I started taking Zoloft to deal with some specific phobias. I started at 25 mg and worked my way up to 50. The last few nights I have had horrible heartburn. My throat is on fire and I feel like I'm going to be sick. I am on Prilosec twice a day and Zantac at night for a Laryngopharyngeal Reflux, and they are not touching this. I plan to talk to my doctor about it next week. (This week wasn't an option due to the snow storm.)

Has anybody else had this issue? I am thinking about jusst not taking it for nnnow to see if that makes a difference. I was hoping this would help with the phobia, but it's not worth the hearburn.

From what I have heard certain PPI's can cause heartburn. You should also check for any interaction with the prilosec and Zoloft since prilosec tends to have reactions with many SSRI ( antidepressants).

Though I will say that that much Prilosec should be helping , if not you should definitely go see a gastroenterologist as it could be something else. I thought my issue was heartburn for two years and recently found I have an esophageal motility problem that was giving me spasms mimicking heartburn.

Last resort, try a different anti depressant.

I had the same reaction to Prozac. Probably the best antidepressant I ever had, but after about 5 weeks the heartburn would start. One time I managed to take it for 8 weeks, but by that time my esophagus felt like a hot muffler and I could feel pain all the way up my neck, into my ears.:scared: There was NO getting used to it. I had to go off the drug and try something else. Fortunately, we found Remeron, a very old drug which has been a very good match for me.

Good luck. Don't wait until it gets out of hand. Call your doctor on Monday and see if there is any antiacid you can take until you can be seen. Just don't stop the Zoloft suddenly!
