ª"˜˜ª¤.¸Team August 2013 Thread! (Part 2)¸.¤ª˜˜"ª&#9733

You, Gina are spot on! The Dr said the same thing. She didn't prescribe her anything for it though.
My DD sometimes wakes up with what looks like pinkeye (and not the same deep redness, but glassy or irritated looking), but it's not pinkeye. Our doctor called it allergies, even though I don't feel like she has any allergies. Either way, we give her over the counter antihistamine eye drops, and they do the trick every time!

Totally agree with allergies being bad right now. Ben has mild allergies. He woke up the other morning and sneezed at least 15 times before he left for school! He said his eyes hurt and he had a headache that night. The next morning it was gone. We don't medicate him as he really doesn't need it yet but I can't count how many times I was sure he was coming down with a cold and then it just disappeared.
Incidentally he sneezes a lot when we are in Florida too!

Oh.. and he seems to have had a mild cough since the Fall. I won't hear it for days.. then he coughs for a few days..then gone again. It has to be an irritant because he's never sick with it, just a few days of symptoms and then it's gone.

Hopefully some over the counter meds will fix her right up :thumbsup2 . I totally feel for her......allergies can be so awful! Before Jake was officially diagnosed a few years ago (and a proper treatment regimen established), his eyes would get so red and swollen he looked like someone had beaten him. We always worry a bit when we travel to Florida because we wonder what effect the difference in vegetation might have. Hugs to your little DD!

Ugh, sorry to hear about that. We've had some unplanned expenses come up as well (also to the tune of thousands of dollars), but we are pressing on! We've cut back this vacation as much as possible, so I am simply happy to be going at this point!

For those of you with unexpected bills and money woes.. just keep plugging along. I know how you feel. It felt like every time I was ready to make a payment something broke, or the cat got sick, or some unexpected bill was due. It was ridiculous for awhile there.

So don't lose hope. Just keep swimming as Dory says!:grouphug:

Well, if misery loves company, I'm in it with the rest of you today :rolleyes2 .

My wallet is a little lighter after a trip to our auto mechanic. "Bessy", my beloved '02 Alero, needed a new wheel bearing and hub assembly :worried: . We were kind of concerned that whatever was wrong with the old girl might have rendered her not worth fixing, so I guess the outcome was good all things considered....but it was rather discouraging nonetheless. Dang cars!!!! :furious:

ITA! I also refuse to go into to debt for vacations (as much as I love them). I would much rather make payments throughout the year then to come home and still owe Disney.

I am able to enjoy our trips so much more when it's all paid for before we go.:cool1:

Yup, that's our philosophy too ::yes:: .

We even price in a contingency fund to our overall budget to cover the unexpected stuff that might occur (nothing like prepping for a disaster on your vacation.....but yet, I do :scratchin) . If we don't end up needing it during our getaway, its the down payment for the next trip :thumbsup2 .

I feel for you on the repairs, but I'm glad she could at least be fixed! Our car has about 115K miles on it, and although we are expecting to keep it until 200k, we were wondering at what point it would just be easier to replace it. No need yet, but it's always at the back of our mind!

That's an interesting thought!

I had been wondering the same thing in the event we needed to cancel or change something. Personally, I wouldn't chance it. I've read that 45 days is the true cutoff before fees are assessed, but in the wonderful world of Disney, people have gotten different answers from different CM's. There was at least one thread where someone was told that online check-in starts the penalty clock, even if it is not your 45 day cutoff yet. Take it with a grain of salt, but I would hold tight. :)

Thanks, I'll just wait! Better safe than sorry.

That's one of the reasons I love Disney--because it can be customized for virtually any budget!

That is so true - and I wish more people realized it!! I have so many people that ask me how we can afford Disney every year because "it's so expensive". I try to tell them that you can go on a budget, but no one seems to believe that :confused3 On our first few vacations, we stayed at the value resorts and kept our totals under $2,000. Our latest vacations have become more pricey :rolleyes1, but that's our choice.

We invited both of our families to come and were told by quite a few how rude it was to expect people to have that kind of money. We just used part of our tax return so we feel like we're going for free :)
This is definitely a budget trip. Our next trip won't be until the kids are older so we'll splurge more then!

I think that's very smart. I remember a thread on here a few years back where a family got stuck in Orlando for some reason. They had saved forever for the trip, but I guess at the expense of their savings. They literally had no means to get home. This of course started a debate on vacationing without a back up plan, etc, etc (it was in true DIS fashion and spiraled out of control quickly). I don't recall the ending for the family, but it did stay in the back of my mind to always make sure I had funds above and beyond trip costs that were easily accessible while traveling.

People ask me all the time too! I mean granted there is only the two of us at the moment, but we try to keep hotel, flights, and tickets under $1200. Sometimes we can even keep it under $800 if we are staying at his parents condo in Kissimmee. But I always get the "You guys are going AGAIN?"

We also use our tax return to pay for vacation, and some years we can't take vacation because we have to use it for house repairs or whatever else life throws. But this plan works for us because we don't feel it. I had a friend not to long ago tell me that she was upset with me that I would spend so much money on going to Disney. She has no idea what I spend. It's not something I ever discuss with anyone. Like someone else said you can customize your trip to your budget. Some years it's cheaper than other years.
In the end my kids are going to remember the fun times not how much we spent or how many suveneirs they got. Even the waiting in line. We talk about all the people we've met just waiting in line.

I hate the "you're going again." Sometimes I will just tell people that we are going to Florida if they ask, just so I don't get that response.

Isn't that the truth. I think a lot of people just assume it's too expensive. It doesn't have to be. I know if some of the people who go to the beach every year added up ALL of their expenses, they could pay for a very nice Disney trip for the same amount.

This thread moves so dang fast!!! I haven't had time to read or post. I'm 38 days away from leaving for vacation--40 days from actually being at Disney World. I'm so excited and I really hope to see other DISers there. Its only happened a few times over the years, but I have a good feeling about this year!!

I was actually thinking about Josh last night, and wondering how he's doing (unless I've missed it....which is quite possible considering how fast things move on this thread :rotfl:....I haven't seen an update in a bit).

Any recent medical news or updates?

I do have some news, actually. We haven't been in the hospital since that last VERY lengthy stay. That, in itself, is wonderful. We did get news last week that the rejection was worse and they did some labs immediately. We got those results back and they were "the best" they've been since this odyssey began in March! I think the really bad ones were lab error. So, it's *possible* he could get the catheter out of his chest before Disney!! THAT would be AWESOME because then he could swim and go on water rides. In August, that would be a MUST!! So we keep holding out hope that rejection is on the run and that he will continue to get better!!

Thanks for all the prayers, happy thoughts, and pixie dust!!!

I'd love to join in :). This is my first time on the Aug board because we've always gone in Sept. but we added 2 days to our trip this year, so we're leaving in Aug. Instead of the usual 8 days, we figured it was going to take us 10 days this year haha!

Our dates are Aug 30-Sept 8, and we're going back to Pop this year after spending the last few trips at POR. Gotta go back to Pop if we're adding days and plans to our trip budget :).

Our ADR's:

8/30-T Rex at 3:30p

8/31-Mama Melrose at 5:10 (Fantasmic pkg)

9/1-Rainforest Cafe (AK) at 7:00p

9/2-Tutto Italia at 5:45p

9/3-Raglan Road at 5:45p

9/4-Kona Cafe at 6:25p

9/5-Be Our Guest at 6:35

9/6-Boma at 9:00a

9/7-Hoop Dee Doo at 6:15

As usual, we are counting down the hours and wishing away our summer so we can GET TO DISNEY WORLD ALREADY!!!
