04/27/11 DCL's WONDERful LA-VANCOUVER REPO ON THE WAY TO ALAKSA

We are docking at Pier 35 which is adjacent to Pier 39 (aka tourist trap :)).

I am taking our travel companions on our own excursion...they want to go to Muir Woods and then wherever else. I've spent more time in SF this year than I have FL. Granted, I haven't driven in the city in years, so that will be an adventure.

Thanks! That will be great. We can get a City Pass and ride the trolleys, trains and buses to get around.

When we were in SF last year we drove to Muir Woods. We paid the $75 for the GPS with our car rental -- it was worth every penney! :goodvibes

Was chatting about this trip with other B2Bers last night (Ian & Sukie) & am ready to start focusing on this new adventure :goodvibes Now that the EBTA is done (sniff, sniff) & since I'm not planning much for the Dream's Maiden Voyage (not planning on getting off the ship...too much to explore for a 4 night cruise).

BRING IT ON!!

Hopefully I can keep track of the 2 threads :thumbsup2

Only 2 threads? I'm trying to keep track of 6 threads! Note to self: don't book anymore Disney cruises.....:rotfl::rotfl:

Hi Linda!

Technically I have 5 for next year....but 2 are not until after these so are on the back burner!:lmao:

Soon it'll be time for us to start watching for flights/hotels for a visit to DL before the cruise. My 5yoDD is already asking when are we going!:lmao:

I might not be able to do any extra time...I keep booking cruises and I'm runing out of vacation days!!

Need to sit down with a calendar soon and map it out.

I went to Muir Woods when I was in SF in 2008, my mom and I made a joke that it was like death valley with the road to it:lmao::lmao:

I don't like places where you have to check yourself for ticks when you leave. It gives me the creeps! Maybe I will bring an umbrella!

I would like to just explore on our own, but I'm not sure about the transportation and how close the pier is to where we want to go:confused3

MUNI passes (city transit which covers the street cars (F train), the cable cars, busses, and MUNI light rail (underground and surface) are available but you can't purchase them online. Depending on what you are doing it is a money saver. The cable cars cost $5 one way so if you plan on doing that and will need other transportation it might be easier. I think you can buy an all-day, 1-day pass onboard a cable car. There are several other places in the city to buy them but none close to the port.

The F train goes all the way from the ports/Embarcadero to the Castro...it stops pretty close if not just outside of the where we dock. The street cars are cool because they are all different...refurbished from other cities all over the world.

Also, here's a link with some transit/getting around info: http://www.onlyinsanfrancisco.com/information/faq.asp

the car ride to the place was death valley, some of the time it looked like you would go off the road, that's what got us, it was packed the day we went and couldn't find a place to park, the ride to the place well let's just say I closed my eyes:lmao:

Hi Everyone! We are now back from our WONDER cruise! It was waaaay too short, but soooo relaxing.

Pelican Plunge is now open! It looks great. Castaway Cay has lots of construction. The dock is being lengthened for the Dream. :goodvibes

Okay... on to LA! It's time to plan. Thanks for all of the great information. I will get some of the links up on our main page.

Hi Elaine... hope you're having a great cruise... you got internet service! Good to hear from you! :wizard:

Good Evening Cruisers!

I do believe this thread is more popular than the AK thread! All the talk about SF is getting me thinking about this cruise.

Have a great week all!
