are some tips. Feel free to let us know your tips. And, as always, if you have any questions, do not hesitate to ask.

STATEROOM
1. Some suitcases don't slide under the bed BUT if you lift up the bed frame they fit under perfectly!!!

2. Store all life vests under bed to give more shelf space. Hopefully, you will not need them!

3. The coffee table raises up to make it easier to sit on couch and eat.

4. To give you some extra space, ask your stateroom host to remove the table from your stateroom.

5. There is a "beverage cooler" in your stateroom. By placing a cup of ice in it, it will stay very cold. If you require a refrigerator for medication, baby formula, etc. you can obtain one by having the medical form completed, signed by your doc, and faxed to the number on the form. The form can be found on the DCL web site.

6. Feather Pillow - ask your stateroom attendant if you want one.

7. Ask your staterrom host for mattress liners in case of middle of the night accidents from over-tired, over-excited little cruisers.

8. Glow sticks/glow necklaces are FANTASTIC for anyone staying in inside rooms. Hang them over the bathroom door/stateroom door and other various places. You would be surprised how much light they actually give off. Just the cheap ones from the dollar store, buy like 4-5 packs, and they'll last you for at the least a 5 day cruise!

9. Even if you have an inside cabin you can have a view from the bridge! Your television has 3 channels dedicated to the cruise itself. One shows a camera facing forward just as if you were looking off the bridge. Another will show time, temperature, distance traveled etc. A third will show information you need to know.

10. Bring 2 bungee cords if you have connecting rooms to keep the doors open. They are heavy doors and will not stay open by themselves. If closed you cannot open them from the other stateroom. The cords worked great! You need one for each door.

11. If you have connecting rooms ask your stateroom host for the small blocks of wood they use to keep the doors open. The block goes in the upper part of the door by the closer and keeps it open. Easy to remove if you want to close them at night.

12. Bring an over the door shoe hanger which you can use for shoes, but also for the little things you need like suntan lotion, sunglasses, etc. The kids can have their own pocket. Use a sharpie to write their name on it so they know which pocket is theirs. Or, bring door hooks for the bathroom. The door hooks are great for hanging your toiletry bags, clothes, jewelry, anything really. Take two for the split bath, one for toiletries and the other for shoes. Buy the cheap ones and leave them there. Both free up some counter space.

13. Bring a canvas sweater type closet organizer saved one DISer’s cabinet from being a total mess since there is very little shelf/drawer space.

14. Bring a travel fan for white noise.

15. Bring a zip tie to keep your fish extender from floating away. Or, personalize it. Zip ties can also be used to “lock” your luggage.

16. Bring Post-It notes, dry erase boards, and pens to communicate with other members of your travelling party. Stick a Post-It note on the inside of the connecting door so when your friends in the adjoining cabin open their door they can see it. Also, great to leave notes for family who "Cross like ships in the night" or even your cabin steward.

17. Bring Windex wipes to clean your glass on your veranda - the salt spray accumulates and obstructs the view (the 1/4" glass is clear).
18. If you need to use a curling iron or blow dryer you might want to bring an extension cord as the outlets are not in the best place on the desk for using one.

19. If you want a little privacy from the kids bring a few clothes pins to keep the privacy curtain closed.

20. If you get a sewer smell in your bathroom it is easy to cure yourself by pouring a cup or two of water down the drain behind the toilet (we've never experienced it but have read about the smell on the DIS). OR A little travel tip:

This works for more than just DCL bathrooms too - have used it in hotels and on trains and even on airplanes (longer flights)

If you're not the sort to remember to bring spray with you, next time you stop in a hotel (or the night before if you're getting in ahead of time) take one of the "coffee pods" that are found in most hotel rooms and stick it in a pocket of your suitcase. Since they are kept in foil covers, it will stay fresh until you use it. Since they are from hotels, they are usually 'sealed' pods - doesn't make a difference if it's single cup or full pot, decaf or regular, any work. Open and put in your bathroom. The coffee works 2 ways to help, it both absorbs odor (like baking soda) and also tends to 'overpower' other smell sensors in your nose. This works well against "sewage smells" as well as other normal bathroom odors! Plus, it doesn't cost you anything.

21. If you have a family that makes it own smells you might want to bring an air freshener for the bathroom.

22. Ask your stateroom host for disinfecting wipes if you need them.

Well, we are off to mess around down in the big city of Des Moines today. Just gonna go have some fun. Hope we will be back in time for the sailaway party. If we don't make it back in time, have fun. :goodvibes

There are no irons in the rooms. You have to go down to a laundry room to use the iron. Unless you take your own. Which we do. We have a travel iron that we have in our owners locker.

thank you for the great suggestion of a travel iron.

thanks Marsha for all the great tips. :cheer2:

you have listed items that I wouldn't even have thought about.

Debbie - glad to hear you had a good time out with your sisters last night. But, ooooooooooooooooooo, I would be so mad at those friends :headache:. I can't believe they lit up inside the bar. They should know better.

Hope you are able to sleep in this morning. :rolleyes1

Yes, we were all pretty upset with them...mostly the second girl that did it because she knew the other girl had already tried it and got busted. Oh well. I got to sleep in until just a few minutes ago. So I got about six hours of sleep! :upsidedow

Moving DSis into college today:sad1:!!! I hope ot be back for the sail away
party...if not I'm sure you all will have tons for me to catch up on!!!

Thanks! I know...I really get aggravated by people who think the rules don't apply to them. Especially when their actions are affecting so many other people.

Good luck with the move today!

15. Bring a zip tie to keep your fish extender from floating away. Or, personalize it. Zip ties can also be used to “lock” your luggage.

One thing to add to this tip (thank you Marsha for all the GREAT tips!!!) is to make sure you keep something out of your luggage to cut the zip tie. This applies to using zip ties to "lock" your luggage OR keeping your fish extender out until the last morning of the cruise (Since you pack your luggage the night before).

A "tool" that works perfectly is a fingernail or toenail clipper, rather than taking a pocket knife through security (not sure if they're allowed as a carry on or not)

:wave2:

Hope you are having a great weekend.

I can't believe we are so close to our cruise. :yay:

Marsha...:thanks: for the great tips!!!!!

We have all our fish extender gifts done and they are packed in our shipping box. The box will be shipped in a week.

Our daughter left for college on Friday.

The next thing...pack for our trip!!!!!:banana:

Looking forward to the sailaway party. :surfweb::boat:

[/THE LAST 3 SAIL AWAY PARTIES ON THE SHIP LAURA AND I USUALLY GO INFRONT OF SMOKESTACK THAT MICKEY SLIDES DOWN FROM ON PIRATE NIGHT ON TOP DECK. THATS WHERE IVE TAKEN ALL MY PHOTOS OF THE STAGE
IMG_0753.jpg
B]

But we usually go up there because i take photos of stage and crowd. I dont mind if someone can get a good spot down below for everyone. If we cant get down there I will make sure we get our usual spot up top and if I knew where everyone was grouped together and you were on the POOL I could shoot down and take Photo from above of group. Similiar to Photo I posted here. I guess when we meet onboard in the Promenade at WHAT TIME? we could talk about that.

I can usually get in the centre or closer to get better view of lower deck. But we are coming from DECK 1 after the safety drill, THE BOWELS OF THE SHIP:rotfl2: so it may take us longer to get back to the top.
