09/12/10 - DVCers Take Over the Wonder (S.S. Member Cruise 2010) - Thread #2

OH my gosh, Terrie! Now I see why you didn't want to take his name! It's pronounced completely different than it's spelled. I would have never guess that's how it's pronounced! So, I wonder if your "dad" knows my DH's "dad" :lmao:

I know when I first saw it I thought it would be pronounced Nuh-Guy-Yen :rotfl: His first name is actually Hoa which is pronounced Hwah. It is the most common name in Vietnam kinda like John Smith :lmao: Only his immediate family calls him Hoa and mine calls me Teresa  We both prefer Wally and Terrie though.

You DH's dad and my "dad" could probably form their own club from the sound of it :rotfl2:

If you're taking votes, I vote for Ivanna Margarita. :thumbsup2

Are you sure? We could always put Hu Flung Pu and Emma Roids in the running :rotfl2:

I'm kidding...even I wouldn't do that. Think about it and giggle like a 12 year old...yes...actually go through with it...no

Happy Friday! I hope you are all ready for a great weekend. We are counting down the days until the cruise. I look forward to meeting all of you!

I just go with first names, it makes life so much simpler but I guess it's boring. Maybe I should say Minnie and Daisy?:rotfl2:

OMG, Terrie, I am laughing my butt off. I mean literally. I have tears running down my face. DH just asked what was so funny so I told him and he said suggested Cee Moore Butts. :lmao::lmao::lmao:

It's Saturday... now we're starting to pack. Ok.. think about packing. We are so ready for a vacation. Yesterday should have been Friday the 13th.
So, here was our day. A teacher fell on the way into school, slipped in water so I had to escort her with the EMS and spend the morning in the ER. She's okay by the way, twisted knee. Meanwhile, my grandaughter, 18 mo old, found coins while my daughter went to the bathroom and decided that SHE might be a piggy bank. My husband and daughter (in hysterics) took her to the ER to retrieve the coins. (which incidentially it turned out she didn't swallow) ON the way to the ER my daughter hit and killed a kitten.
AND while all this was occuring, a student in the injured teacher's classroom had a seizure and fell out of her chair on her face in the classroom. When I called school mid morning, it was CHAOS!!!
Meanwhile...back at the ranch. When my own family returned to my daughter's house, they found the dog had pushed the door open. My daughter left in such a hurry that she put the dog outside without pushing the door totally closed. The door had been open all morning and the house was filled with flies and the dog and destroyed the house. Nothing torn up, but stuff everywhere.
I'm telling you.... we were just a week late. and.....I NEED A VACATION!

We have co-op students work with us and we like to give them weird names. This term we named him Philip Ontakos (fill up on tacos). :rotfl2: his real name is Steve.

Oddly enough my own name is a joke. At work when they page me it always sounds like I-need-a-perfect-bologna. :lmao: That's right I hyphenated my name when I got married and now it is which sounds like I need a perfect bologna.

Yes, you do need a vacation. What a terrible day for you and your family. Hope today goes better.

Oh my gosh! I'm sorry you had such a bad day yesterday! All of those things in separate days would be terrible to deal with let alone all in the same day! I hope today is much better for everyone. Hopefully the cat she hit was just a stray!!!

Debbie - I hope the situation with your DD is resolved soon!! How frustrating. Do you all have parent advocates out that way?? I hate to "work" on DIS but as a social work my first referral for families at my agency would be to contact the advocate. In PA our home district is required to pay for the students placed outside of the district - it also helps that we have an attorney on staff to fight those fights....:)!

Terrie - PEEING MY PANTS!!!!:rotfl2::rotfl::rotfl2::rotfl: HU FLUNG PU!!!! :rotfl::rotfl:
We have a family in our area with the last name spelled the same way as Wally's - they pronounce it Gwin- they are both doctors and are very good natured about people butchering their name. I am VERY boring - I took DHs last name my DDad has his mom's 1st husbands last name so there was no attachment there...the super good thing is DHs family are all about 30 miles away and we are the ONLY Holonich's in this area - nothing bad attached to our name. It is pronounced HA-lon-itch, DD6 learned to spell it at 3 just from listening to me spell it to people all the time...She would say I'm Audra Louise Holonich - H-O-L-O-N-I-C-H:lovestruc!!!!

Well we went crazy last night. Since getting the pool we have had a few "parties on the deck" which is usually DH and I and my DDad and DStepmom. My DSis leaves for college tomorrow and has to work all day today so I wanted to have one last party on the deck with her....we started at 7:30pm and came in at 2am - the beer flowed freely.....but we had such a fun evening....and we remembered to throw in those important life advice issues for young adults - don't drink in excess - like we are doing (none of us are naive enough to think she will not EVER party) don't walk campus alone, don't get into a car with anyone who is drinking - I"m pretty sure she was rolling her eyes the whole time - like how many times are you gonna tell me that???!!!!!

Well today I can see me sleeping on the deck....hopefully with sunscreen on!!!

Sounds like you guys had a great time last night! How fun!

That's so cute how Audra learned how to spell her last name.

We do have parent advocates. But the last time we were able to schedule a case conference with one, DH adavocated for DD and the advocate just sat there and said NOTHING! Our state claims to care about the kids, but in reality all they care about is their funding. The "No child left behind" law is a joke in our state! Our schools did a whole re-organization (which is what left me in this mess to begin with) and now there will be kids that will actually have to ride TWO different busses in the morning and after school! It's all crazy and I don't know how it's going to work, if I didn't love living here so much (it's my hometown that I grew up in since I was in 3rd grade), we would be moving because I am not sure the schools are acting in the children's best interest with all of these changes. Our governor cut something like $300 million from the school budgets and that resulted in our school having to make a $1 million budget cut. So, they restructured so that all four of our schools would qualify as Title 1. Which resulted in having to re-coordinate bus routes and it's just going to be a mess. Ok, now I'm stressed out again, so I'm gonna go eat some chocolate! LOL!!!!
