You know, I really don't like when I end up on an elevator with someone that is coming in from smoking a cigarette. It is really nasty.

Unfortunately, I'm getting off on the top floor so I have to withstand it until they get off.

Just had to vent a bit...

10 floors and doors are locked. You can get out (in an emergency) but you can't get in.

It doesn't taste any better than it smells.

If you're not breathing through your nose, you shouldn't be able to "taste" anything.. That's why pediatricians will tell mom's to pinch their children's noses when they have to take yucky medicine..;) Whatever it is that you think you're "tasting" is probably mind over matter.. I've had to not breathe through my nose when I'm in close contact with people who wear certain perfumes or aftershave..:)

So many places have banned indoor smoking that I have fortunately forgotten how nasty that is.

Sorry lfontaine. And yes, it is YUCK.

It's awful, and I bet the smoker is so used to the smell they don't know how offensive they smell.

I have to agree that is gross. My grandma's boss is a smoker and the office always smells horrible but he's been smoking for so long the odor doesn't affect him. I can't be around cigarette smoke I literally have to cover my hand over my nose and mouth untill the smell goes away.

Get off at the next floor and take another car, gheesh.
And no, I don't smoke, I used to and I am hyper sensitive to the smell but I would never be so rude as to cover my nose and mouth in someones presence. That IMO is going overboard. Would you do that to someone with bad breath or BO which IMO are far worse than the lingering smell of a cigarette.

There are buttons for floors. Press one and when the door opens, get out of the elevator and then either: a) take the stairs or b) take another elevator. It's very simple.

Both sound reasonable to me - or just don't breathe through your mouth.. Unless the person was smoking in the elevator, you can't "taste" it if you're not breathing through your nose..;) If I encountered the perfume or aftershave that causes me so much trouble I would definitely do any one of the above rather than suffer through something I didn't have to..:goodvibes

I agree, and I'm subscribing because I want to know what the poster does about bad breath and bo :confused3

I just quit a few weeks ago but would hope I would never cover my nose etc. that is just rude .

Crop! I just wanted to "follow the rule" ;) just in case.

I'm confused. Did the OP say that she covered her nose or indicated in any way that her sense of smell was offended?

Congrats! Toughest thing I have ever done. I miss it every day (I do not crave it, there is a huge difference), I "quit" (last pack I bought) Oct. 15, 2008 but had 1 smoke once a week (stolen from BFF who has since quit with me) until mid January 2009. I took Chantix for 5 months. I can smell the smoke from the guy in the car in front of me doing 80 mph on the highway or when our front office chick goes outside for a smoke, I know the minute she comes back and there are several offices and 2 air conditioning system zones between me and her! ;)

No, the OP did not that was a comment from another poster. The OP's complaint was they were stuck with them on the elevator thus the advice to get off at the next floor.

I just looked and no one said that they would hold their nose. They simply said to breathe through your mouth, then provided examples of how holding your nose changed the "taste" of things... :goodvibes
