08/08/07 Well, Olbia Monkey's Uncle! We're cruisin' on the 10nt Med Cruise!

We are!! It's me and my DS (Bryan, 12). We're in room 7124 ... and we're also booked for the Westbound Transatlantic after this one!

Jackie
:yay: Booked today and added the 10-night Med Cruise sailing of 8th August 2007 in a Cat 5 Guaranteed (waitlisted for a Cat 3) to our existing cruise bookings for summer 2007 .....
We're on the 11-night Med Cruise sailing on the 28th July 2007 in a Cat 3 (celebrating DD's :cake: 21st Birthday aboard) and also on the Trans-Atlantic Westbound Repo Cruise sailing on the 18th August 2007 in a Cat 3 (celebrating our  25th Wedding Anniversary aboard).
We were planning on spending the 10 night's between the two cruises in Barcelona but decided to stay onboard and use the 10-night cruise to celebrate our DD's July College Graduation (UK University).
DCL was amazed and said it's a record - we will be aboard the Disney Magic for 35 consecutive days (28th July to 1st September 2007)!!!
We are soooo excited :yay:

It's all once in a life time events - so we're planning on just enjoying it all and trying not to worry too much about the possible extra weight gain etc.

kugalbelle....WELCOME !! What you are doing is wonderful ! You only go around once ! I would LOVE to do the same, but can't leave my Cavaliers that long !

I keep reading the other threads ,hoping to see a trip report from those already over there. But, I'm sure they are very busy !! I'm still confused about what I need for my hairdryer, battery chargers, etc while in Barcelona. If anyone knows, I'd love to hear. Thanks ! GINA :grouphug:

Guess I was a little vague...I'm talking about adaptors for the elec outlets.:confused3

Gina,
We can't believe what we're doing either.
As to hairdryer etc. We lived in the UK for 10 years beforemoving to the USA and traveled threw out most of Europe. You hairdryer from the USA will not work in Europe the Voltage is different. Check battery charges as most cell phones, videa camera's etc now days can use both 110V and 240V all you would probably need are adapters. I usaually take my UK hairdryer with me when we travel in Europe but since we're on the ship the whole vacation bar 1 night, I'm taking my USA hairdryer and making do with the hotel one for the one night. You could look at buying an inexpensive European hairdryer to use while in Barcelona or perhaps a transformer, only problem with some transformers are that they are pretty bulky.
Hope this helps
Charmaine

Charmaine...thanks for the tip. We are staying at the Hilton in Barcelona so I think I'll call and see if they have hairdryers in the rooms. I'll check on our chargers. How in the world do you pack for three cruises ? I've made two packing lists already and thrown them both out !

What is everyone doing for formal night ? :grouphug: GINA

kugalbelle - I will add you to the list of cruisers and welcome.

Gina - You can buy a travel hair dryer at Target that is dual voltage for about $20. You can also buy the converter plugs and a voltage converter as a kit at Radio Shack. The kit should have instructions for use included. Target has just the plug converters. We travel abroad quite a bit and I have never burned anything up using the voltage converter and my dual voltage hair dryer and iron.

Wow is all I can say 35 days on the magic I am soo jealous.

For formal night I am bringing an old brides maid Dress that I have it's not huge formal but a little more that semi formal. I figure we are going all out on the cruise making it a vacation of a lifetime. When not get all gussied up as my dad would say. I like to get dressed up sometimes. :cutie:

WOW, Kugalbelle, 35 days of relaxation on the Magic!!! I thought we were on the ship a long time with our 24 days back to back. I think packing would be so much easier for that then what we are doing. You will have access to laundry the whole trip.
We are flying into Paris July 14th for 5 days(yes, of course, we will do Disneyland Paris)Then we are taking the train to Madrid (overnight) and doing a Globus tour of Spain, Portugal and Morroco. We take another train to Barcelona and are in Barcelona a few days before our 10 day Med cruise. I have to pack for myself, my DH and our 3 DDS (9, 10, 11). That should be interesting since the Globus tour has a limit of one large suitcase and 1 carryon per person. (I know that is 5 large suitcases - but this is for almost 50 days!!! plus souvenirs!) They have been flexible with some others on a previous tour I took. I would like to take at least my garment bag as extra for dressier clothes.
We will be celebrating our wedding anniversary on Aug 7th and my inlaws' on Aug 10th and my daughter's 12th birthday on the 18th.
We were waitlisted on both cruises for cat 3s. The transatlantic came through but we are still hoping for this one.
I hope to see everyone at the dismeet on the first sea day or or one of the excursions. We have early dinner seating. I cannot wait!!!!!!!!

I picked up one of these today, hoping to make it more difficult for the pickpockets. I picked it up at our local REI store and am very happy with it. It is made by Pac Safe. They have purses, day bags, and much more.

This one has the following:
Stashsafe 100 is an anti-theft hip pack with eXomesh® Slashguard front and bottom panels, a slashproof and lockable belt, lockable zippers and the unique ability to lock to secure fixtures. The StashSafe 100 has 3 zippered pockets packed with clever internal organisation, as well as a padded, breathable backing for maximum comfort.

anti-theft features specifications
  1. Tamperproof lockable zippers
  2. Concealed buckle
  3. Slashproof adjustable belt
  4. Snatchproof belt not only anchors the bag to a secure fixture but locks it there as well
  5. eXomesh® Slashguard in front and bottom panels
additional features
  • 2 main zippered organisational compartments
  • Rear zippered pocket
  • Key clip
  • Comfortable breathable padded mesh backing

We have been planning all along to get the PacSafe StashSafe, too! Our local REI was out of stock and so I did a little snooping on the internet for another store to walk-in to buy them at (I want to see it first that's why I didn't just buy over the internet).

Erehwon (nowhere spelled backwards) carries the StashSafe 100 AND they are awaiting the all new StashSafe 200 that is bigger than the 100. I want to see these side-by-side and make a decision on which one would be best for myself, DH & 10yo DD. We will probably end up with the 200's for me & DH and a 100 for DD. They were supposed to have them in at the beginning of April (per corporate), but local store didn't have them yet on 4/12 when I called. Thanx for reminding m to call again! I'd love to check this off my endless list!

DH and I are using an under cover money belt/case. We purchased them on Amazon last year for our European trip. I liked them since they are lightweight and can be esily worn under your clothes. They were not at all uncomfortable and pickpocketers did not know they were there. It held my cash, cards and passport.
If you go to Amazon and click on accessories, then click on luggage, a photo of one comes up with other bags.

Oh my, my .... what a wonderful vacation you are going to have - 50 days of travelling!!!!!!!!!
We had originally booked the 11-night Med Cat 3 and Transatlantic Cat 3 as our actual celebration days were on those specific cruises (same stateroom fro both). Our DD's 21st on Aug 1st and our 25th Wedding Anniversary on Aug 20th.
We then looked at alternative's for the 10-night's inbetween from frying back to the USA to spending time travelling in Europe. The European Airlines are crazy with thei baggage rules - we were told that we would be able to put 2 bags eachon in the USA but when we left Barcelona to a European destination we would only be allowed 1 each - and that on the same ticket!!!! We then decided to stay in Barcelona for the 10-nights. DCL were unable to help with 10 nights hotel they could only do 3 post and 3 pre-cruise nights. Managed to book a hotel in Barcelona but after looking at the cost's involved when one adds food, transfers etc. we decided to book the 10-night Cat 5 (best that was available - wiatlisted for a Cat 3 too) and stay aboard.
DD (20/21) is graduating from college Jul 18th in London and we had planned on celebrating that with her 21st on the 11-night, but since we're on another cruise we've decided to move that celebrating to the 10-night.
So we have 2 European trips this July .... we fly out Jul 16th to London for her graduation on Jul 18th, back to the USA on Jul 20th. Then leave for the cruise on Jul 26th, overnight in Barcelona, embark on the 11-night on Jul 28th and stay aboard till Sep 1st in Port Canaveral.
You mentioned that you were waitlisted for a Cat 3 on the Transatlantic! When were you notified about your waitlist being confirmed? We're not holding our breaths for the Cat 3 - but it would really be great to stay in a Cat 3 for the duration.
Charmaine

Our DD who's turning 21 on the 11-night prior to this cruise absolutely loves all the dressing up for the formal and semi-formal evenings. Even though she's busy stressing with finals etc (finishes College/University on Jun 22nd and graduates on Jul 18th) she called us this evening to say that she's been thinking about the cruises and already know's what she'll be wearing for the total of 8 dress-up evenings.:)

Kugalbelle,
We were placed on the waitlist for both cruises when we reserved the cruises last year as soon as they were first announced. We are still waiting on the 10 day but we were notified last Tuesday for the transatlantic. We upgraded immediately and paid in full the next day so I could reserve excursions before the 90 day for castaway members. I still have to get up at 3am tonight to take care of my in-laws excursions and Palo.

Does anyone have an idea as to how many young adults are aboard around our DD's age - turning 21 on the 11-night prior to this cruise. She loved the Teen-club when she was younger and felt very disappointed after she turned 18 and had nothing available to meet other's her age. We were on the Eastbound Panama and after mentioning the situation to the Cruise Director, he discussed the situation with her and the 'College Club" a venue and time for 18-25's to meet was born ..... wonder if it's still going. As this is her celebration cruise we'd really like to make sure she has a good time!

I remember the Magic Holiday cruise this past December had some "young singles" activities. I do not recall a "College Club" specifically but then again, I wasn't looking! Our activities are usually for DDs (9, 10 11)!

Thanks for that - I'll look online to see is there are any recent Navigators posted.
