08/08/07 Well, Olbia Monkey's Uncle! We're cruisin' on the 10nt Med Cruise!

Hi Donna,

Just wanted to double check with you that there are 19 families participating in the gift exchanges? Also, I have never used a calling card before. Could you buy a card from the U.S. and use it in Europe? Sorry for my ignorance.

Clueless

Yes. I have heard it is less expensive to buy phone cards at tobacco stores in Europe. Travelex, with locations at SFO (and all over US and Europe), also sells international phone cards.

Jocelyne - Hope you have a safe trip!

How exciting that we have folks leaving already!

I need to pack! We still haven't gotten any euros. I want to get at least a few before we leave home. Anyone remember if they take traveler's checks or personal checks on the ship to get euros? I know they don't take credit cards.
I want a backup plan in case neither of our cards don't work in the ATMs in Europe.

Have a great day everyone!

There are 19 families, 26 staterooms, and 85 people.

Do you think it will be a little difficult to get Euros?
Is everyone bringing some with them from the US?

We are taking a few with us and are planning on using ATM machines. We are fortunate in that our bank reimburses all fees charged by other banks and does not charge us a fee to use any ATM around the world.

Thanks Donna for the clarification. We are also bringing some Euros with us and two ATM cards just in case one does not work. We could always exchange on board with Disney but the rate is not as good. It's time to start scanning in all of our documents, keep on a small USB drive (bring with us on the trip) and email a folder with all the important information to ourselves. It's getting close.

We are going to be getting some Euro at the Airport in Chicago. Our Bank does not order European Currancy anymore. We have a longer lay over there and my husband knows where to do and get some and then we are going to be getting more on the ship.
I am so excited we leave in 10Days. I can't believe it is here. We have been planning for so long that it almost doesn't feel real yet
:disrocks:

We got a tip pack from AAA, basically about 65 E in small bills. Then we got some Euros from our bank. We have 3 private tours, and 2 only take Euro cash, so didn't want to wait til we got to Europe to get all we need. We'll use the ATM's for the rest.

Does anyone know if people were able to book dinner at Palo when they got on the ship ?

Tips...can you charge these to your KTTW card ? If you want to add more, can you also add that using your KTTW card ? :confused3

I'm looking forward to meeting everyone. It'll be fun to get the kids together, too. :grouphug:

I think this is a wonderful idea that I may steal from you. I am also going to make hard copies as well.

You can charge the tips to your KTTW and make them any amount you wish.

I haven't read anything about booking Palo on the ship in any of the posts from the previus cruises.

I agree this is a great idea that I think I will use as well!!

Which documents do you scan?

I scan our passports, driver licenses, airplane tickets, hotel reservations, ATM/credit cards (be sure to scan the back of the cards because some places will need the 3-digit number in the back) and their appropriate phone numbers to call if lost. In other words, scan any document you think is important. In addition, I'll have hard copies of these documents as well in the event I am not near a computer. I am just applying tips learned from previous experienced cruisers. One cruiser recommended to put a piece of paper inside each luggage with all the pertinent info such as hotels we are staying, DCL cruise to make it easier to track us. There were approximately 200 pieces of luggage lost in each of two recent cruises to the med according to the Dis forum. Although this figure may seem small relative to the number of passengers, it would not make our day if our luggage is lost. I hope this would not happen to any of us.

Thanks so much. I think this is all great advice! :thumbsup2

I really like that idea and this is the first I've heard of it! Thanks so much!

I still have to bug DH to get some euros ordered from his bank!!! Why does he have to wait until the last minute for everything! He'll be the one trying to pack when I want to put suitcases in the car to drive to the airport!

Ok, so like, what should we copy & where should we keep it -
Forgive me - I've already gone on a beach brain!

Does anyone know the MENU/Night Order for the 10 day?

I can find the menus- I'm just wondering the order of events!

I just checked my resi on disney cruise website and found that they changed my dinner time to Main dining. This now messes up our spa treatments that we have throughout the cruise. You may want to check to see if this has this happened to any of you as well. I will call them tomorrow. We have always had late dining so we could site see more.

As a helpful idea for those wanting more drawer space, I picked up the hanging closet sweater shelves (they fold flat and can be hung from the closet rod) (they are sold in the same isle as the shoe racks) We have a Cat 11 and are going to need it as there is no trunk to store clothes in.

Go figure, they change our seating but don't upgrade our Cat. Didn't want early dining but would love an upgrade to a 10. But at least we will be on the cruise.

OH....I should have told you it is also $6.95 a MINUTE wheather you call them or they call you! :sad2:

Now that they have added cell phone coverage on the ship, it would be cheaper to call a cell phone. It looks like it is $2.49 a minute for the cell phones for most of the providers and $6.95 a minute for the ship to shore.
