I have taken it for the past two days. Each day I take it at night, before bed, because my Dr. warned me it might make me drowsy.

Yes, it sure does! I wake up in the morning in a fog, my arms and legs are heavy and I can barely get up! Then I need a nap about mid day.

Does Zyrtec do this to everyone? Does it just start out like this and then get easier to tolerate?? I'm going to give it a few more days, then tell my dr. to see what she thinks. In the meantime, what do you think?

I took Zyrtec for over a year and LOVED it. Best allergy med I ever had. Then one morning I woke up and thought I had the flu. Couldn't get out of bed. Heavy legs and arms, exhausted, felt awful. I stayed in bed and was so yechy I didn't take my meds that night. The next day I felt great:scratchin Took my usual Zyrtec at bed time and the exact same symptoms then next day. I called my Dr office and they switched me to Allegra. They said that sometimes happens with Zyrtec. It still bums me out--the Allegra is not as good as the Zyrtec was.

I would suggest you call your Dr on Monday and let them know what is going on.

I couldn't make it without it! I have horrible skin allergies on top of normal allergies. If I don't take it, I am crawling in my own in skin in two days. I have no problems with drowsiness with it or any other side-effect. Good luck!

My 21yo DS takes it and could not manage without it. He has taken it for 2 years now JUST during allergy season and it works great. :thumbsup2

It makes me drowsy and I don't care. Nothing else works.

I took it when I was pregnant as it was safer than my usual drug at that time, Benadryl. It didn't make me sleepy, but it also didn't really control my allergies. None of the supposedly "non-drowsy" allergy medications work on me, but Singulair, which I take now. It's still not as effective as Benadryl for me.

I have been taking Zyrtec for years (ever since Allegra stopped working for me) and have never had any problems with drowsiness. They did warn me that is a possible side effect and to take it at bedtime. That works since I take all of my meds at bedtime.

I hope it works out for you!:flower3:

My doctor gave me Zyrtec since Allegra did not work for me. The Zyrtec works well to control the allergy symptoms, but really zonks me out. I must have a good, solid 10 hours of sleep when I take this med. or I am in a fog throughout the day. My pharmacist told me to take it a couple of hours before bedtime. I typically don't even make it the 2 hours. I'm lucky it is for seasonal fall allergies and I don't have to take this stuff year-round. I don't think I would ever need a sleep aid as long as I have access to Zyrtec.

It does the same thing to me. I actually feel hung over. It is GREAT stuff, but boy it knocks me off my ...:faint:

oh!!! so that is why I slept for 10 hours the other day!!! When on amy given night I sleep no more then 3 hours!! humm....

it made me tired but it didn't do a thing for my allergies. Seldane was the only allergy medication that worked well for me and they took it off the market. Claritin is the best now though not perfect but allegra and zyrtec don't help me at all.

It is funny how different meds work differently for other people. My DS14 used Zyrtec several years ago and it could have been water for as much help as it gave him (none).

I deleted about the singulair, but the same is true for me. Didn't make me drowsy but after 2 days it didn't work well at all. Claritin is just a smidge better for me. I prefer benadryl as it works better than anything else (and it doesn't always make me drowsy either).

I take both Singulair and Zyrtec and don't experience any side effects from it. Hopefully it will get better, OP.

It worked fairly well for me. It didn't make me sleepy at all. Over the counter Mucinex D works wonders for me.

Same for me!!! I have been on it for about 3 years - this year it all of a sudden hit me! You can try to cut the pill in half and see if that works.

I miss Seldane big time. It really worked (for everyone I know who took it) and it truly didn't make me sleepy. Zyrtec works moderately well for me; certainly better than Claritin or Allegra, but it does make me sleepy. I usually take it late afternoon/early evening. If I take it during the daytime; I'm a goner.

I loved Zyrtec but it keeps me up at night when I take it so I had to get off of it. I'm on allegra now and its not too bad. At least I can get some sleep with it.

I take Zyrtec on a regular basis and it never makes me sleepy....might just be because I am used to it though. I do sometimes take Benadryl allergy and sinus at night to help me fall asleep if my allergies are really bad. The Zyrtec works okay....but I still come down with sinus infections. I have had 3 really bad ones since I have been pregnant....ugh!

I just started taking it about 1 month ago,...and my doc didn't tell me to take before bed time!! :scared1:

I actually take it before I go to work! LOL...sometimes I feel a little dizzy, but have noticed that it has gotten better after about 1 week...but you know, it's probably different for everyone. My job requires me on my feet for close to 9 hrs straight...I couldn't imagine taking allergy med..and having a sit down job...that would be tough! At least moving makes it not as fuzzy.

Good luck!
