09/12/10 - DVCers Take Over the Wonder (S.S. Member Cruise 2010) - Thread #2

Something about those long winters and Hockey
GROWING UP HERE IN THE WINTER WE WOULD GO DOWN TO THE CREEKS OFF LAKE ONTARIO AND PLAY HOCKEY FROM DEC TO MAR. NOW ITS SO MILD IN THE WINTER HERE RARELY DOES THAT WATER FREEZE FOR VERY LONG NOW. WE GeT HARDLY ANY SNOW HERE. WE LIVE 30 MILES NORTH OF BUFFALO, THEY MAY GET A FOOT OF SNOW AND WE ARE LUCKY IF WE GET AN INCH OR TWO

up here your more likely to run into hockey players

Yes but running into Hockey Players is scary, they are the ones always starting the fights. :rotfl2:

Sadly we don't have an NHL team here, we do have a couple of IHL teams but no NHL.

YOU MUST BE NOT FAR FROM CHICAGO? I THINK HOCKEY IS THE ONLY SPORT THAT ALLOWS FIGHTING SORT OF:rotfl2: THE WORST FOR THAT WERE THE BROAD STREET BULLIES BACK IN THE 1970s. THE PHILADELPHIA FLYERS
FUNNY MOST PEOPLE THINK OUR NATIONAL SPORT IS HOCKEY BUT ITS NOT. LACROSSE IS.

It is like a double edge sword, not as much to shovel, but the winter fun is not there either...

Wow you all were busy!!! Congrats Ian and Shawn!!!

DH is a die hard Steelers and Penguins fan. In addition he will watch ANY football, golf, tennis, soccer....and he enjoys golfing.

We went out for dinner tonight - spaghetti last night - DH NEEDED wings!!After we stopped at WalMart for a few things and found these awesome cups - they look like fast food drink cups, lid straw and all 0 but are made of hard plastic with a locking lid and a silicone grip. $5 in a variety of colors and they have a built in mixer/stir thingy on the straw. After reading Marsha's tip about having a wide mouth cup to take beverages back to the room we were looking for something and these are perfect....we each got a different color. I am going back next week because they also have them for hot beverages!!!! I NEED my coffee and DH loves hot tea!!!!

I have seen them, awsome, we got double layered cups at bed bath and beyond with lids, can't wait to try them with coke and crown, or maybe a homemade milk shake, minus the crown....

Does anyone know about how many CM are in the Oceanears Club? I would like to purchase phone cards for them as a thank you since my DGD will be in there.

Terrie so envious The Queen Room-wow. We love V&A especially the coffee pot they put on your table! It's really something watching the coffee brew-I know how boring watching coffee brew!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Coffee lovers would appreciate it. My DH and I will be going to the Food & Wine Festival maybe I'll try to surprise him with ressies there-if possible.

well i don't take kids with me, so i would won't be able to help, but dcl may be able to if you call them...

We are all early risers - not by choice - the little people we created think that the sun is their alarm clock!!!:rotfl2:

I got most of my FEs done today - just a few more to finish up. Got some packing done too. Here is a crazy question - since I was not thinking about DHs needing dress pants for dinner - do the men wear dress shoes??? I need help - someone needs to pack for me - or at least tell me everything to do!!!

I was wondering the same thing - I will be bringing chocolate - we have a local candy company that is awesome - I was thinking maybe some chocolate covered pretzels....

Jenny that sounds like a lovely trip. I have never been to the smokey mountains. Did you take pics? If so, please post.

Don't ya just hate that morning. Sounds like us going to DTD before heading home. Of course I am going to get my chocolate from Ghirhadelli to bring home. But on the brite side, four weeks and we will be sailing away and you'll be back at Disney!!!!
:woohoo::woohoo::woohoo:
Love food reports. Can't wait to see your food porn! :rotfl2:
We love Jellyrolls. It is so much fun. You guys have a blast and think of us as we will be wishing we were there with you.;)

Yeah, we wound up procrastinating so much that after DTD we went back to MK to get a Dole Whip :goodvibes

I will be happy to provide food porn for all from The Queen's Room:thumbsup2

Wow, I've been away for several months and I had hundreds of pages to read and then find a new thread! You guys have been SO BUSY! I had no idea Disboards would be like this. This is so cool. We've been a bit busy ourselves. We have a new baby- due last week... Born in May.. just a bit early. It's really my granddaughter, but since they live only 3 miles away, we live the drama. We have a 15 month granddaughter by the same daughter so two babies has been quite fun. We are REALLY ready for the cruise. It will be hard to be away and at Disney with the rest of the family but we also can't wait for a break. In the midst of all the fun, my DH and I were being pulled behind the boat by a "friend" who decided we should jump bigger waves on the tube and we crashed into each other. My DH's head hit my shoulder. 6 weeks later, my arm is still broken. So I'm learning to type a little slower now. However, all that being explained, I'm still planning to make buttons for those that want them! I have the supplies and some ideas for the design. I luckily had all my FE gifts completed before we started with the baby in May so we're ready for 11 days of Disney and cruising!! Woo hoo!!

Sonia, welcome back ot the DISboards :goodvibes Congratulations on yur new baby granddaughter. So sorry to hear about your accident. Here is some pixiedust: for a quick recovery :goodvibes Wally and I would still love to have buttons thank you! :worship: We are SO ready to go on this cruise too :yay:

Woo Who have so much fun you two :worship:, milford and i talk about going to victoria and alberts but have yet to get there...

take pictures and let us know how it goes....

We certainly will! Thank you :goodvibes You will enjoy it very much when you do go. After my first visit I learned to eat a very light and early lunch. Although the courses are small, you are VERY full at the end. The main room dining is six courses but the Queen's Room is 10 courses  I don't think i will be eating lunch at all that day :lmao:

I am so with you on Spectro over MSEP, I so want Conch Chowder from Olivia's , Fried Chicken would be great to if they still have it...
:dance3:

Ooh, that sounds yummy, I will have to try that next time.

I BET WE ARENT ENJOYING OUR WEEKEND AS MUCH AS YOU. I WOULD DO WHAT YOUR DOING BUT A $200 AIRLINE TICKET STOPS ME:confused3

Ya know, Wally and I are now re-thinking the whole idea of moving to TN, SC or GA to retire one day. I think the furthest north we will wind up is Central Florida :lmao: Between, everyone saying that living in the cold is bad and the idea of not being able to feasibly come to WDW for quick getaways maybe we should stay here

Vicki

Not at all Vicki! Coffee brewing is wonderful! I am a coffee lover, can't function without it in the morning :thumbsup2 Oh that would be such a nice surprise! I am sure he'd love it.

Oh boy, there's another thing I haven't thought of, shoes for DH  Of course, just yesterday he told me we'd need an entire suitcase just for the shoes I am bringing :rotfl2: Now I gotta worry about his shoes. Looking forward to the answer on this one. I was going to pack him some casual non dress shoes but that aren't sneakers either for the optional dress up night. Oh boy, I need to really start thinking about packing...YIKES!

HAPPY BELATED ANNIVERSARY SONIA & TONY!
(diz4 & DH celebrated their anniversary on 8/15)
HOPE YOU HAD A WONDERFUL & ENJOYABLE DAY!
:love::love::love:

Ian - yes it has stopped raining here, for the time being. We are supposed to get some more later this week.

Shoes - well DH has a pair of boat shoes (I think that is what you call them) that he wears with his khaki's to dinner. They look just fine. However, he would take his black dress shoes if we were going to go to Palo. So, IMHO, as long as they aren't tennis shoes or flip flops, you should be fine. Even nice sandals I think would work. Oops, I just looked and he is also taking a casual pair of black shoes to wear to dinner. Hope this helps. :flower3:
