09/12/10 - DVCers Take Over the Wonder (S.S. Member Cruise 2010) - Thread #1

WOW!!!! I HOPE I DONT SAY THE WRONG THING HERE. FIRST OF ALL MARSHA IS RIGHT, THIS CRUISE COMES ONCE A YEAR AND YOU ARE BOOKED FROM NOV. THIS WILL BE OUR 4th MEMBER CRUISE. WE ARE VERY EXCITED AND WILL SEE SOME FRIENDS WE HAVE MADE IN THE PAST ON THIS CRUISE THAT WE SEE ONCE OR TWICE A YEAR. WE KEEP IN TOUCH. THIS CRUISE IS SO SPECIAL I SAT ON THE PHONE THIS YEAR FROM 9am UNTIL 3pm PRESSING REDIAL JUST TO GET THRU. NEXT YEAR IM PROBABLY GOING TO DRIVE FROM HERE NEAR NIAGARA FALLS TO NEAR BOSTON THE FRI BEFORE THE CALL DAY AND VISIT OUR DISNEY CRUISE FRIENDS. THEY GET THRU EARLY EVERY YEAR. WE HAVE DONE DVC AND REGULAR DISNEY CRUISES, THERE IS NO COMPARISON. WE HAVE DONE A DEC CRUISE AND EVERYTHING WAS DECORATED FOR CHRISTMAS. WE WOULD STILL PREFER THE DVC CRUISE! ITS A DIFFERENT ATMOSPHERE ON A DVC CRUISE. WELL I GUESS YOU COULD SAY WE ARE MORE DISNEY FANATICS THAN ON A REGULAR CRUISE. YOU MAY NOT GET ANOTHER CHANCE. 2 YEARS AGO WE MET VINCE PAPALI AND HIS WIFE AND HAD LUNCH WITH THEM ON THE ISLAND . WE TALKED LIKE WE WERE FRIENDS. IF YOU DONT KNOW WHO HE IS THEY MADE THE MOVIE INVINCABLE (not sure if i spelled it right). I GUESS WHAT IM SAYING IS YOU CAN MEET AND SIT AND TALK WITH THE SPECIAL GUESTS BY THE POOL, BEACH, OR WHERE EVER YOU SEE THEM. LAST YEAR LAURA AND I HAD A NICE CONVERSATION WITH CASEY, YOU PROBABLY HAVE SEEN HER DOING THE DVC PROMOS. WELL IVE MADE THIS POST LONG, IM JUST TRYING TO SAY DONT MISS OUT. YOUR FAMILY SHOULD UNDERSTAND AND WORK OUT A DIFFERENT TIME TO MEET. WE HAVeNT BEEN ABLE TO ATTEND EVERY FAMILY FUNCTION AND OTHER FAMILY MEMBERS HAVENT BEEN ABLE TO ATTEND SOMETHING WE PLANNED. I HOPE YOU WORK THIS OUT AND GO

Thank you to all those who read my post and have offered their advice. I must clarify the family situation. My family celebrates religious holidays according to the lunar calendar. So we usually do not know the exact dates until closer to the holiday. Also, since the rest of the US operates on the Gregorian calendar we don't always plan on getting together to celebrate due to work and school schedules. On top of that, my parents spend part of the year abroad so we did not know they would be here this fall. Now that we know they are coming and that our holiday will be on September 9 or 10, my sister is hosting a get together for those that can make it. So she was not being disrespectful to us by planning for that weekend. I was just feeling bad that I would not be there. I called DVC today and learnt that if we cancel then I could use those points to book a four day cruise on Halloween. So dear friends please share your insight on regular vs. dVC cruise and also if anyone has been on the cruise at Halloween please share your experience.

Thank you once again for your support. You guys are great.

Everyone has given great prespectives to both sides. Someone had mentioned perhaps celebrating with your family and flying out Sunday morning. Since you know the event at your sister's is either the 9th or 10th, is it possible to go to your sister's on the 9th spend a few days with the fam and fly out sunday am? I don't know how far your sister lives from you or how easily you can get a morning flight out of her city but we have to fly in Sunday morning (12th) due to DHs work schedule - he has to sork until 6pm on the 11th and we are 1.5 hrs from the airport so the soonest flight we could take was Sunday AM and luckily we got a SW flight at 8:30 am!! This was you could have the Best of Both Worlds!!! :rolleyes1 Bringing back the singing fun!!!

Terrie congrats on yourpirate: & :bride:!!!! I don't know how you were able to time it to get both;)!!!!

We haven't decided about MNSSHP yet we did it in 2008 and had such a blast!!! DH dressed as Woody and I as Jesse - I made our costumes and we got so many compliments - I will reuse those if we go again!!! The 18th would be our option but we fly out so early on the 19th I am a little worried about being out too late - :upsidedow I am such a wimp!!!

All this anniversary talk--- and with my Disney Depression - for anyone who cares I am adding this to the DSM IVR - that is what those of us in the mental health profession use for diagnosing - Post Disney Syndrome (PSD) will be defined as a period of sadness, lack of interest in ususal activities and fatigue following a Disney vacation. The symptoms should not last for more than 3 weeks. If more than 3 weeks it will be Post Disney Depression!!! There is only ONE known cure - GO BACK TO DISNEY!!!! :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2: See now I have lost my mind!!!

OK totally off track - anniversary - so DH and I celebrate our 10th April 21 2011 and DD will turn 7 April 25 2011 then you throw in Easter April 24 2011 and you have one great reason to spend 9 days at WDW!!! This is unusual for us because DH has to work every other weekend so the most we have been able to do is 7 days so he can recoup before returning to work. BUT his store closes for Easter which would be his weekend to work SOOOOO he will be off from Sat April 16 2011 to Sun Apr 24 2011 if he takes vacation that week. :yay::yay::yay: Of course all I ever think of is WDW is I said lets go there for our anniversary and LUCKILY DH loves WDW as much as I do:lovestruc!!! SOOOO let the planning begin!!! First obstacle - HUGE points we have never traveled during the holidays and WOW!!! the points. Then I kinda used some of our 2011 for the family trip:rolleyes1 so we only have 235pts left for 2011 - a BDR at SSR is 367 for the time span - no problem - I will borrow - DH says then what we are going to run out of pts!!! ME: NO NO We will add on on the cruise!!!:lmao: DH: Really? He gets scared when I start talking add on.....

So then I have read so much about how crazy the holidays are at WDW and I thought we would stick to our usual plan - parks at rope drop - pool for afternoon - back to parks some of the evenings. We had already decided Fri - Sun we would hang out at the resort and avoid some of the insanity. So others said that even doing that the pools are crazy busy so now I am REALLY worried. Am I nuts? Anyone travel at Easter who can offer advice? It was CRAZY busy when we were there this trip on Fri and Sat - so that is why we decided no parks. HELP!!!!! My cure for PDS is not taking effect!!!

Mickeyphile - we have been on two Halloween cruises and have enjoyed them very much. The ship is decorated some for Halloween, not as much as at Christmas time but there are some decorations up and around. I'll see if I can find some Halloween pictures and post when I get home. They also have a trick or treating route for the kids to go on where they hand out candy. Also, one year, the dis thread I was on also put on a trick or treat route where it was just for those that signed up on here and brought stuff for all the kids. I believe that worked out very well.

I also remember them having a Halloween party in the atrium and having a costume party with prizes for the best costumes.

We would do a Halloween cruise again and not be disappointed.

You should go because you can always sleep on the plane. :rotfl:

I always knew there was an "official" name for the feeling I get after my Disney trip is over so thank you. And, no, you have not lost your mind.

OK totally off track - anniversary - so DH and I celebrate our 10th April 21 2011 and DD will turn 7 April 25 2011 then you throw in Easter April 24 2011 and you have one great reason to spend 9 days at WDW!!! We got a case of addonitis on the last cruise. I was surprised DH caught it. But, he insisted we buy more points. Who am I to go against his wishes? :)

So then I have read so much about how crazy the holidays are at WDW and I thought we would stick to our usual plan - parks at rope drop - pool for afternoon - back to parks some of the evenings. Don't worry. Be happy. You are going back to Disney. And, I am sure it will not be too crazy for you to enjoy yourself. This is from a person who has not been to Disney during Easter.

I have to put a Disney Halloween cruise on my list. I hope you have pictures.

Thank you :goodvibes Timing is everything as they say :rotfl:

I'd like to get DH to do a costume at MNSSHP but his main priority is comfort. We saw the movie Kick @$$ (don't think I can use that word on the DIS) and I told him I wanted to be Hit Girl and would he please be Kick A**? He looked at me like I had 2 heads :confused3

Oh finally! There is an actual name for what DH and I have after leaving WDW!!!! Thank you! Now we can tell our docs to read up on journals and see if there is any other cure than going back :lmao:

What a great way to celebrate you anniversary :lovestruc Personally, I would recommend subscribing to Tour Guide Mike for the year and following his advice to the "T" in order to avoid crowds and maximize your experience during peak times. We don't go during peak times but still subscribe every year to TGM and plan accordingly. Heck I have logged on while in WDW through my crackberry to figure out best viewing for fireworks while I am there when I forgot where I was suppsoed to go!

What lovely pictures! I am sure she will love the album!!! Ian, you are in good company. There are two topics I discuss with gusto, Disney and dogs :rotfl2:

Terrie :)

Good morning everyone! Sad day in our family....my dad lost the election. He's been in politics for about 20 years and this is the first time he's lost. I'm still in shock. His opponent did nothing and he was out 7 days a week for three months. I just don't understand how he lost. Oh well....obviously it wasn't meant to be. I know there are a lot of people at the County Building that are shocked as well, not to mention upset because they wanted him there.

Well, hope you all have a great day! The week is halfway over! YAY!

I agree with subscribing to Tour Guide's Mike site. He offers very good advice and you get a discount since you a DISer (I believe). Warning, some articles are a little outdated and some have found the site difficult to navigate, but I found it very useful. If only my family had listened, we could have done a lot more.

I know what you mean on the MNSSHP, we have attended both of the last two years after having been on the cruise. Sadly we slated ourselves to start the drive hom on Saturday morning and according to the dates they just announced they will not be having the party on Friday evening this year, even though they did the last two. We will miss that for sure. We used to be able to get both the MNSSHP and the Wine and Food Festival at Epcot on this trip, but they move the Intl. Wine and Food Festival to not start until October 1st now. Oh well, then I guess its Golf on Thursday afternoon, and then we will use our Give a Day - Get a Day passes on Friday at Epcot and enjoy a nive dinner at LeCellier (sp).

Hope everyone is having a great week, sorry I have not been posting lately but things are finally getting busy at work again. Our sales were up again this month for cars so that is a good sign.

My DW just called and said our lithograph from webcast just came today. Said it is nice. That is good because web cast was boring. lol Then local radio station called and someone nominated us for Little League team of the week and we won. Orioles tickets, t-shirts and food. The dj will come to one of our next games to present us with our prizes. On the radio tomorrow morning for the announcement. My kids are gonna be excited. Ok back to work have to head out to softball and baseball as it is senior night here at school.

Hopefully, they will add some more dates. We went before the cruise.

Congrats on the increasing sales. :thumbsup2

What does the lithograph look like?
Congrats to your Little League team. :thumbsup2

I agree that I wish they wouldn't have moved either the Members Cruise or Food & Wine Fest so that we couldn't enjoy both at the same time like we have done before. It is so hard to try and do both. But somehow DH manages to get us to both. Don't know how. But this year when we go back for F&W we will have to leave the girls at home. They can't miss a whole week for the cruise then more time for F & W. Which they hate because, like us, they love them both. But after last year when we went on the cruise without them but did take them to F&W, they said they wouldn't be left behind for the cruise. So this year they get the cruise and no F&W. Sounds like a compromise right? Any one else find this to be a dilema? Or maybe we just go too dang often! ;) I mean, me and DH will be there this weekend and we all four were just there in March. :confused3 Can anyone just have too much Disney? I mean it seems we are there at least once every 3-4 months. Am I crazy?????? :rolleyes1

Can't believe it but it is our 5th DVC cruise. I just wish they would put a island port on our trip instead of 2 cast a ways..... Can't wait for the 2011 dvc cruise it is going to be on the Disney Dream......... :wizard::banana::cool1:pirate:

What a great compromise! I wish the F&W festival was the same time as the cruise too. I so want to go to it one day. I do not think you are crazy and NO YOU DO NOT GO TO WDW TOO MUCH. I wish we could go once every 3-4 months. Hmmm, now how can I make that happen. :rolleyes1

welcome aboard us 2 we are excited

:welcome: Glad you found our thread. Hope to get to know you better. Don't forget to read the first post on this thread. It has a lot of useful info and I am sure you will be able to answer a lot of questions since this is your 5th members cruise. This is will be my 2nd. I am looking forward to it.
