We hope to do the Walt Disney Family Museum, Alcatraz and Muir Woods. As well as ride a cable car, see Lombard street, Golden Gate Bridge, maybe visit Fisherman's Wharf and see Ghiradelli Square. I don't think we have enough time in San Francisco.
Does anyone know a way to get to the WD family museum and Muir Woods? Or have any suggestions on how to get there?
Ironically enough i've just been off and on searching for info, maps, directions, etc to WD family museum. It was quite the endeavor considering it took me forever to even find where Disney would be docking at SF LOL It's not as easy to find when the ship is only there for a port of call instead of cruising from that port! haha
From what I've found- on the SF port website- it says cruise ships dock at pier 35 alongside Fisherman's Wharf on Embardicardo or something like that (probably not spelled right LOL) But I found it on the map- and it's 3.3 miles/11min to WDFM.
Okay... I'll tell, but don't steal 'em all from me. We want to go to Alcatraz as it is on DH's bucket list! But we have a DD10 (turning 11 in San Fransisco) so we CANNOT do the adult only departure and hope the other one has not filled up.
In Victoria we want to rent a carriage. DD loves horses.
You can laugh all you want, but I can't go on the sea-life watching boat out of Victoria... they listed the possible animals and I had an instant vision of a pod of Orca Killer Whales throwing around seals before eating them... that is just what would happen if I was on the boat too! Then I would have to give my daughter Valium the rest of her life. No thanks.
haha
well here's the thing- we have a DISfriend that has offered (quite some time ago and hasn't changed her mind! She's awesome that way LOL) to hang with us in SF and so I started looking into it and you know what? It's a hecka lot cheaper to do it on your own. Even if you had to take public transportation. For instance the WDFM was $129 per person- above age 9- which for us would be times 5 people. That's $645! To book it on our own would be $76.... seriously... I'm not joking.
It's similar when looking at alcatraz- save a ton for us to do it on our own and not thru
DCL. And I figure why not- if we do those two things on Friday- it's not like we have to be worried about making it back on the ship... the next day! LOL
What's interesting is that so far in Victoria only the carriage interests us as well.... we might be fighting over that one. sorry LOL Hopefully we both get it.
The WDFM is about a $10 cab ride from the port. You are best taking an excursion to Muir Woods it is north of SF acrossed to GG Bridge.
We will be docked right at Fisherman's Warf and it is a short walk to Ghiradellie Square. You could do the Warf, the WDM and GS all on the second day and take the trip to Muir Woods our first day in port.
Does anyone know what pier we will be docking at or how to find out. My BFF who works in SF said that if there is more than one cruise ship in port the second one is further away from FW closer to AT&T ballpark.
Those of you staying up I hope you get the excursions you want. Sue
$10 cab ride huh? so even if we don't have friend taking us that day- and even if we had to get 2 cabs for our family of 5- it would still be only $96 vs. DCL $645... still a HUGE no brainer. haha
Thanks for that info!
For now I'm thinking we want to do WDFM and alcatraz- I'm not sure which day/which order.
Ohhh so we might dock further away.
well maybe we'll get the closer one since we'll be there for 2 days.
does anyone know how that works when a ship stays at port of call over night like that? Can you get on/off the ship anytime you want or is there time limits like how late you can board that night? I'm assuming no matter what time you returned they'd let you on.... LOL But what about how early you can leave in the morning? Is it just the entire time you're at the port day or night you're allowed to get off/on?
What time can we start booking? Is it midnight so 11pm CST? It's been so long since I've booked excursions online.. like since 2008... so I forget exactly.
