09/08/07 Early Check in September 8, 2007 Western

Oh me, oh my! I have yet another prayer request, this time for Kevin. We believe he has an umbilical hernia that needs surgery, SOON. I called our Resident Nurse ((my mom) and she says take it easy for a few days and see a doctor as soon as possible (Monday in sacramento). He is in a bit of pain, so send prayers our way. I hate to be a whiner, but what else could possibly go wrong? (Hopefully nothing else) I'll spare you the details of the umbilical hernia. Google it or WebMD it if you want more info.
Nanny is doing much better, she went to the doctor today and he changed her bp medicine. Her bp went as low as 40/50  That is insanely scary.
I have been running worst case scenarios about this hernia thing. My mom says if its not too bad he can have laposcopic surgery and recover in 4 or 5 days. The old fashioned surgery (which he has already had once before) had a recovery time of 6 weeks. If it is bad enough to have the major surgery, we may have to cancel this cruise. That is the LAST thing I would ever want to do but if I have to I guess I'll have to put my big girl pants on and suck it up. Aaaaargh!?! Hey, maybe we can schedule this for the end of august and he can recover on the cruise! Is there a doctor cruising with us? Anyway, just making jokes to relieve the stress a bit! How is everyone elses day?

You have our prayers. Please keep us posted on how he is doing? I will keep positive thought that all will work out. I do know how scary these situation can be. Take care. We all understand that family comes first.

PIT...
Our prayers are with you and Kevin!:grouphug:

Dh went thru the old fashion surgery a few years ago. 3 in 9 months. And he's and old wimp:lmao: The first few weeks are the toughest. No lifting of ANYTHING! Just sore and some pain but not too much that light pain meds wont handle.

Kevin wil be good as new.. just you wait and see.:thumbsup2

O.k. i have a question.
I get to book my excurssions on the 25th. (Monday) My question is, do I have to get up on Sunday/Monday morning at 3:00a.m. to book them? What's the deal about this 3:00a.m. to book excurssions, I have read it in many places that people got up to book their stuff then. So should I get up and book it then? And booking is done online right? DO we pay for it then as we book stuff? Sorry I guess I had more than 1 question. We're down to the wire for the big excurssion bookings, I'm nervous! haha

TinkerbellTris, to answer your question, it's not so much the excursions that fill up, it's the Palo reservations which have limited slots. That's what everyone is competing for! When we could book at the 90 day mark for this trip (because we are Castaway Club members) I had my DP get up at 3 am  to book our Palo ressies. 3 a.m. EASTERN STANDARD TIME is when all of us on the east coast are eligible to book. Midnight WST. So if you are on the East Coast and you really want to get your Palo ressies I'd book them as early as possible on your eligible booking day. For me, I was very specific about what days and times I wanted so it was worth the hustle. But I remember on our last cruise we booked 1 of our Palo ressies in advance and we weren't able to get the other one. There is a window of about an hour when you board the ship where you can scramble for another booking. We did that and ended up getting our second Palo ressie (this was in '05) but it was a real hustle. We had to get to the port early, make sure we were in line early and then as soon as we boarded I made the mad rush to Rockin Bar D to get in the ressie line. However I was never able to get a tea ressie for that cruise. They were completely booked up. I'm glad I don't have to do that this year. But just so you know it is an option. I've also read on other threads in the cruise boards that some people take advantage of cancellations, that if you call during the week Palo may have open slots you can take. So there's a third option.

It all depends on how serious you are about your Palo ressies. And if this is your first time cruising, trust me, you WANT to eat at Palo! In my humble opinion, the best meal they serve there is brunch.

As for excursions, I will book my ahead but I know that they won't be filled up, I recall on our last cruise that there were lots of slots open on excursions. However, if you need an excursion at a specific TIME that would be a reason to book early online. For example, this year I prebooked our Island Tour and Stingray Snorkel because I really wanted to get in the the 9:15am group. It is my understanding (from my travel agent) that your credit card/shipboard account is charged when you book your excursion. However, you can cancel with no penalty up to 48 hours before sailing. After that you will be charged whether you attend or not.

Good luck!

Hi Ann...

You are so right. We are getting so clost to the cruise I can almost smell the ship now!:rotfl: :lmao: :rotfl:

I think getting everything done at MCO on Saturday morning sounds wonderful... nope "Magic"ial.

Is anyone packing yet???

Barecuda,
We're unpacking. Does that count? Just back from our cruise about 6 hours ago. The washing machine is going full force.

PrettyinPink,
Good luck to your husband. I have the same thing but so far I have avoided surgery.

Bill

Thanks for all of the warm wishes and thoughts for Kevin.
We are on our way to California, then headed home. We will be home by Wednight/ThursAM and Kevin has a CT scan scheduled for 3pm (gotta love our PPO, cuts out the referrals). Once they confirm what we already know, he will have the surgery Friday
morning we hope. I will probley be posting like crazy from the waiting room I'll be so nervous. My mom works at the hospital where he will be so hopefully she can calm my nerves a bit. Hospitals and needles and surgery and pain makes me really nervous.
I know he'll be fine. Amber and ALex are driving up as well. I told them its no biggie but they want to be there. Plus Alex is coming to get his truck. I am hoping they just let Kev have the surgery and go home same day. My mom works on the recovery floor of the hospital nd says if all goes right he'll be home same day. Then I guess we will curl up and watch movies all weekend.
Funny story though, my mom (a nurse) was talking to Kevin about what would happen during the surgery. He broke in (with out thinking) and asked if the doctor could go ahead and give him a snip while he was in there (he plans on getting a vascectomy soon). My mom said 'Sure, but if I were you I'd leave that to the Urologist and not the GastroDoctor.' My dh must have been having a blonde moment but we all got a kick out of it.

Welcome back to the real world!
Hope you all had a great vacation!:thumbsup2

Tonight I make the last of the ressies:banana: It's driving me nuts... every Saturday night staying up till midnight waiting for that little box to light up that says..." Ok... now spend more money!":lmao:

Looks right at least for us. Are we going to have enough to make the order with the 3 cruises?

Thanks for all of the warm wishes and thoughts for Kevin.

I will keep both of you in my prayers. What he was asking is do able. I had my gallbladder out and my tubes tied in the same day. They just made the cut larger. If he could find a docter who was available to do the procedure then he would only need to be put under that one time.

I will never understand why I could not make my sisters ressie when I made mine. So I too will be up trying to make ressies tonight. I just hope the system works better this time than it did when I made them on the 10th. It took me hours to get my ressies made.

I have attempted to update the different list. Please check and see if I have it right. If you want to go to lunch breakfast or buy leis please let me know and I will add you to the list. The time is coming soon.

Well while I was away on my cruise AirTran threw a big monkey wrench into my plans. They changed my flight times and not for the better. I was flying at good times, direct flights both ways. Now they changed my return flight to about 6pm with a stopover of 45 minutes in Atlanta.

On my flight down we were supposed to leave at 11:50am and now they have us leaving at 6pm.

Does anybody here that flies a lot know if I have any options in dealing with these changes. I am not pleased at all.

HELP!

Bill

Lois,
We've made the min. on the wristbands!:cool1: I'll wait till the first of July then order... perhaps a few more for any late check-ins.:thumbsup2

As far as I know, you can't make your sisters ressies till tonight. She is a first time cruiser right? I booked our DD and DSIL's bike ride in Cozumel because I didn't want them to miss out on that one. I'll change it later to their name and add our at that time.I know it a bit confussing but.... it's worth it right now.

Bill...:headache: So Sorry you are having such a problem with the air.
Now if you want to talk plane problems... that's another story!:headache:

Bill ,call the airlines and talk with them. If they have changed your flight times they will rearrange them if they have a flight that is better suited to you. I have needed to do that once already. I hope that works out for you.

Lois,

Thanks. I called and it was much easier than I anticipated. I thought for sure they were going to try to charge me more money but they didn't and now have better times and direct flights again.

Got all worked up for nothing.

Thanks again

Bill

I am glad that it worked out. Just a heads up unless that direct flight stays book up it may not be available come cruise time. We had direct flights last year and by the time we were to fly they were no longer even an option. I hope your remain. But they will always adjust filght times when they are the ones who made the change.
