Ornaments -as several people have said - make great souvenirs. We do this for all traveling, not just Disney. It is so nice decorating our tree each Christmas - as we pull each ornament out, we get to remember the good times we had on each trip - it's a wonderful family tradition!

Ok - re-reading your post....I forgot you stressed affordable in terms of hotels. So maybe on the monorail is not what you are looking for. Anyway - there are moderate level hotels and also value leve as well. I have never stayed anywhere but Poly and Contemp....so I can't offer advice there...
