I just watched the Wonder sail out of port. I told DH that I can't wait to be on her again. I just love those ships. Magic/Wonder, it doesn't really matter just so long as I'm on one of them! :thumbsup2

Hi,

My DH and three kids are booked on the member cruise this year and have been very much looking forward to it (well my DH and I have as the kids don't even know yet). Last week I found out that my parents and siblings are all gathering at my sister's home the same weekend as the cruise departure for a family celebration. This is something that cannot be changed and they are ok with us not being able to come. However, my parents seemed very disappointed when I told them we already had plans. They very much look forward to any opportunity where all their kids and grandkids are with them (only happens once or twice a year). So now I am guilt ridden and thinking about changing our plans so that we cruise in late October. Most of what we would have done in September we will be able to do in October EXCEPT that it is not a DVC cruise. I would love some feedback from previous DVC cruisers on what they would do. Thanks

I THINK I FORGOT TO MENTION, JET BLUE CHANGED OUR FLIGHT GOING DOWN, WE NOW LEAVE HERE AT 840am AND ARRIVE AT 1120am, WE WERE SUPPOSED TO FLY AT 1130am, NOW WE HAVE TO GET UP REALLY EARLY. THEY LEFT US A MESSAGE JUST SAYING OUR TIME CHANGED BUT DIDNT TELL US OUR FLIGHT WAS CANCELLED AND PUT US ON DIFFERENT FLIGHT. OH WELL I GUESS WE WILL BE AT WDW 3 HOURS EARLIER:cool1:I GUESS WE WILL BOOK AN EARLY DINNER.
THEY WERE PRETTY GOOD ABOUT IT AT JET BLUE, TOLD ME TO WRITE THEIR COMPLAINT DEPT.

sorry to hear about you problem. I think your parents will understand. Dvc member cruises are so hard to get on and they are special, with special guests and things to do. You said in the post that everyone else is ok with you going. Your parents should understand.

Oh my gosh, how torn I would be on this decision. My first thought when I read your post was "How close is this family?" My second thought was that if your parents only get to see their grandkids all together at the same time twice a year and it is a very special time for them, I think I would lean towards spending time with the family. Not to be a "Debbie Downer", but life is short, and you never know what tomorrow brings. But, it also depends on how close your whole family is. I would love to say ditch the family and go enjoy the DVC Member cruise...but being extremely family oriented, I can't say that. :upsidedow I know how crushed my parents or my in-laws would be if I chose to go on a cruise the specific week that they were planning a great big get together that couldn't be moved to a different week.

You said they are ok, but you know they are disappointed. Why don't you talk to them more about it and see how you feel afterwards?

OR: Is there a chance that you could spend time with the family Friday and Saturday and then fly in to Orlando really early on Sunday? Then you get to do both? Just a thought...not sure if it is feasible.

Good luck....I know this is a difficult decision....DVC and DCL ARE like family, so it's like choosing one family over the other!

 Congrats on the :bride: & pirate:pirate: & getting MNSSHP tixs for Halloween Night. That should be fun. Have you been on Halloween night before? If so, is it crowded?

:rotfl: Thank you!!!! Yes, we have. This year will be our 7th consecutive Halloween trip :woohoo: No, it's not crowded and most rides are literally walk on, no line, no waiting. I believe they limit the ticket sales to a certain number well below capacity. Halloween night always sells out so we buy the tix as soon as they go on sale. I do think that they have raised their maximum number of tickets to sell year after year. It does seem like there are more people each year but it still doesn't compare to normal crowd levels :scared1: Well worth the cost of the ticket IMO :rolleyes1

We also did the Pirate and Princess parties when they were offered. I really miss those :sad2:

Terrie :)

35 years! Wonderful!!!! My dream would be to renew our vows at 20 or 25 years with a Disney Fairy Tale Wedding. DH keeps telling me that the cost of the vow renewal only means less DVC add on points we can buy  Geesh, I think he has finally figured me out. Oh man, I think I'm going to be

Our MNSSHP night is on Halloween night :cool1: I love the parade. I heard during our Ft. Wilderness Segway tour that the horse (Ned, I think is his name) who leads the parade with the Headless Horseman is retiring after this year. A new horse is training to take his place. Forgot his name though.

Small posts??? What small posts :rolleyes1 Yup...guilty as charged :lmao:

Wow! Like Debbie said, family is very important. So, if I could only get to see my parents one to two times a year I would take the opportunity to do so if that meant canceling the trip. But, first I would talk to them. I would find out if it is imprtant to them for all of the kids and grandkids to be together with them or would they be upset if they spent time with you and your children separately. Like Debbie, I would see if I could spend time with them prior to leaving for the cruise (if feasible). Or, I would see if I could make a special summer trip to visit them before or take the October trip to visit them after the cruise.

Let us know what you decide.

Good Morning!

Mickeyphile - boy what a decision that is to make. I guess I would be sure to tell my parents that you booked this cruise clear last November, before their plans were made, and that it is a very special cruise that only happens once a year. I was wondering though, did your sister know that you already had plans for that weekend? :confused3 I know how important being together as a family is, especially the older we get, but, what about your family. I guess you need to do what is important to you and your family.

Good Luck with your decision! :goodvibes

Ok so everyone put down their sharp objects. I will be the devils advocate in this discussion. Don't hate me. I would say that I would go on the cruise. Here is why. Because this is such a special cruise and very tough to get on I would think that your family would understand a prior commitment as special as this. I am not saying family is not special because they are but in my opinion it is a little selfish (I am assuming here) to make plans without asking everyone involved if there was something going on that weekend. From what you have said your parents and some siblings made the plans. I have told all my family because my Dw and I are so excited we have been driving everyone crazy with our plans. I just find it odd that they did not take into account your plans. I guess you have to ask yourself if you will be able to go on the cruise and enjoy yourself or feel guilty but the opposite is true as well will you be able to go to the gathering and not hold a grudge against them for changing your plans. :scared1: Whew so far no daggers in my back!

Hey thanks to everyone for the B-day wishes. Funny I had to go back to work to get free time to get on the board. Crazy schedules at home with baseball and yardwork and confirmation.......

Have a great week!

Scott

:rotfl: I agree with you 100%!!!

Mickeyphile, if it were me in your shoes, I would point out to my family that no one consulted me with regards to available dates for a family gathering and just sprung it on me last week. I would tell my family that I have already booked a very special crusie that only sails once per year, sells out the same day it opens to book, I was on hold FOREVER after immediately dialing in at 9am last November to book this cruise and had to pay in full once I was lucky enough to snag a cabin! I would tell them that I am sure if everyone brainstorms together we can come up with another date that will allow everyone to attend the family gathering. Or, I would make arrangements to see my parents with kids on a different date either before or after the cruise.

Good luck with your decision
Terrie :)

Thank you to all those who read my post and have offered their advice. I must clarify the family situation. My family celebrates religious holidays according to the lunar calendar. So we usually do not know the exact dates until closer to the holiday. Also, since the rest of the US operates on the Gregorian calendar we don't always plan on getting together to celebrate due to work and school schedules. On top of that, my parents spend part of the year abroad so we did not know they would be here this fall. Now that we know they are coming and that our holiday will be on September 9 or 10, my sister is hosting a get together for those that can make it. So she was not being disrespectful to us by planning for that weekend. I was just feeling bad that I would not be there. I called DVC today and learnt that if we cancel then I could use those points to book a four day cruise on Halloween. So dear friends please share your insight on regular vs. dVC cruise and also if anyone has been on the cruise at Halloween please share your experience.

Thank you once again for your support. You guys are great.

I have never been on a Halloween cruise but i can share some of the differences between a regualr cruise and a DVC cruise. As you already mentioned, the DVC cruise will be filled with predominantly DVC members. It is a charter cruise so your tips are included in the cost. You will receive gifts each day for each person in the stateroom. There are special guests. You will not know who they are until you board. There is a theme but I think the theme will be Disney Inspirations again this year. And, of course, there are DVC touches everywhere - from food to decorations. If you are thinking about purchasing more points, then the DVC cruise offers some fabulous incentives.
