You've just turned 55! What are you going to do now?

Wow!! It sure has been a long time since I’ve written a trip report. I used to love reading them and I still do, but I was always wanting more interaction on my reports and it just wasn’t there. Of course now my Dis-friends’ kids are all grown up and there’s not a lot of “family” trips anymore within my little circle like there used to be. Oh, once in a while we take Victoria (who is now 24!!!!) but it’s a different type of trip then when she was little - she started her Disney trips at age 6!! Disney is still my “home” and the place I enjoy being at the most. I love being inside the Disney bubble where the outside world doesn’t exist. Crazy, I know, but I think we all need our happy place! I tell people not to call when I’m on vacation --- even if someone dies! Oh, ok, so maybe not to that extreme, but pretty darn close to it. You all know what I mean! :rotfl2:

Let’s get to the details, shall we? Why yes, yes we shall!
Where: Disney’s Port Orleans Riverside resort (where we honeymooned – with Victoria in tow)
When: May 16-22
Why: To celebrate my birthday month! Yes, I said month!
Who: Peter (hubby extraordinaire) and myself

IMG_1143.JPG

So, you might be thinking "who are they?" Well, I'm Ann and I am the one who turns 55 on the 11th. My husband is Peter who is 58. We were married in 2010 on the beach, barefoot. Yep, one of my dreams that came true! Victoria is our 24 year old daughter. Others that are in our household include 2 rabbits, 2 cats, 1 sun conure and our 16 chickens outside.

Of course I started planning this trip as soon as we got back from our last trip (September 2021). I had been taking solo trips for the last 2 years in May for my birthday (Boy, having annual passes sure does make that decision easy! Maybe, too easy). On my last solo trip I felt more lonely without either Peter or Victoria and decided I just didn’t want to do a solo trip this time around. I wanted really to bring Victoria, but she now has her own life (ie moved out, job, etc) and it isn’t as easy for her to pick up and take off. I, on the other hand, have been working for State government for over 20 years, so I have quite a bit of vacation time accumulated and I can just take off. As much as I sometimes get upset with Victoria, she is my ride buddy and I love her with all my heart. Peter doesn’t go on the more exciting rides such as Expedition Everest, Rock n Rollercoaster, Tower of Terror etc. Usually, when it is just Peter and I, I don’t ride those particular rides. It’s ok. I know I’ll always be going back! Being Disney Vacation Club members ensures that we will be going back year after year! Peter asked me if I was going to go alone this time and I said I would unless he could get the time off. Now he’s a Manager at Sam’s Club for about 2 or 3 years now and he doesn’t have the vacation time accumulated as I do. He has something called PTO and that seems to be a whole different animal than my sick/vacation/personal days off. I believe 2 of the days we will be in Disney will be unpaid for him and he still has to plan for our anniversary trip in September. So now with him being able to have the time off, the trip turned into a Peter and I trip! That’s cool! I love my hubby --- probably a good thing! 😍

Victoria

Now I did mention that Victoria had moved out right? Yeah, well she is back in our household. Things didn’t work out for her and her girlfriend, so she’s back. We were without her for over 6 months and were getting used to being “empty-nesters”. Fortunately for her, she is able to work remotely so she has her little “office” set up in her room. Her mama will always be here for her, that’s for sure. Needless to say, this whole adventure of hers has cost me a lot of money (yes, I paid ½ of her security deposit on their apartment and helped her out financially. Oh, there’s also a little issue with her switching to her own phone plan which ended up costing me almost $800 for cancelling a portion of my contract.😡 So, that means a huge cut into the “Disney Money” but I love her and again, will always be there to help her out. Now I’m scrambling to try to save up all the money we need. Yes, we could probably eat cheaper than what we do, but c’mon……It’s Disney!!! My credit card enjoyed being at a zero balance, but it is time to use her again. HeeHee!!

I’m still working for State government as I said, but am no longer a Human Services agent. I had some health issues and wanted to step back and concentrate on getting well and that job was sucking the life right out of me. Health issues? Yeah, I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2019, had surgery and radiation. That was not a fun time, let me tell you, but I didn’t take much time off at all during the whole ordeal. I did, however, accept a position which is 5 pay grades below what I was earning as an Agent. Basically it means I lost $5 per hour, but I needed less stress. This past October I had a hysterectomy and in November I had surgery to remove a large kidney stone. The surgery is called percutaneous nephrolithotomy. Big word which means they cut through my back to get to the stone. So, taking the lower paying job was meant to be in the long run. Now, however, I am feeling stronger and am interviewing with State government for a higher paying job. Wish me luck. I’m also still working at Target 🎯 part-time as a fulfillment specialist which means I pick the online orders for either store pick up or shipping. Yes, I get paid to shop. Ok, well I can keep anything I pick, but at least I’m not real-shopping with my real-money! Win-win right there! The pay I earn from Target is supposed to be Disney money, but it seems like something is ALWAYS coming up to prevent me from saving it. $15 per hour for 15 hours per week is not a whole lot of money, but it helps. I try to take on extra shift when I can but this old girl is TIRED!!! It’s a lot of walking as you can imagine --- I’ve fit bitted it to be about 2.5 miles per 4 hour shift. No one better tell me I’m not getting my steps in! I just figure it’s good Disney practice as they say a typical Disney Day is walking 13 miles!

We are flying out of Portland via Southwest. Yes, I did book the tickets as soon as they came out. (Website stalker, what can I say). The tickets are always so much cheaper when they first get released. I bought the tickets when they were just about $200 per person round trip. If I were to book them now it would be $500pp! I just checked. Unbelievable!

I think I'm going to end this introduction posting here. But hang in there. I'll have plenty to say in future posts!! And please, come in, stay a while! Please introduce yourself and I will consider you a lifelong friend!

Thank you so much eksmama01!! Where are you staying? I hope you and your family enjoy your time there, too. How many times have you been?

I changed our reservations a zillion times, but we finalized at a split stay - YC and BCV. I've been going since the 70s as a baby :D My DD 10 is now a Disney fanatic. We had told her this may be our last trip, at least for a long while, with all the recent changes - but I suspect she will make us think otherwise LOL

Oh that sounds like fun! We are DVC members but have not yet stayed at either of those resorts. Our next stay in September will be at Saratoga Springs unless our waitlist for AKL Jambo comes through!

We are at 8 days folks and I’m getting so excited. Of course I’m also worried that I may forget to pack something, but I’ve done this how many times now? One year I forgot pj’s. (Peter didn’t mind that). One year we forgot Peter’s swimsuit (he got a new Mickey Mouse one). Of course the usual forgetting Tylenol and stuff like that always happens. I just want to make sure I pack my meds and insulin. It would not be a good thing for me not to have my insulin. Love diabetes --- NOT!!! 🤬

We will be getting into Orlando early, right around noon and I still haven’t decided on the Sunshine Express from MCO to the resort or taking an Uber. I should probably look into this today. My plans are to get to the resort, find our room, maybe put our stuff away or maybe just leave it all and head right to Downtown Disney. We have ressies at the Boathouse for dinner.

I love to eat there! I usually start with steamed clams and move on from there. The most wonderful part is the seven layer chocolate cake. OMG!!! It’s amazing. There should be enough time prior to the reservation to do a bit of shopping. One of my favorite things to shop for is pins. I love to pin trade and I am even putting this little beauty up outside my door. I’ve seen it on other people’s Facebook posts, so I thought it would be fun to try and see what treasures I may end up with.

1651941827263.png

Another surprise I am planning on doing is making little baggies of my extra minibrands and Disney toy minibrands and placing them around the resort and parks. I just think it would be fun for a kid to find a treasure and making Disney just a little more magical for someone. I love to find treasures myself, so I hope whomever find them enjoys them.

After our dinner at the Boathouse, we will be heading over to Epcot as I was able to snag a Passholder preview slot for the new Guardians of the Galaxy coaster!!! I am so excited! I will now have to watch the movie so that I can understand the concept of the ride. I know it’s a coaster and I love those! Unfortunately Peter does not ride coasters so it will be me, myself and I. I wish I could transfer the second pass to someone else, but it is not transferrable. It’s too bad because I would love to gift that position to someone else who would love it.

1651941951876.png

I don’t think we’ll be spending a lot of time at Epcot as we will be very tired from having to leave the house at 3am to catch the flight. I believe it will just be an early night so we can be ready bright and early in the morning! Our first day?..........EPCOT!!!!!

Congrats on getting to ride GotG! It will be great even if your DH won't ride with you! I think we are going to wing it when we go to Disney Springs. We have an 'Ohana breakfast at 11 the day we plan on heading over so it will likely just be a snack/shopping stop for us between hotels.

I love your hiding pin baggies idea. This is the kind of thing that makes life special. Will you have a note or writing with sharpie on the baggie on it ? Or just leave random pins? I may want to try something similar and am excited to have heard this idea.

Well folks, we are getting so close to the trip! I’ve been busy doing the little things like printing up journaling cards for my scrapbook:

1652226350585.png

and making up my little cards for our daily plans. I do NOT like to be on my phone while in Disney, so I usually write out our day to day plans and flight info so it’s right handy. This trip I’m also going to try to hit up all the pin trading locations. I love to pin trade! The other day I was thinking I don’t have enough trading pins (I probably have 30) so I ordered a lot of 25 from ebay. When are they estimated to come in? May 17th!! Ugh! I wanted them for this trip. Maybe they will come early, but I doubt it knowing my luck. I’ve also made a shirt with the Firehouse (an 80’s band) logo.
The lead singer, CJ Snare lives in Celebration so he posts a fair amount of photos of Disney as he states he goes there a lot. Wouldn’t it be cool to run into him??!!!! I would ask him to sign my shirt --- oh that reminds me ---bring a Sharpie! I purchased a Cricut heat press around Christmas and this was the first time using it to make the shirt with iron-on paper. I like it.

1652227936110.png
I’ve also purchased more gift cards!

I like the fact that I can buy them at Target with my red card and save 5% and then since I’m a team member, I receive another 5% so there’s 10% total. I’m purchasing $2,000 worth of gift cards (no, I don’t need that many souvenirs, I’m paying the balance of the resort) so 10% off is a savings of $200!!! That’s about two meals at Disney depending on what is ordered.

1652226643788.png

Tomorrow I am sending a fax over to Riverside with my room requests. Yes, I’ve already had it noted on my reservation, but I just wanted to put a little fairy in their ears that maybe our requests will be granted. There are conflicting reports as to whether or not the room assigners actually look at the faxes they receive, but hey, it doesn’t hurt anything to send one. We booked a King so that could be anywhere in the resort. I’m hoping to be in Alligator Bayou in one of the buildings closed to the food court/main area. Building 14 would be ideal, but anything near would be great, too. You all probably have no idea what I’m talking about, so I’m including a map which has the building numbers listed.
1652226516985.png

We’ve never stayed in a King before but this was the only thing left when the latest promo came out. It’s still a savings from the original price with 2 queens. I’m so excited! I just can’t wait to see where we will be placed! Usually Disney will text you with your room number within an hour or two of landing. If they don’t have your room ready once you get to the resort, you are able to drop your bags at Bell Services and they will hold them for you while you go on your adventure which for us is Downtown Disney! That’s where the Boathouse is located, so we’ll be right there for dinner. I’m thinking of taking Peter for a ride in the Amphicars that they have there. We’ve never done it before as it’s $125 per ride and for a short boat ride, I think it’s too expensive. We keep talking about it every time we are there. Just haven’t pulled the plug yet.

I haven’t decided on ears to bring yet. Let’s face it, I have a lot of them but I always pick up a new pair every trip. I think I’m going to be packing a couple. One is definitely one with the crown because, after all I’m a princess! I also have Haunted Mansion ones and I’m thinking about my light blue ones. We’ll see. Whichever I decide on, you will see them in the many, many, many pictures I will be taking.

Pictures --- that’s another thing I’m grateful for! At the time I renewed my annual pass, I received another free year of Photopass. Those ride photos and other random photos are so special for me. Since I’m the photographer, I’m not usually in many pictures, so to be in some is very nice. I especially like the ride photos. I know where the cameras are in various rides so I make a total fool of myself. It’s funny --- Facebook brought up the memories of 4 years ago and there’s this one picture that we are on ToT and I have both arms up and look like I’m having a blast, which I was. I actually just spent time on my phone trying to find it for you guys and guess what --- I came up with it! Yay!
1652226948727.png

Another thing I’m going to seek out this trip will be the Disney Visa photospots. Those are special photospots for Disney Visa holders only. I’ve read about the one in Epcot and the one in Hollywood Studios. Those are the only 2 spots I believe.

So, my travel day is going to be pretty lame for you all, but I love to fly! I love airports! I don’t like having to take off my shoes and going through the scanner. There’s always something on me that triggers it and TSA usually has to swab my hands. It’s weird. We are doing our typical early morning flight out of Portland and will have a stop in Baltimore. This is the route we always seem to take. There was one trip where we did 2 stops and Peter did not do well with that one. The takeoff/landing more than once was a bit much for him. Usually we do McDonalds breakfast in the Baltimore airport as by then it’s time to take my meds and insulin. There’s only an hour in between flights and they start boarding about 20-30 minutes prior to flight time, so this is a quick breakfast. I did bite the bullet and signed us up for transportation from the airport to the resorts, round trip on the Sunshine Flyer for $68 for the two of us. I suppose this will be better than an Uber price, at least I hope. The email I received from them confirming my reservation states where they are located in the airport so it’s all good.
1652227094762.png

I’ve now told you about our travel day which is highlighted by the Boathouse and the preview for Guardians of the Galaxy coaster. Epcot is open until 11pm for Resort Guests, but since we are going there on our first full day, I think we will probably going back to the resort and getting in the hot tub. MMMMMMMMMMMMmmmmmmmmmm I am so looking forward to the hot tub. Peter doesn’t go in the pool unless it’s 90 degrees (I swear!) so we spent most of our down time in the hot tub. Oh, I pop into the pool myself as I love pools, but nope, he’ll stay in the hot tub. That's it for today! Take care everyone!

Hi DJFan!!!! Welcome to my report! I actually now have a bunch of silly straws to add to the minibrands for a pixie dust surprise. I'm thinking of placing labels saying "You've found Pixie Dust". I just don't know if I am going to tape it to the little baggies or get some type of tag thing and tie it on. I'm just not sure yet. I got the silly straws from Target as our HR person was just going to throw them out and I'm like, "NO!!!" I know little kids like silly straws. I could probably make little tags on my Cricut. That will be a good project for Saturday! Again, thank you for stopping by! Do you ever do trip reports? I would love to hear about your upcoming trip!

Just joining in! Cannot wait to hear more!

The Boathouse is my absolute favorite restaurant. When I was a CM, that was my go to restaurant!
Hi there and welcome! My report will be coming soon. I unfortunately didn't make the ressie for the Boathouse this time around. I'll be including what happened in my report!
HEY GIRL! HEY! Let us know when you start a trip report!
