04/27/11 DCL's WONDERful LA-VANCOUVER REPO ON THE WAY TO ALAKSA

A couple of notes...

Not to question DisneyPinDiva (who would dare do that?!) but for public transportation within SF you want a MUNI pass which is the bus, street cars (trains), cable cars (trolleys to the tourists), and the MUNI light rail (below ground and street level). BART is the subway system which wraps 1/2-3/4 around the bay for for the purposes of our cruise--unless your headed to say Berkley or something--you probably don't want BART you want MUNI.

Since we have 18 or so months to plan I'd be glad to answer questions or do some research. Say finding an appropriate bar. :) We live on the east coast but visit SF as much as possible. I was there over Labor Day weekend and we'll be there in less than a week again. Haven't booked any weekends for next year yet (Phoenix was super cheap today!).

I will confess that we don't tourist too much...meaning Pier 39 and Ghirardelli are not on our list (not that there's anything wrong with that!). I mean hey Musee Mecanique in at Pier 45 which is in the middle of all that and I love the Musee.

There is so much to see and do...it will be strange just stopping by for a night but at least it's a Friday, woo hoo! I could be out of booze by the time we reach SF...I mean that is like what, day 3? :) Time to stock up! Oh and the Farmer's Market is on Saturday...not that we need food on the ship, but it's great!

I'm definitely going to have to go out and find that. Did you know they have it as an app for the iPhone/iPod touch as well?

Ken, the logo's you did look great!!!!

Thanks for the comment Emily. I actually worked on the name badge design for the Alaska Cruise today. I need to get a life.

I have both TSM and the iPod touch app. The app was worth the price!

Ken

Ken, I thought Disney cruises were our life!!!:lmao:

We're definitely going to get both at some point. I'll definitely get the app before our next trip to WDW in Nov. then I can be playing on the plane on the way there. Definitely puts you in the Disney spirit really quick.

I agree!! I love TSM on my iPhone... actually like it better than the Wii at this point!! Don't get me wrong.. I stiil like the Wii version too, but the iPhone app is easier to get going with! I"m better with my finger than I am with the Wii Remote...LOL :rotfl:

rcostello.... my mind is old and mush at this point so all I could remember was BART, You are now in charge of all SF info.... :lmao:

I like the idea of hiring a private van and driver for a wine tour too. :woohoo:

Also when it gets closer.... a bunch of us who might be staying at DL need to get together for a van to to the port. :car:

I know it's way far in advance for this stuff... but my mind races at night with this kind of stuff already!!!! :confused3
:rotfl2:

It's very KEWL! And when you are standing in front of the TSM attraction at The Studios, you are able to download special wallpapers for your phone. :thumbsup2

Really? You can do that? I had no idea...really. I mean, I was working the merch location for Toy Story and had nooooooooooo clue. Granted I was melting at the time, it was only 1000 degrees and the afternoon sun hits the whole store and there is no place to hide.

I'll check it out when I'm back there in a couple of weeks.

I hadn't even thought about that yet! Last time we went on the group bus (from DL to port for PC cruise last year) so I hadn't even looked into various options for transportation to port. LOL

Right back at ya, Brandi!!! Had an awesome waiter in the Prom Lounge on the Magic last week (Victor from Chile) who, once he discovered my love of flavoured fizz, kept bringing me little 'tasters' to tickle my tastebuds!!! :worship: Naturally he received an honourable mention on the comment card... ;) Oh and they were serving a new one on me at Palo's brunch - Midori and champagne, YUM!!! Plus it matched my lime green cardigan... Maybe that should be my 'thing' - clothes to coordinate with cocktails..? :lmao:

Wasn't Victor GREAT!: ::yes:: We so wanted to bring him home with us...and he had an honourable (well, honorable here in the U.S.) mention on our comment card too!

OK....caught me lurking on your thread. I'm SO SAD that the 'reverse' of this B2B is not an option! :sad2: What were they thinking not bringing the ship back to LA for dry dock there? (I know, probably $$) I mean, do you think people are going to do the Vancouver to LA then the next MR cruise? Well, perhaps, but it just feels WRONG. Although our northern neighbors may do it at as a lead-in to a DLR trip, I suppose. :confused3

That would be neighbours Jackie. ;)

Good Morning! Happy Saturday!

I can't wait for this cruise! :woohoo:

Transportation to the port from DL sounds great... we may have to charter a BUS!!! :thumbsup2

Right now, I show 5 families doing DL prior to the cruise!

Okay... off to my Saturday Walmart Run! :rotfl2:

Ken,

How very sad. You would think that by now you would have upgraded to English 2.0, but I see you insist on still running on version 1.5.

Oh well, I suppose there is some small consolation that at least your not running on version 1.0 like some people I know.

If we do the b2b (fingers crossed) I'm going to plan for DL. It only makes sense since we will be in LA and the cruise leaves in the middle of the week. Might as well leave on Sat. or Sun. and spend the first part of the week seeing DL, especially since we've never been before. Here's a good excuse to go.

Checked my reservations online yesterday on the Castaway Club future reservations portions just to see what kind of new and different things you could do with it and saw that the Alaskan portion of the B2B was showing a dollar amount due.

I had called DCL early on Thursday to place a courtesy hold (hold for 3 days, no deposit due) on a room for the Alaskan so that I could change the repo to have the same room. I thought it would be easier to talk to DCL directly to do that rather than have to communicate with DVC as an intermediary. (and besides DVC wasn't open yet!)

I then called DVC to transfer that courtesy hold to DVC points. No problem.

I did check my DVC member account on late Thursday night because I was checking to see if the waitlist had come thru for one day at AKL for Dec and it showed the cruise under future vacation plans. No problem.

Friday AM found that DCL had a dollar amount due under the reservation for Alaska. DVC reservations should show on the new website the same as any other "Travel Agent" reservations. Under the Payment information, it should only show the purchase date.

So what happened in my case is that someone didn't save the DVC payment into the DCL system. DCL was only showing the courtesy hold that I had.

Meaning that that hold would have expired and released my room into the pool for Monday bookings.

Not normally a huge deal, but by the time I had figured out that I didn't have a room for the Alaskan there may not have been a way to get the same room number for both cruises.

I would love to do DL beforehand, but with Passover still in swing that makes it virtually impossible. I would have liked to have squeezed in at least a day at DL. But on the other hand I'm relieved that it will be over in time for us to leave for LA.

Does that list include me and Jason at DL prior to the cruise? I don't recall that being something I emailed for the roster, but I did mention it here on the thread, I think. If we're not on that list, please add us. We will absolutely be coming to DL for at least 4 nights before the cruise.
