The What's For Dinner Thread - May '09(recipe index in OP)

Morning Y'all,

No rain yet, but it's dreary.

Hi! Just poppiing in to say hey before I go get ready. We are going to Atlanta for the day. We will be eating at Ted's Montana Grill. I can't wait. I've got to do some searching and find a Williams-Sonoma nearby. I need to do some stocking up :)

Sheryl, how are you feeling? (sorry if I'm bugging you, but I know how painful it is to fall and you've been on my mind!)

That sounds like a great day! Have fun!

I'm feeling pretty darn good, just a little low back pain & some bad bruises on my leg. The injection seems to be working really well this time! ( no matter how hard I try to screw it up.:rolleyes1)

Hi Ladies,

I have done a small bit of lurking over the past couple of days but just have not posted. I just have been real uncomfortable to sit for a long period of time, but I am not going to complain about it anymore...it is all worth it in the long run and she is going to be here before I know it.

Today we are going to my DB for a cookout. It is my niece's birthday. I dont mind going since I dont have to cook or do clean-up.

Have a nice holiday weekend all!!!
Ann

Ann, Have fun at the cookout, that sounds perfect for a very pregnant lady. Just sit and let family bring you food!! :goodvibes

Good Morning!

I am trying to get my troops ready to go to a huge market in New Hope, PA...I want to try and leave by 10. My guys love to sleep in so that is a feat on the weekend. Andrew is up, surprisingly, and I have to wake Tom in a little while.

Not sure about dinner. Andrew has a game at 5:30 which means he has to be there an hour early and I have snack shack duty. What fun! I hate that they schedule the parents to work during their kids games. I guess its easier that way though.

Kat/Sheryl, Did I ever tell you I had a crawfish as a pet once? I worked as a bartender at a fish market/restaurant and they got live ones in and they were so cute I had to take one...or two.

Have a great day!

A HUGE Market!! Oh that will be fun!

Sorry about snack duty, but you probably would despise it even more if you had to be out there an extra day.

Crawfish don't last very long as pets down here!!! :lmao: They are sooo cute you just want to eat them up!!! :lmao:

Good morning everyone!

WOW what a busy week! Today we are seeing Night at the Musuem II and then having lunch/dinner at Claim Jumper with a bunch of friends from the Chicago area.:dance3:

I will feel so good to have 3 days off. No particular plans we will just fly by the seat of our pants.

Sheryl Eat extra crawfish for me. Since the NO deli closed I haven't had any good crawfish and that has been years. I don't think the people around here knew what to do with them. Just no oysters please. I think there may be a restaurant down your way that I can't go back too :rolleyes1

Lauren Why does the fact you had a crawfish as a pet not surprise me. :rotfl2: What was his name?

I had better get my hair washed so it is somewhat dry by movie time  I envy people that have hair that dries in least than a day.:sad2:

Well the oysters aren't as good during the summer, so you're okay there! The crawfish shells are starting to get too hard for boiling, but I do have some peeled tails in the freezer. So it's mostly crabs & shrimps right now! Hope it's okay if I eat that for ya!;)

Well, sis and I decided to gauge where we were going to eat by who had a great patio and great margaritas. So, you can tell we were really worried about food ;) Now, I've got to jump in the shower and head to work. Not sure WFD tonight. I'd like to grill out after work, but I might be too exhausted.

:lmao: Stephanie, I love this!

I think I might try to make it to the New Orleans Food & Wine grand tasting today! My stomach is feeling better, just have to set a fire under the DH!

What days are you guys meeting in WDW? I may be coming with my SIL, BigMama...

Check the OP for a list that includes you! Let me know if I need to change the dates.:goodvibes

We had Red Lobster, and it was good. Hit the spot! I did VERY well, my WW friends. Scoped out the menu and nutritional info online prior and went in knowing what to get. It was a proud proud moment

I'm proud of you!:thumbsup2

I have done a small bit of lurking over the past couple of days but just have not posted. I just have been real uncomfortable to sit for a long period of time, but I am not going to complain about it anymore

You can complain all you want, that's what friends are for.

Kat/Sheryl, Did I ever tell you I had a crawfish as a pet once? I worked as a bartender at a fish market/restaurant and they got live ones in and they were so cute I had to take one...or two.

:rotfl2:

WFD - NOLA style Bbq shrimp, french bread for dipping and sweet & sour macaroni salad!

Good Memorial Weekend Morning!

I am going to try to catch up...miss a few hours and Holy Moly!

Laura- :yay::yay: Glad that Greg is coming home! I died when I pictured him watching you and the fish...Even Rangers need to have a healthy "regard" for their wives :thumbsup2

Aimee- Weigh to go Girl! Sorry about the chair.. I keep trying to figure out how to add a dog to our little band but my poor kitties are old girls and just cannot adjust. Buddy just listens but has learned that it is better to let me wish

Ann- don't feel badly about complaining. It is okay to be so happy about the baby and still wish that the discomfort would go away.

Maria- when we saw Bruce in Hartford there were two drummers. I have never followed who's who in any band but Buddy and I wondered why a young drummer replaced the original midway through the concert. We just figured that it was a long night and the drummer was really playing!

I understand why the adoption process is long but my heart breaks when I think what wonderful parents you both will be and the loving home that you are going to provide. I wish the time would go bu faster

Sheryl- I know that this aide is a sign of how things are going to be.....BETTER!

Bethany- I am so glad that you are leaving that school system! My niece Amy went through something like your experience at a school system and she was miserable! I could not understand why an administration would want to shut down such a bright light as she is but they were horrible. She is so much happier now that she moved.

Lauren- a crawfish as a pet? Not surprised either  I guess that ever since Daniel had a slug named Shannon as a pet nothing will surprise me ;)

Stephanie- Have fun!

KingKrab- Okay- I am officially jealous! I made sure I told Buddy all about your great weekend BBQ plans. Turns out he thought that I was asking him to build a smokehouse................... and he was trying to fugure out where we could put that and if I would really use it. There is no way we could cart a smokehouse down iinto the basement if I got tired of using it. :lmao:

Stephanie- I don;t dare go to FB if ther are more pictures! I have yardwork and I tend to lose track of time so I will just need to wait until this afternoon when I am sitting with a glass of Welby Wine. One more reason to get that pesky yardwork done!

Ellen- You just make me :goodvibes every time you post! I don't even know why but they are so nice to read.

Music makes such a difference in kids. A lot of schools here are cutting back their arts programs and it is a shame,. We are so fortunate that our town supports the schools and all of the additional programs offered to enrich the children's curriculums.

Dinner last night rocked! Buddy stayed home and had egg sandwiches. I had offered to grill for him but he thought the pans he saw were for him. Nope. This is for Gail's. Then he almost choked when I told him gail had headed to Costco for food.....He thinks that her entire cooking background consists of Costco and Co :rotfl2:

I am not sure what we will do tonight. It depends if this old gal can move after I clean out my gardens and finally get them ready to add flowers.

Good morning,

Sheryl, I hope the new aide works out for you and Bob!
Lindsay, Williams Sonoma is my weakness.
Bethany, your situation sounds so frustrating. You must really be looking forward to the end of the school year. It's too bad that the kids get caught in the middle.
Aimee, I hope you find someone to take the puppy soon!

Last night I made cheese plate for dinner. Here is a picture. The grilled brie was especially delicious:

I am making antipasto for dinner. Laura called and said that Greg only weighs 160 lbs at the moment, so I am making tons extra for her to give him when he comes home tomorrow. That's his favorite meal.

I apologize for any typos in this post! There is a frozen window open that's blocking this post box so I can't see what I am typing.

Hi everyone! Quick post before I run out the door. Dad had his treatment yesterday. All 4.5 hours and he had to go back for an additional shot this morning. I'm headed over to his house now to check on him and take lunch.

I'll try to check back later.

Happy Memorial Day Weekend All~

Today is hanging around day, which means clean & Greg has homework.

Tomorrow major yard work, I've decided to build a stone wall & Monday Greg marches in our little parade, we have the wreath ceremony in the park & then go to the legion for hot dogs & beer.
Greg has always been the youngest vet at this legion but we hear there will be 2 "boys" that have come home from Iraq so that will make for a very happy day. Last year I sat at the bar with 6 men all widowers (youngest was about 80) & explained how to make pot roast in a crock pot:goodvibes

Sheryl how was the new agency aid?
Bethany, hope your resting.
Ann, feel good:hug:
Lauren, did they have a street fair in New Hope today?
Gretchen, let us know how you Dad is today, praying for everyone.
Aimee, any interest in the pup yet?
Becky, what's the cheese all the way to the left? I can't read the sign & it looks delicious.
Thank you for the thought & prayers for our adoption, we really appreciate it.:grouphug:

We are going to Atlanta for the day. We will be eating at Ted's Montana Grill. I can't wait.

When I was in Atlanta last year, we ate there twice! It really is good.

I have done a small bit of lurking over the past couple of days but just have not posted. I just have been real uncomfortable to sit for a long period of time, but I am not going to complain about it anymore...it is all worth it in the long run and she is going to be here before I know it.

Complain away! If it was me, you know I'd be complaining

Laura called and said that Greg only weighs 160 lbs at the moment, so I am making tons extra for her to give him when he comes home tomorrow. That's his favorite meal.

 Maybe I should join the military - seems like a great weight loss plan! I don't know his build but that's very thin on most men.

 I hope he's doing okay.

Tonight I AM making that spinach and gouda chicken - if I don't, that chicken will be icky.

Just no oysters please. I think there may be a restaurant down your way that I can't go back too :rolleyes1

Oh Oh!

Well between al of the Liam's Ladies cooking for him he will put some weight on! Enjoy the visit!

Becky- I love your cheese plates. I would love that for dinner one evening but I can just picture Buddy...and it would not be a pretty picture :scared:

A perfect way to spend the Holiday.

I have the front beds cleaned out and the perennials moved around so it looks better now. I need to head out and start on the side garden, it is a mess. I sort of killed my Hosta hedge last year so I need to try to find a way to bring the poor sad things back to life.

Donny called to tell me tha tmy nephew's wife (Manhatten) get tanked last night and lit into him about 5 times. I guess she called him some pretty nasty names. Then she started in on my niece Gina and her friend. Melanie went to school with Donny and they are good friends. after she finally passed out on the couch the two girls let my nephew have it. His only answer was that he knows she is a "brat" but once you get past that she really is a nice person.

Donny let it go in one ear and out the other but I think it is a good thing that Marisa was not there.

There's nothing I enjoy more than chatting with the wise ones.:goodvibes

I would love that for dinner one evening but I can just picture Buddy...and it would not be a pretty picture :scared:

I'm afraid the the picture of Johnny would be equally scary.:scared: I would LOVE it!!!!

Morning,

Gretchen hope your Dad is doing ok. Thinking of you.

Thank you all for your sweet words. I have been taking it easy. Today we are having a small cookout. My parents, step daughter, her boyfriend and grandson are coming over. Noone wants me going crazy cooking so, DM is making potato salad. DH said he would do the grilling, which is usually my job! Menu is choice of hot dogs, hamburgers, brats with kraut, potato salad, chips and corn on the cob.

Have a great day all!!!
Ann

Good Morning,

Hope all is well. We are going to my sister Nancy's for a BBQ. My mother is there for the weekend since Jane went to NH to see my neice graduate from UNH. I am bringing my old stand by...taco dip!

Gretchen, Please let us know how your Dad is doing. Prayers are continuing...

Any word from Wendie?

Have a great day all!

Good morning!

It looks like it is going to be a beautiful day. We had a wonderful day yesterday at the movies then meeting up with friends.

Not sure yet WFD I haven't figured that out yet. I feel like I've out all night :confused3.

Hope everyone has a great day.

Thank you all for your sweet words. I have been taking it easy.

Glad you're taking it easy, please continue to do so. Enjoy your day!

We are going to my sister Nancy's for a BBQ. My mother is there for the weekend since Jane went to NH to see my neice graduate from UNH. I am bringing my old stand by...taco dip!

Have fun!

I haven't heard from Wendie and I really miss her.:sad1:

It looks like it is going to be a beautiful day. We had a wonderful day yesterday at the movies then meeting up with friends.

So glad you had a great time!

We never did get all the rain that was predicted for this weekend, it's been beautiful!

We're grilling today - Grilled chicken with roasted garlic and oregano vinaigrette, grilled steaks with Maria's chimichurri sauce, black bean, corn and mango salad and Mesa grill potato salad.

Have a great day everyone!

Happy Sunday!

DH is leaving this afternoon to chaperone a youth retreat so I will be on my own tonight. I really want to just grab fast food on my way home from the grocery store, but I'm watching those points. I may do Subway instead. It's not deep fried but it is still not cooking

I wish our grocery store had a larger no-prep food area, like some of the nicer larger ones. They have the typical mayo based salads and fried chicken but that's about it. Not that I don't love fried chicken! :rotfl:

It's been raining on and off; it's bright sunshine with dark clouds here and there. I need to paint some chairs outside but can't trust the sky. Maybe tomorrow.

Thanks everyone for sharing in our enthusiasm. Greg should be home tonight before the kids go to bed.

Lauren -- Any day you go to the gym, you get a pass on the diet food...didn't you know that? ;) Our concession stand is like yours...volunteers are parents from the team. I would rather work a shift when Liam isn't playing.

I envy people that have hair that dries in least than a day.:sad2:

Well, you don't have to envy me. People must think I shower at all different times of day because I constantly have wet hair.

Maybe I should join the military - seems like a great weight loss plan!

A lot of gyms around here now offer "Boot Camp." Greg did lose 30 pounds or so during Basic Training. However, I think 160 is a low.

We never did get all the rain that was predicted for this weekend, it's been beautiful!

We lucked out most of today too. I had just pulled the fish from the grill when we started hearing thunder. While we were eating it hailed!

Dinner was cedar planked salmon, roasted asparagus, rosti potato cake and grilled mushrooms.

Hi all, hope everyone's well. My mom would be so mad at me, I'm using the computer in a thunder storm. My husband went to see a movie with a couple of friends so I thought I would check in.

Laura-Glad Gregg's coming home, but I hope you don't expect the kiddos to actually be able to get to sleep. I love trying to get extra weight on my husband, I get to make him all the tasty food. I'm sure Greg will be back to normal soon once he's back to his "normal" routine. It looks like great weather for the next few days too.

Aimee- Sorry Ace is causing a bit of trouble. We don't have a red lobster around here, but I do enjoy their biscuits. Good job with your point watching.

Lauren-I think my brother and I had a brief period of wanting to keep the lobsters for a pet, we got over it pretty quick though.

Ann- Sounds like you had a great day, I'm sorry your uncomfortable but at least she'll be here before the summer heat kicks in. That certainly wasn't a problem this weekend.

Maria- I work with a man who is 94 and I love talking with him, we talk cooking alot. I know he misses his wife's cooking.

Sheryl- I'm glad the aide had a reason, but I'm sorry this is so difficult. Before you know it this will be all over and you'll be feeling great.

Bethany- My mom was a teacher and as she got closer to retierment she kept a paper clip chain of the days she had left. I know she enjoyed watching that chain get smaller. I think you've paid your dues and will have a great school year ahead of you. Sorry going from a northern school to a southern school will shorten your summer vaction though.

Becky- I love the idea of grilled brie, and I just got new grill, the edges looked really good.

Glynis- Glad he slept so well, I hope it continues.

I wanted to say a little bit to everyone, but that's not happening. I read back but I think I forget half of it. I'm thinking of you all.

I'm really having a great time at work and it's great to be out doing something. I got to see a deer swim while I was having lunch the other day, I've never seen one swim before. We have a really great view from our lunch room. Summer is officially here, I feel bad we had bad weather this weekend for the people visiting. I hope everyone is well, talk to you soon.

Hi, everyone. We are going to my in-laws for a cookout today. I made the Cinco de Mayo brownies to take. My FIL loves them! It's so funny, I've made them twice now and they were to give away, so I technically haven't had one yet!! lol!

Everyone be safe today!

Happy Memorial Day!

I hope everyone has a safe and happy day. God Bless all of our fallen Heroes.

I have a lot to say but will never remember it all. W never had dinner yesterday, I made a cheese and fruit tray to enjoy after we killed ourselves (me) in the yard and after that, along with a few glasses of wine we were not hungry anymore. Go figure.

Today we may have dinner at Marisa's. If not I have some steak to grill along with a salad. I had planned on more yard work but Buddy thinks we should just relax. He is at the greenhouse "relaxing" while I catch up on the DIS.

Happy Memorial Day! Thank all of you loved ones that have served our country and are serving now...remembering all of our fallen heros too.

We are staying home today. Our town does not have a parade...I took out ground beef for burgers and some marinated (chipolte bbq) steak from trader joes...so whatevee they want. Corn on the cob and baked potatoes on the side.

Have a great day!

Today we celebrate the life we have because of the men and women that have served, those serving now and those that gave their lives for us.

WFD - Leftovers!
