Your ULTIMATE SURVIVAL GUIDE to Disney World at Christmas Time! UPDATE x2 10/21

I can't remember if I've commented on this TR of yours yet but I'm loving it! I love hearing about your college experiences as well! I have just one semester left (after this one) but I transferred too & it was SUCH a hard decision and so complicated but everything always works out exactly how it should! I am also OBSESSED with the CP...every other thought I have is about it (and all of my dreams haha)!!! Are you reading the TR "5 Months in the Most Magical Place on Earth?" I think I've seen you comment on it but can't remember...I get SO excited reading that...and watching the 2 million videos and reading all the blogs, I LOVE how much there is on the internet about the CP! But I saw you mentioned trying for Spring 2013, that's actually the only semester I could do the program because I have to do my student teaching following this semester. I'm pretty torn about it though because I feel like I might be letting down my parents if I run away to WDW instead of getting a "real job" with my degree but...IT'S DISNEY WORLD! I think the position I would try to get would be a Vacation Planner...it's seriously perfect for disers hahaha plus I've heard you get incentives like disney dvds or plane tickets! Plus doing the CP would be the perfect way to ease into moving to Orlando and going full time if I decide to! Anyways...woah...way to pour my heart out here! hahaha...I guess we just have to sit and wait for foreverrr for the app to get put up and see if it's in the cards!

Aww thank you! I'm so glad you're enjoying!
I'm glad that your whole transferring situation worked out too! Mine sure did - I was SO miserable before and now I actually enjoy being here :goodvibes I think everything happens for a reason to get you where you want to go, you know?
I AM OBSESSED WITH THE DCP TOO! It's ridiculous. I talk about it every day and I still have like a whole year until I can do it. :lmao: (at least! I really hope it can be next spring. We'll see.)
Yes someone recommended that TR to me on here and I started reading the beginning! I haven't had time to get very far into it but I am going to! (maybe today actually!) It's so cool to read about her experience. I would love to do a DCP trip report!!
Hmm well I'm just gonna say... you REALLY should do the program. Because if you think about it, an opportunity like this is never going to come around again, you know? If you don't do it you would look back and regret letting that chance go by! Student teaching and real jobs can wait, they'll be around for the rest of your life. You should do this for yourself well you have the opportunity!
You'll have to keep me updated on if you do it in Spring 2013 or not! That is what I'm REALLY leaning towards right now... but of course that's a whole year from now. We'll have to see but I can't wait figure it all out!! I'm sure it'll all fall into place!
Vacation planning would be so cool! Maybe I'll put that as one of my possibilities! And LOL I totally have the same mindset as you - I would LOVE to move down there and work full time! Maybe someday. I feel like it's my calling.
And oh my gosh - pour your hear out anytime! I feel like I do a huge, long "I want to do the DCP SO BAD!!!" post every single day lately. :lmao: It's totally fine! I understand exactly how you feel!
Before we know it the apps will be out! (even though no time can ever be soon enough!!!) I hope everything works out for you!
And thanks again for reading! It's so great to have you here!

haha don't worry, you'll get it done eventually... mine took 18 months and people still stuck around!

You totally were not being annoying! Normally I would have answered right away if not for the service issues. :headache:

"and they'd be lucky to have someone like you who is so talented, experienced, and disney loving!" Aww thank you, you are so sweet! My dream is to play Belle or Ariel so I could get to sing, but I know how particular they are. They actually had Finding Nemo auditions in Manhattan b/c they're that serious about finding people talented enough for broadway, unfortunately I couldn't go that day but it would have been interesting! A more realistic goal would be for me to be one of the parade dancers, that looks like so much fun. And doing the streetmosphere in Hollywood would be a BLAST! I also would love to just play a character so much though. I read that they also have specific height requirements, like Princesses are 5'6" - 5'7", Mickey and Minnie are 5'0" and 5'1". I'm 5'3", and I read that the character for that height is Alice which is so exciting! Here I go rambling on haha. What kind of entertainment would you want to do?

Haha I hope so! I mean, there's TONS of stuff to tell about between these two trips so it should be entertaining enough.
Oh good! I'm glad!
Aww you're welcome! It's true! And yeah they are CRAZY particular about look alike characters... but I mean, if they see something in you that they'd like, they'd pick you! It just depends on the day/what they're looking for.
That's so cool that they had Finding Nemo auditions in Manhattan! Oh my God! I wish you could have gone - that would be SO cool! If that ever happens again you should just go for the heck of it!
STREETMOSPHERE IN HOLLYWOOD WOULD BE SO COOL!!!! I can totally see you doing that oh my God. How fun!
And yeah they are VERY picky about height as well. But omg my Mom and I were talking about Disney entertainment yesterday and she LITERALLY said "I could see Lia being Alice!" hahaha how precious! You should audition for it someday! Who knows!
Well... my absolute dream role would be Belle in Beauty and the Beast Live on Stage. Other than that I would love to just do like character meet and greets/the castle stage show type performance. So I don't know exactly. It's hard because I'm not a super experienced dancer, so the auditions would be rough for me. :headache: But maybe after all of my theatre training here I would have a better idea of what I could do specifically! Who knows - there's so many options! :goodvibes

Chapter 6: "I Recognize Her... She's One of Those Frumps!"
December 6th, 2011

Let the Very Merry Christmas Magic begin!

imageeqn.jpg

I was just in awe as we made our way down Main Street. Being there for Christmas is a COMPLETELY different experience. It is so special and the atmosphere is indescribably magical. I couldn't stop looking at the buildings and the balloons and the decorations... it was just AMAZING!

Here are the Christmas Balloons:

imageriu.jpg

It's time for castle pictures! Here's Mother:

imagekmgb.jpg

And me!

imagedphv.jpg

I absolutely LOVE the reflection in the water here:

There's just something about this Castle at Christmas Time. The magic is just increased by 1,000%.

imagektt.jpg

After our little photo shoot, I looked at my map and decided that my focus for the night was going to be characters. We headed over to Frontierland first, but the parade was going on so the area was a pretty congested.

The Very Merry Christmas Party map frustrated me because it didn't tell you which characters were where! They'd have all of the little symbols every where on the map, but it wouldn't specify whose spot was whose! Ugh it was so annoying to me because I just wanted to have a plan. On top of that, being up since 5 am and my knee bleeding just resulted in be being in a slightly grouchy mood. I was tearing up because I didn't really know where to start and I only had one shot at getting stuff done at this Christmas Party!

So what do we do when I get sad? We get a Cookie!

imagessnr.jpg

We went over to Adventureland and they had the complementary cookies and hot chocolate there! YUM they were really good! The cookies were snickerdoodles. They were so soft that they melted in your mouth. And they were thick cookies which is pretty great quality for being complementary! I gobbled mine right up!

We saw that there was going to be a character meet and greet in Adventureland on the map. So we got in line and found out the characters were going to be Jasmine and Genie! That was great! Sadly Aladdin was not there, but I survived. Jasmine is my favorite princess and the Genie is precious so it was fine.

I asked the Cast Member working there if she could tell me which characters were in each location on the map. Thankfully she was able to give me some information so I felt a lot better.

I actually think I asked a few CM's before her and they were not able to give me any info. She was finally the first one who knew where some of them were.

Tip #7: If you're going to Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party, look up the characters and locations BEFORE you get to the party. The map tells you where everyone is, but they don't say who is at each specific location.

While I was chatting with the CM, my Mom was waiting in line. This lady in front of her said to my Mom...

"...I think I recognize her! Does your daughter go on disboards?"

My Mom said "why yes, she does!"

So the lady said "Yes that's where I know her from! She's one of those frumps!"

I came back and my Mom told me that this lady read my trip reports! I believe her name was scroogemama and she is a fellow Diser! She doesn't comment very often but she reads along! She specifically remembered the Bathrobe Princess Trip Report! I was SO flattered that she recognized me - that was probably the coolest thing ever! I felt famous!!

Scroogemama was there with her husband and their kids. They were so nice and her husband was really funny! Scroogemama is always on disboards but doesn't post often (I know a lot of you do that! haha) and her husband was teasing her that she should stop lurking and start posting! LOL We chatted and I told her about how nobody knew I was taking this spontaneous trip!

It was really just the coolest thing to have a reader recognize me! Thank you for saying something! Scroogemama if you're out there - leave a comment! I'd love to hear from you again! It was so nice to meet you!

After that awesome and unexpected DisMeet, it was finally time for us to meet Jasmine and Genie!

imagelwn.jpg

I'm definitely making a Deer Face in this picture hahaha

imageqluk.jpg

They were SO cute! Genie is very funny and very expressive! He did such a great job portraying his character even though he can't talk! And Jasmine was a sweetheart as usual! I loved meeting them!

imageuslj.jpg

After our little meet and greet we went back to Main Street USA!

imageswjt.jpg

The end of the parade was going through, so we only got to see a little bit of it. (for now) Here are some pictures from the last few floats:

Mickey and Minnie:

The Fairy Godmother:

imageiglx.jpg

SANTA!

imagevuv.jpg

These Toy Soldiers just remind me of my Christmas Sing Along video from when I was little. I LOVED THAT VIDEO oh my God it was the BEST. I miss my childhood.

imageolc.jpg

I also laugh because that CM and the Toy Soldier look like they are staring each other DOWN! hahaha

The Cast Member in Adventureland told me about some VERY special characters that were going to be in the Town Square Theatre, so that was our intended destination.

We were stuck on the other side of Main Street until the parade was over, so once it finished we bolted across the street! We got right in the theatre and hopped line for the princesses!

The line actually wasn't too long but we had a little bit of a wait. We made friends with the people in front of us and they LOVED Disney as well! (But I mean, who doesn't? Come on.) Their two kids were Katie, who was four, and Michael, who was two.

Little Michael absolutely LOVED Mickey! He saw my Santa Mickey hat and he screamed! Hahaha what an angel. Every time he went up to meet a princess he would just melt into her arms. It was seriously the cutest thing I have ever seen.

The first characters we met were SNOW WHITE AND PRINCE CHARMING!

imageyeo.jpg

Ahh I never met Prince Charming before so it was really exciting! Him and Snow White looked REALLY young! Neither of them could have been over 18! But I think they both fit their parts well - they were so cute!

imagedlgz.jpg

Our next characters were Sleeping Beauty and Prince Phillip!

imageoeo.jpg

They were ADORABLE and very talkative! Aurora told us that she baked for 6 hours to make all of the cookies for the party tonight! And Prince Phillip asked if I had a prince, and I told him no. But he said that I should keep singing because that's how he found his princess! Birthdays are a very good time to find a prince, also. I should take his advice. Disney Princes probably know what they're talking about.

imageckg.jpg

And then next were some VERY important characters!!!!!!

Lia and Kara and Kristen, prepare yourselves.

We met......

RAPUNZEL AND FLYNN RIDER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

imagevdu.jpg

I can't even tell you how excited I was to meet them. Especially because Flynn Rider is never out for meet and greets during normal park days anymore! I just about DIED. SMOULDER SMOULDER SMOULDER!!

The little girl, Katie, was before us and she asked Flynn what was in his satchel. He opened it up and there was Rapunzel's crown! Just like in the movie! How cool is that!?

Christmas Tip #8: If you get to meet Flynn Rider at Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party, ask what is in his satchel!

Rapunzel had an awesome personality! She was so spunky, animated, and energetic! It was like they took her right out of the movie! She mentioned my long hair - what a compliment!

My Mom told them that it was her birthday and they got ALL excited, because you all know, of course, how much Rapunzel LOVES birthdays! And they made a joke about something getting "tangled." Ha-ha-ha. Sadly my Mom has not seen this movie yet so she didn't get all of their references. But I did! I was dying of happiness. I really need to watch that movie with my Mom next time I'm home!

Continued in Next Post

Yay Jess I was so excited to see you had updated! I just finished a research proposal and came on her for a reward lol and yay found you had updated.

I'm dying to do the Christmas party one year, we did the Halloween one this past trip and I completely loved it.

I love love love your pictures with the castle, especially the one where you caught the reflection in the water.

Too awesome that someone recognized you from the boards and how awesome that you got to meet Rapunzel and Flynn!!!:goodvibes

Haha I hope so! I mean, there's TONS of stuff to tell about between these two trips so it should be entertaining enough.

HAHA I LOVE YOUR MOM. Also, when we were at Epcot, she told me I would make a great Aurora. princess: Such nice compliments!! And you, my dear, would make such a great Belle! I can totally imagine you with the ponytail and blue dress singing and walking along with a book! The castle stage show would be so fun too, but you're right, they have more technical dance moves that would require a good technique, but you never know what you may pick up. Even though you don't have a lot of experience dancing, a lot of show business people can pick up the basics easily! Ahh I can't wait to see what you end up doing, and what I do if I end up going!! We've got a dreeeaaam, we've got a dreeeammmm, way deep down inside we've got a dream! :yay:

Ok, onto your update. AHH I MISS CHRISTMAS AT THE MK SO MUCH! AHHHH the castle dream lights! I agree, it makes it even more magical and Main Street is a whole other experience too. So beautiful.

That's super annoying that they didn't tell you where which characters were. I would have been frustrated too, even though I try not to stress over things like this in the parks, it's hard when you're an obsessed planner!

SHE'S ONE OF THOSE FRUMPS oh my god CA-LASS-IC.

I've never met the Genie, that is so awesome! And I love Jasmine's winter wrap thing!

Wow, Snow White's Prince Charming seriously looks 15 years old. That is hilarious!

How cute that Aurora said she made the cookies!!! Aww! That's good advice from Prince Philip, we do need to keep singing! haha

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH I KNEW THIS WAS COMING OH MY GOD. I was sooo jealous when you told me you met the ONE, THE ONLY... FLYNN RIDER aka EUGENE FITZHERBERT!!! Oh my God. I can't believe the crown was in the satchel. That is amazing. Disney is the BEST, I can't even deal with it. I'm all hyped up now LOL.

Also...hm... Rapunzel looks pretty short... how fun would it be to play her?! Maybe I'm the right height. Ahh! I just want to see the floating lanterns GLEAM!!!!!!

So I'm probably one of the aforementioned people who don't comment...partly because my internet connection is a pain during these winter storms!! So, I probably haven't commented once yet on this trip report!

Looks like so much fun with a Christmas trip, except, of course, the TRIP! Oh my, I would have probably passed out!

My mom was just talking to me about her dream of going during the holidays. What is your secret to cheap flying?? That's our problem! (Well, that and the fact that my mom's a teacher and it's extremely hard for her to get off work! :headache:)

Such a great trip report and can't wait to see more (FOOD) pictures!! That castle picture is so pretty!

Aww yay I'm so glad this could be your reward! :) I always love when I log on to the DIS and I have new comments/updates. It's the best!

You definitely will have to go to MVMCP someday! I actually like the halloween party a teeny tiny bit better... but both are AWESOME. :lovestruc

Aww thank you!

I know that was so cool! And yes, I love the two of them!

Haha aww Mother. That's so precious that she told you that. She sees the princess in everyone. princess: Too cute.
Aww thank you! BATB Live on Stage would be PERFECT for me because I'm obsessed with being in musicals and my dream role is Belle. Soooo I'll probably audition for that role as many times as I possibly can. Someday, someday.
Yeah I'm taking dance at school and then I'm probably going to do lessons over the summer so hopefully over time I will acquire the basic technique.
And I can't wait to see either! We have lots of potential - I'm sure great things will happen for both of us!
And PERFECT song! I've got a dream, I've got a dream, I just really want to work for Dis-neyyyyyyy

OKAY UPDATE TIME.

I miss it tooooo! I practically felt like I lived there this past December so looking at those pictures makes me just miss my home.

And I KNOW! I think just after a long day it frustrated me a lot more than it should have. I just wanted to make sure I got to do everything and they were making it very difficult!!

Aww yeah frump and a stacey quote in one sentence. PERFECTION.

I know, right!? He was precious but still he looked SO little.

Haha keep singing, keep singing! That's how we will find our princes!

Hahaha I love how much you love Tangled. It kind of makes my life. BEST MOVIE EVER! Isn't Flynn Rider just perfect?! Like... of COURSE they have a crown in the satchel like why wouldn't they!?

Ummmm lia...... WHY HAVE WE NOT THOUGHT OF THIS BEFORE!?! You could TOTALLY be Rapunzel. There ya go. That could be your princess!! I wonder what her height requirement is. We'll have to look it up!

So I'm probably one of the aforementioned people who don't comment...partly because my internet connection is a pain during these winter storms!! So, I probably haven't commented once yet on this trip report!

Hahaha don't even worry! I'm glad you're here and reading along!
It was SUCH a fun trip... and there's lots more to come! And LOL oh my trip. I'm such a frump!
You should definitely go during the holidays! It's SO amazing!
Well, the flights to Orlando are direct from my airport, and Southwest and Jet Blue usually have really reasonable rates, especially at random times of the year/weekdays. So we just keep an eye out and usually they are low enough.
Thank you so much! And oh there are TONS of food pictures to come! And thanks! :goodvibes

Wait .... you haven't seen Tangled ???? Young lady, as a loyal Disser this is simply unacceptable !! And HOW ... seriously .... it this possible ?? You must remedy this RIGHT away. I order a Disney movie night with Tangled first on the list - STAT !! Ohmigod ..... I love that movie !!! I LOVE it ! You have to see it !!

Yay, new update! :goodvibes

That cookie looks amazing!! Now I'm hungry. Plus it was free! Scoreee! I love free things. :lovestruc

The castle looks gorgeous! So perfect <3

That's so cool that someone recognized you from the Dis!

Woah Prince Charming looks so young! He looks to be around a junior in high school.

OMG YOU SAW RAPUNZEL AND EUGENE! I just saw Tangled today and it was soo good!! Pure genious.

Ugg I wish I was in Disney right now. :sad1:

Oh no no don't worry I have seen Tangled! I think like 4 or 5 times now. My MOM hasn't seen it. Which still is extremely unacceptable! I need to watch it with her soon because it's THE BEST MOVIE EVER! :lovestruc

Yay, new update! :goodvibes

Haha a delicious, free cookie. What else could you want in life, really?
The castle is perfect in every way! :lovestruc
Haha it was really awesome!
And yeah that's what I was thinking! He looks like he's 16 or 17 years old!
YES I DID!!! It was beautiful. That's the best movie! I need to watch it soon.
I wish I was too :(

I will not lurk on this trip report... I will not lurk on this trip report...

Hi! I've been reading your TRs for a while but I just recently made an account here so I decided to comment and not be a lurker. :thumbsup2 They are so entertaining!

I've never seen much of Disney World at Christmastime (both of my trips were in summer) so this is an added bonus. And the Mickey Santa hat is adorable! :goodvibes

Ahhhhhh the Christmas party. THAT'S THE STUFF.
I seriously think that the cookie and hot chocolate are some of the best I've ever had! DELICIOUS.
OMG, YOU GOT RECOGNIZED! "One of those frumps" HAHAHA! That's just perfect!
Mickey and Minnie's float is at the beginning of the parade! I think you saw more than you thought! :)
Tangled is the best movie ever. Like over the last year it's really gained on Little Mermaid for me. DID NOT see that coming, ever! hahaha
It's really funny though, because ALL of those characters are 'different' than the ones I met at the party the next week!
YAY can't wait to read more! :goodvibes

Oh my gosh MVMCP looks so magical!! I would've been stressed out too if that was the only time I'd get to go and didn't know what to do. But I agree, cookies always help. Especially after the insanely long day you and your Mom probably had!
Love that you got to meet some of the princesses and their princes! I love meeting the princesses and all but when their princes are there...well it's just 1,000 times better!:rotfl:
So glad you got to meet Rapunzel & Flynn too!! Meeting them on my birthday trip was probably one of my favorite memories ever. Even though we waited almost 3 hours, those two are definitely worth it. I really need to watch Tangled with my mother too, because I made a reference to the movie awhile ago and she had no clue! It's okay for dads to not know the princess movies I guess, but I feel like our mom's always have to be up to date! haha
Can't wait to read more!

How great to meet another diser by random! And I know how you felt about the party map since I felt the same way but luckily I knew which characters were where! I loved meeting the princesses with their princes! It was so much fun, and I think the princesses are better and more talkative when they have their princes! And Flynn Rider was great, I just love that movie:goodvibes

Hahaha, "she's one of those frumps". That would feel totally weird, for someone to recognize me.

You met Flynn Ryder?! That's so awesome. "You broke my smolder". :lmao: I love him. It's so disappointing that he's not there regularly anymore.

As soon as I clicked on this and realized it was you, I subscribed without reading any more! I've read every trip report you've written, I think, though I don't post much (you may remember a few months back when my daughter saw your picture on my computer screen and thought you were Jasmine!).

Now I am all caught up:yay:! Loving it! I think you and your mom have convinced me to try Sinaa!

We loved that Prince/Princess Meet and Greet when we went to MNSSHP. I'm close it in my TR, but it's been taking a while, and honestly I've been avoiding that whole night...you'll see why. We DID ask what was in the satchel and got an AMAZING crown shot! :cool1:

On another note, I am so glad you decided to change resorts! That looked so creepy!

I bet one day that I'll recognize you when you're there!

Yay!! Magic Kingdom + Christmas =

What a great couple of character meets!!! That's going to be our focus next trip! We always get so tangled (pun intended ;)) up on running aound and doing everthing that we forget about the characters!

How great that you were recognized!!! :goodvibes That's so cool!

I can't wait to hear more about your Christmas-y night!! :goodvibes

OMG!! This post made me decide I HAVE TO GO TO DISNEY WORLD FOR CHRISTMAS!!!! ok ok ok, my thoughts...
1) The decorations are amazing, fantastic, beautiful! Love them :lovestruc
2) No doubt about it, Prince Charming is checkin ya out in that first picture! Those silly princes.
3) I'm soooo excited you got to meet Flynn Rider!!! Did he make any comments about them never getting his nose right?

Hi! I'm new to the boards, but I've read all your completed TRs twice. They are so entertaining. Your trips look like so much fun, and your family and friends are so fun, too. I'm trying to turn all my kids into Disney lovers like you all! :cool1:

EEEEEEEIII! How fabulous that you got to meet the princes and Rapunzel with Flynn Ryder! Love, love, love it! Although, I would have made sure I was the one standing next to Flynn Ryder in the group shot, though.

Um, you need to make your mom see the movie, asap.

The cookies look delish.

How cool that you got recognized! Did it feel wierd? I was recognized once up here away from Disney by someone on the boards that read my TRs and it was a bit wierd at first because I wasn't expecting it. It was kinda surreal, especially because I feel like I don't have that many readers in general.

I need to do MVMCP one day!!! I would love to see that parade in person.

Ok, I haven't been on in a while so I have to catch up on your last three posts!

I'm happy to hear that you're loving your new school:goodvibes I hope everything continues to go well there!

The guy at the first place you went to sounds really creepy! I would have like screamed at him to get out of my room once he dropped the bags off:laughing:

I'm happy that you guys got in at Port Orleans! I bet that made you enjoy your trip more!

My family was probably leaving MK that night around the time you got there:laughing: Crazy!
