The What's For Dinner Thread - May '09(recipe index in OP)

Have a safe Memorial day! Thanks to all are Millitary and their families for their sacrifices to keep us all safe.

Nancy What does Buddy call laying around the house? I have trouble too just sitting doing nothing cause I fall asleep:rotfl:

Today I will just do a few things around here that I didn't get to yesterday. Like mowing the grass and washing the nose prints off the windows:rolleyes1. They are from my nosey dogs and from a cat who think he is a dog.

We are having ribs, corn, garlic bread and a chocolate truffle pie. I hope the rain holds off until after I grill.

Happy Memorial Day everyone!

And thank you for all the concern for Dad. I have spent most of the weekend with he and Mom which is why I haven't been on here. He began to feel really cruddy last night which is normal for the chemo and should feel equally cruddy today. Then it is the usual slow crawl back to feeling somewhat normal just before they zap you with it again.

However his attitude is wonderful! His hearing is still not-so-great and although he has worn a hearing aide for the last 8 or 9 years, I think it is time for another one. I asked him Saturday evening about something I was doing for him with the business. Specifically, I asked what his goal was. Since he has had all those years of poor hearing, he tends to answer the question as he thinks he hears it. He thought I was asking about the chemo and went on to tell me again about the scheduled scan in 2 to 3 weeks to gauge the effectiveness and then looked me right in my eyes and said with all seriousness "But my goal is to beat this thing."

The last week and a half when he started to feel more normal, he went to work every day. Some days he did not have the stamina to stay for very long and some days he made it for almost the entire day. But he told my mother that he was going as long as he could put one foot in front of the other.

I have no idea what we are having tonight. I had planned on burgers but it is supposed to rain all day today and into the night.

Gretchen, this brought a tear to my eyes. His attitude is fantastic and it does play a very big part in beating this thing.

I'm glad you have the opportunity to spend lots of time with him

I hope everyone has a safe Memorial Day weekend. This time last year, I lost a child in a horseback riding accident (I think I posted about it?). A few years earlier, we almost lost a teenager in a lake accident. I sorta dread holiday weekends due to the accidents that happen. How morbid am I? I need to call that momma who lost her baby girl last year and make sure she knows I'm thinking of her. Sweet Juliette...

In happier news, I have little planned today :yay: I am going to grill some burgers (boca burger for me), and I'm making pasta/veggie salad to go with it and probably some deviled eggs as a treat for DH. DH can have some chips with his if he wants.

DH wants to go buy a chair tonight... I'm torn on what color to get so we'll see what happens.

Today we celebrate the life we have because of the men and women that have served, those serving now and those that gave their lives for us.

Amen.

This was his idea of a lazy day :lmao:. He did a few things at the farm and then came home and weed whacked. I cleaned up the lawn furniture and watered all my plants. That is it for the two of us.

He was bummed out though. He was in the front yard and under the trees when two F-16's few down low just over the tree line. I think they were going to Westover, I saw them they were just so majestic! but he could not as they were so low. He loves military aircraft!

Your day is way more busy than mine!

You are making me cry, he is one amazing man!

My FIL went to work a lot while he was suffering from bone cancer. He was a mechanic at the construction company where Buddy worked. He had carried coworkers many times in his life there so the foreman asked Buddy what they could do to make his job easier. These guys wanted him to be able to come to work but they did not wnat him to "work". I think going there added so much to his life and his drive. I am glad to hear that your Dad continues to go to work as well, it means he is a fighter!

Have a safe day All!

Dinner is undecided:confused3BBL

Hey y'all,

We had a busy weekend ( for us anyway ) but DH is working today. It stormed this morning, so I hope that's all the rain we'll get. I'm going to grill some steaks for dinner.

Laura, I know y'all are having a good weekend. Give that hubby lots of food & tell him Thanks from all of us!

Gretchen, I'm so impressed with your Dad's attitude!

Becky, That cheese tray looks awesome!

Vickie, Prayers for a smooth surgery & quick recovery!

We had a really really good weekend! Although I did too much walking & I'm paying for it now, but it was totally worth it!

At the last minute, DH & I decided to go to the NOWFE grand tasting. It was really nice! My only complaint would be the food serving portions. It was very hard to eat enough food to keep from getting plastered. It was set up very nice and they ended with a parade with a local marching band, Mardi Gras Indians & mini-floats. Then they had a concert from Bonerama.

Sorry I don't have any pics, my batteries died on the 1st one I tried to get.

Still hungry when we left & finding gorgeous weather, we decided to hit the French Quarter in search of food.

Yesterday we went to church, ran into DD, SIL, Chris & Alexis. We went out to lunch, then came home to watch our recorded Indy 500 which was awesome.

Hi everybody.

I'm having SUCH a lazy weekend. I really need to get my butt in gear but I'm sooooo lazy! I got some packing done but it's almost 3 and I've barely done anything all weekend!

In my defense, I was still pretty sick on Saturday. But I'm only coughing a wee little bit now and I'm still not doing anything. I actually might go take a nap....

I hope everybody is having a nice day....:grouphug:

:goodvibes Just checking in as requested! Thanks for keeping track of me.
We went out for a ride today. It was a really relaxing day. A short ride turned into a nice long ride, we got some lunch and DS took a nap.

Sit back and enjoy. What a nice daughter!

hey all! I've been a working machine the past few days. All weekend, today, tomorrow, and Thurs. I'm beat. Too much for this part-time person. But can't complain too much, dh is taking us to Orlando on Friday for a long weekend.

Vickie-- sending lots of prayers and good thoughts across the pond. Update us when you can

Lauren--that's great news! Now even more jealous of that oct trip.

Happy Memorial Day to all! A huge thanks to all who serve or have served our country.

Now, as for WFD, the kids have had lots of pizza. Last night dh cooked a pasta dish. And tonight we went to a hibachi grill place. No with a grossly full belly I need to go to sleep.

**hugs** and prayers to you, Vickie.

It's 845 and we still haven't had dinner. DH decided to change the oil in the car and when he finished, we were going to start grilling. Well, the filter seal leaked and when he backed the car out of the garage, oil went everywhere. He was pleased ;) We had to do clean up, buy another filter, and redo it all. So, it'll be a late dinner for us! And I get to grill in the dark =)

ABT = Atomic Buffalo Turds(I dont like the name, so I use the initials).

Jalapeno peppers stuffed with all sorts of variations. the one I use

whole seeded, and cored jalapenos with a slice taken out of one side. I then fill with a mixture of cream cheese, roasted garlic, Krab, shredded cheese, Then wrap in bacon, and put on the smoker for 2 hours. The peppers come out mild, and they are a tasty treat. Others put lil smokeys under the bacon, etc, lots of variations.

Kingcrab, I love ABT's! Have you ever tried Armadillo Egg's? Similar to ABT's but use ground sausage instead of bacon.

Good Morning!

Not too sure about dinner yet. I have to go for an ultrasound today for my thyroid...let's hope all is OK and I do not have to go for another biopsy. Then have to go for bloodwork. Andrew also has a game tonight.

Just wanted to quickly check in and say Good Morning! Have a great day all!

Mornin' all!

Today I'm making crockpot cheesy chicken pasta. I have some French bread in the freezer so I may make some garlic bread with it.

I FINALLY got to try the Cinco de Mayo brownies. Indeed, they are quite good. A note to anyone that makes them: serve them with ice cream or Cool-Whip or something to cut the sweetness :)

Have a great day!
