04/27/11 DCL's WONDERful LA-VANCOUVER REPO ON THE WAY TO ALAKSA

Wow! Rates across the country for $200! Wish I could find those. One thing I've found is to clear your cookies before you search each time at the same sites - somehow the system remembers you and gives you higher prices each time. Maybe so you'll assume prices are going up and purchase quickly?:confused3

I was looking at flights yesterday to LAX / from YVR. Have to wait about another week for the 330 limit on the return.

Anyone else thinking that far ahead?

Hi! Yes, just looking this evening! We are hoping to be able to get free tickets with our FF miles and you really have to book pretty quick in order to get the lowest cost ones.

We are still a few days away from the return flights opening up since we are on the B2B.

DH still has to decide how many weeks of vacation he can take. The company gets a little testy if you take too much!

I want to get the trip plans roughed out and flights booked and then I will have to put this trip on the back burner until we get back from the WBTA. I can only think about 1 big trip at a time. :goodvibes

We are very excited about this trip! :woohoo:

We have our pre-cruise stay - family in Anaheim invited us to come and stay with them and they have some days off to play at DL or US or Medieval Times with us - we always have a great time with them!

We are doing B2B as well. I think I might pop up to Vancouver for a weekend this summer. The Fairmont at the airport had a cheap rate...I was thinking about it.

Then I was thinking about cash...I have a few Canadian pennies (who doesn't) but I don't think they will get me that far! I've never been to Canada...I know in Mexico most places in tourist zones take both dollars and pesos. Is Vancouver like that?

Seems strange to exchange basically one-for-one. Not like Euros...$10 to 1 ;) well...maybe not that bad...

We will be going to Seattle to catch a ferry to Poulsbo for a few days after the cruise. Still have to work that out.

I guess we still have time.

Hi All,
Been busy at work so haven't seen the boards much :surfweb:.

BUT!!! I booked our flights for the B2B about an hour ago :yay:, :woohoo:. :dance3:.
Depart DC (IAD) to Long Beach, CA. on the 23 April 2011(Easter weekend :littleangel:: for those of you who didn't know :scared1:, book early).
With a return departing Vancouver at 12:00 on the 10 of May 2011.
Was able to use FFM (Delta).
Have tenitive reservations at the Camalot Inn accross the street from DL
Did not want to use DVC points (since the went up) and $400.00 a night to sleep, just didn't seem worth it.
Have a nice day to all :flower3:,

Might I ask what you paid? I can't look until tomorrow. I think we'll overnight at the airport (YVR) Fairmont. Not that I'm booking right now.

I don't like that they only have RJ aircraft listed right now. In the SkyGuide for May of this year the YVR/MSP flights went from RJ to regular aircraft (A319/A320). I don't want to fly that far with little or no service considering we'll be in first. And I can't use my upgrade certificates on Alaska and I guess I will have to figure some things out. There is still time. :)

:thumbsup2 No problem,

I paid $109.00 per night for room (115 after taxes??)

I figure any plane that gets me from east to west coast with minimal arm flapping :rotfl: for 80,000 miles for two tickets is good enough for me :cloud9:...
160,000 points for 1st class (for 2), was out of the question :scared1:..

I was looking at options earlier. I think I might burn some miles for RT 1st. I can do nonstop on Alaska from DCA and then return via MSP I guess. I had 60,000 or below and that was DL platinum availability. I still have to do some research. I can always redeposit the tickets if I find something better...no fee for that for me.

Thanks for the info. :)

I booked this cruise awhile back, but was busy planning and going on the May 26th Med cruise, and wound up staying for the June 5th repo followed by a few nights in London after, so now I need a new cruise to start working on! :rotfl:
Haven't decided my traveling party yet, as it falls during school time and my DS 13 and DD 14 cannot miss during that week so will probably be a girls trip with my sisters! :cool1: Although I have 5 of them, so if they all want to come, someone willl need to book another cabin! ;)
I hope to do DL beforehand, and maybe Seattle afterwards. Just in the planning stages, and looking forward to meeting everyone!
Our last cruise, I coordinated Palo's private brunch and a DisMeet with gift exchange. Anyone planning those yet? Would love to be included in Palo's brunch - my all time favorite meal! :cloud9:

Popping by to say I've just booked our outward flights from London to LAX with Virgin Atlantic - gotta love those accumulated airmiles!!! :thumbsup2 Hoping to book the Vancouver to London leg with British Airways when they have a sale... ;)

So, the itinerary sees us arriving on Thursday April 21st and spending 6 nights in a GCV studio followed by the cruise... Cannot wait!!! :goodvibes

Hello All,
DW booked us on this cruise B2B while we were on the BCN to Dover.
First all I can say about the repo is....what a trip.
We now need a vacation from our vacation!!!
5 nights is BCN...7 night cruise...5 nights in southeastern England. Real introduction to World Cup. Brits really take football seriously!!!!
Lost of driving (wrong side):drive:... lots of castles lots of pubs, and Brighton WOW, what a ride!!!
Anyhow, back to the topic,
Sent PM to Bonzie1 for roster listing, thanks Georgie!
It will be great to see all of our old friends... and meet all of our new ones!

Most of the time, I will be lurking around, but you never know where we might post.

Shall we pack the long johns?

Hi all,

I joined this thread awhile back but got busy with other things.

Now I heard my friend Jackie is wanting more of us "Thieves" who are going to be active in the thread(s) so I am back. And hopefully I can contribute a bit more than I have in the past.

Being from British Columbia and having spent LOTS of time in Vancouver, I might be able to answer a few questions.

I did scan a couple of maps of Vancouver and posted them on my flickr site.

Here is one:

And here is another:

Larger Size

I may even have them larger but you would have to PM me for those if you are interested.

As anyone that has cruised with me before knows I do like to do up magnets and designs when the mood strikes me. Right now I am waiting to get an updated version of Photoshop elements (not sure if I should buy 8 or wait for 9) before I do anymore. But I did create a few back in September I posted here.

Anyhow, glad to see the list has grown magnificently. Now to get caught up on what I have missed.

Thanks for the maps. I think it's been talked about before, but what is the easiest way to get from Vancouver to Seattle (specifically, the ferry landing downtown). We are going to visit people in Seattle and then fly out of Sea-Tac.

Unfortunately that is one area I'm not good at. I will ask a few of my buddies who live in Vancouver and see what I get back.

Whenever I have gone to Seattle from Vancouver I have either driven or flown. Mainly driven. Considering it takes me 8 hours to get to Vancouver by car, another 3 hours to Seattle really isn't a big deal. And yes I said 8 hours and I only live in the middle of the Province - gives you an idea of how big our Province really is.

I have heard many like to take the train. The train station in Seattle is found in Pioneer Square (sorry no more info by me on that one). The train depot for Amtrak Cascades in Vancouver is found near Science World. You can see it on the map above (the wide one) if you look at the ad with the yellow bicycle on it - the train station is directly to the left of that ad. It is a relatively short cab ride, or you can take the skytrain (I don't advise the skytrain with luggage) from Canada Place.

There is the option to take a BC Ferry back to Victoria and then take the Victoria Clipper to Seattle, but that would take a lot of time and traveling from Canada Place to Tswassen to get the BC Ferry to Victoria is quite the distance as well.

The fourth choice (1=drive, 2=train, 3= ferry) is a Greyhound, but I am not a big fan of the bus so cannot recommend that one at all. I'd much rather rent a car and drive!

I guess the final option is a flight to Seattle and you can see if that meets your needs. Usually it is pretty expensive to fly from Vancouver to Seattle. Although you can find great seat sales from time to time.

Yensid 1222 and I will be joining you guys on this cruise. We were on repo from Barcelona to Dover and booked this while we were there. I am excited to sail on West Coast. I haven't been to San Francisco in over 20 years so I am excited to stop there also.
