This is Gixxer. He's a Shiba Inu, and we sometimes board him when we travel at a doggy day care/hotel, and sometimes he stays with my in-laws. We'll probably board him this trip. They charge $25 per night, so it's a decent deal.

ETA: And yes, he is wearing a pink tutu in this photo. He loves to play dress-up with DD.

We have a Boxer and a Shih Tzu. They stay with my parents. They are indoor dogs since we don't have a fenced yard, not that we would keep them out anyway if we did. My Dad does think they need to spend more time outside though when they stay with them. I will be getting them some nice gifts. I like the gift card idea.
Last time we left on vacation we were away for almost a month. The Shih Tzu got lost but he was found around a week later. I was so sad. He's my baby. When we got back that time he immediately knew who we were. The Boxer started to bark at us but once DH spoke she got so excited. We miss them and they miss us.

DD got a Guinea Pig in November as well. His name is Brownie. If it was up to her he would be going on the trip with us. He'll be keeping my parents company as well.

This is my girl: (sorry it's huge)

Here, when she was still very young, but not exactly kitten-sized:

And because I feel guilty now, a pic of my son and I at AK last year. :)

And now I must stop procrastinating and make more flashcards! Big exam tomorrow.

Gina, DH thinks Rajah is about 20lbs. We don't have a working scale. My legs fall asleep every evening while he cuddles on my lap.

So....some folks kind of touched on this in the budget QOTD a week or so back, but let's make this an official QOTD all on its own:

Do you have a pet (or pets) that require care during your trip?

Do you board them, have a neighbour watch over them, or take them to you parents house to be "babysat"?

Does it cost you anything, and if so, how much?

Do they care if you are gone (and are mad as heck when you get home?) or do they thoroughly enjoy the temporary accommodations with the kennel/dog-sitter/grandma/neighbour?

And if you are willing.....please post a pic so we can all admire your fur-baby (or I also suppose that could be a feather baby for those with birds :rotfl:).

This is Sophie

This is Lucy

We are lucky that my mom-in-law is willing to drive up and "dog-sit" for us. Our dogs have never been boarded, and knowing how spoiled and awful :rotfl2: they are for us, I can only imagine how they would be for strangers! Actually, Lucy was a pound rescue, and I don't think she would handle being with people she didn't know well. This won't cost us money. And they won't miss us at first, but they will go insane when we return!

I also love seeing all the pics this question has generated!

Congratulations on your pregnancy!! If you don't already have one, invest in a heart monitor and this way you will be able to safely workout without worrying. Just keep an eye on your heart rate. It's been a long time for me, but when I was pregnant the max was 140. I would ask your doctor though since things like that change all the time!

Thank you! We are excited about our new little one, but DH of course thinks we should cancel the trip since I"ll be pregnant. I told him not to make the pregnant lady angry! :furious: :rotfl:

I do have a heart monitor, which I've seen since we moved, just not in the last week or two. I will have to find the "safe" location it's in and put it to use! Thank you for the reminder!

QOTD!

Have you started a PTR? Are you going to do a TR?

:lmao: I can barely keep up with this thread, let alone a PTR!

We have two furbabies. A Chihuahua named Goliath and a lab mix named Shadow. They are precious and we love them! In the past they have stayed with my in-laws or with neighbors, but since we just moved they will have to be boarded. I am looking into places and it will likely cost me $35-$45/night for the two of them. Here are some pictures of them, which are probably really old because they were already on Photobucket, but they're just as cute at 6 and 7 as they were as little puppies!

Shadow:

Goliath:

The more I look at this picture of Goliath, the more misleading it is. He was so little then. Ok, one more:

Used to have a yellow lab retriever, but had to put him down 1.5 years ago...we miss him, but it's so nice to not have to vacuum up fur every few days and have to worry about where to board him when we're gone, etc.

We have a cat, and we are going to board him. It's not cheap but I feel better having him in an air conditioned kitty hotel than in our hot house waiting for someone to check in on him. He is still young and gets into trouble (climbing into the space between the floor boards and basement ceilings etc) so he needs supervision! I can't see how to post a photo on my iPhone. But Stanley is a cutie! ;)

I have no pets so this is something I don't need to worry about.

But I do have a QOTD:

As we are all getting very close to this point, will you be doing online check in? Why or why not? Personally I think I may just to make the trip seem to be closer then it actually is and the convenience may be worth it as well but I have never done it

Hello August DISers! I have been trying to stay away from my computer while I was studying for my PT licensure exam. I miss talking/reading about Disney and I'm happy to be back! :)

Our trips are so soon!!! I can't even stand the waiting anymore!

I am not sure of the benefits of online check in?

We used online check-in for the first time last trip. It was exciting to do before our trip, and nice to know that check-in at the hotel would be quick (and it was). We walked right up to the Online Check-in counter while other people were waiting in line to check-in. We gave our name, we were told a little about other resort, and we were given our room keys. That was it! We will definitely do it again.

I could use some opinions if anyone has a spare minute.
We'd like to spend some time at the beach on this trip. (Details.. we're staying at Bonnet Creek for 8 nights, not doing all Disney stuff because we'll be back for a surprise trip in December).

As it stands I could drop down to 5 nights at Bonnet Creek and then head about 2 hours over to Ana Maria Island for 3 nights. We would switch our flight to fly home out of Tampa (and right now there's a perfect flight that is cheaper so we'd have another credit for December).

OR
Stay at Bonnet Creek the whole time and do a few beach day trips. I'd prefer a Gulf Coast beach, but the Atlantic beaches would be much closer for a daytrip I think.

I can't decide if it's worth moving for 3 nights or just to leave things as they are, stay the 8 nights at Bonnet Creek and make some day trips. Any thoughts? Thank you:)

For our past 3 August trips we've always done on-line check in and we always arrive around noon.

We've never had any of our room requests met and our rooms have never been ready before 5....maybe because we have checked in on either a Saturday or Sunday when it's busier? I'm not sure.

Anyways we will be checking in on a Sunday this year so we will forgo online check in this year and hope for better luck with our room requests.

We always do online check-in, since it has made our check-ins quick and easy. We generally arrive around 10am and have almost always been able to get our room at that time, so we will be doing online check-in again this year. However, now you can check-in up to 60 days in advance (instead of 10), but I don't think we will check-in that early. I'd be concerned if we made any changes between the 60 and 45 day mark, so we'd probably check-in within 45 days of arrival. They also have other check-in capabilities as part of the NextGen (Magic Band/Fast Pass+) initiative:

Mobile Lobby Experience

Called 'Mobile Lobby Experience,' the system equips Cast Members with iPads and allows guests to be checked-in from locations other than the front desk. It is being used to quickly check-in guests from curbside or in the lobby area of the hotel. 'Mobile Lobby Experience' has the big advantage of being able to check-in guests very quickly on arrival at the hotel, without the need to join a queue or even find the lobby check-in desk.

I have also never done online check in. I'm not sure why, just never took advantage. But this trip I'm considering it. I think in the past you either couldn't make requests or I didn't know you could make requests. Since that's possible, I am thinking about it. Also, this is the first time since I can remember that I am coming in on a Sunday. I usually come in midweek and have never encountered the lines I read about here. Given that, I may try it out.

Here's my question though...we are doing a split stay. Would you check in for both or just one? I'm wondering if it will get confusing since the tickets are attached to the firs package and the second is room only.

You would check-in separately for each one. Since each portion will have different arrival dates, you will also have different online check-in dates.

Probably not. We've never done it before and have had good luck with our rooms being ready and our requests. I'm not sure I want to jinx that!

I think if you want West Coast beaches, I'd opt to go over to Ana Maria Island for the three nights. Will you have a rental car anyway? And I don't know if you are familiar with Tampa airport, but it's much easier to fly out of than Orlando! There are also great beaches in St. Pete's, which will be closer and would allow you to visit some Tampa attractions - you could take the trolley and go to the aquarium, etc.

A different option, if you are still wanting the Disney experience may be to see if you can rent points and stay at Vero Beach for those three nights.
