YOUR ultimate Disney announcement

If they won't get rid of the dining plans, I wish they would at least restructure the menus and have a section of things available on the dining plan and another section that is out-of-pocket only. I'd be happy to pay for more expensive ingredients and more unique dishes if they'd give me the opportunity to - I hate the way they've dumbed down the menus lately. .

Oh yeah, this would work for me, if they had seperate menus. Then I would go back to eating on property. To be honest, it's no big deal to leave property. Within 15 minutes I can be at a great place like Charlie's Steak House, or 20 minutes later I can be on I-Drive and Sand Lake (where there are a lot of yummy restaurants) but it would be nice to get something good at Disney again - the menu's just don't excite me.

I'd like to see a high-speed monorail between the TTC and The Villages. :thumbsup2

Actually, one of my WDW "dreams" is coming true-- a BATB themed restaurant! I've always thought the parks were missing Belle!

That's one of mine too. Belle has been my favorite princess since the first time I saw BATB, and I think that's the best of the Princess stories by far. I'm so happy it is getting more presence in the parks than that little storytime show at MK and the stained glass window in Epcot!

Wish they would give 10-15% dining discount to AP holders at ALL restaurants like they do at Disneyland.

YES! I'd also like them to bring back the 20% shopping discount for "standard" APs as opposed to just premium APs. They did it for a month or so last year, maybe, and I shopped like nobody's business. Now that it's back to 10%, I find myself passing on a lot of things that I might otherwise consider purchasing (mainly the higher-end stuff).

And it'll never happen, but I'd love to see Skyway come back. That's the one thing I miss more than anything else in all of the parks.

My wish list:

More countries at Epcot
A Villains park
More unique stuff in gift shops instead of the same thing
When I get married at wdw, I get to spend my wedding night in the Cinderella suite

-I love the double dipping idea. You book under a normal discount, and if you happen to get a pin you can still use it. That would be awesome!
-bogo park tickets. Like the "buy four get three free" deal. That should be standard.
-Perks for repeat guests

Those are my favorites

A Pixar character meal. Not just Toy Story, but one where they can rotate characters in and out (although people would probaby be upset if they couldn't be sure what characters would be there).

An "Up" attraction - maybe something halfway between Soarin' and Peter Pan, where Carl, Russell & Dug are your guides for a high-flying adventure. And outside would be a permanent meet & greet area for the Up characters.

Meet & Greet with Phineas & Ferb, Agent P and Doof! And replace the High School Musical/Camp Rock/whatever they're thinking Concert/Show at DHS with a Phineas & Ferb Concert/Show! I've said this before, but this would be great, and would appeal to all ages. I wanna be there when we all get to wave our hands in the air to "Snuck Your Way Right Into My Heart," and yell "Squirrels! Squirrels!" (S to the I to the M to the P!!)

There is no free lunch. In order to get 'free' dining, you have to pay horrendously high rack rates for the resort. In some limited circumstances and families, it may work out better to pay the rack rate and get the dining. In order to get more people interested in and wanting the 'free' dining, Disney raises the price horrendously in the restaurants, so as to drive more people to not want to pay for meals. More people take the bait and so as to maximize the profits, Disney lowers the quality and choices of what is available in the restaurants since so many people go for 'free'. And with the large number of people doing the 'free' dining, it requires everybody to be scrambling at 180 to secure DR's for every restaurant on site. For those not on the 'free' plan, it makes it tough to get a TS meal, without doing the 180. And if you do go to a TS, you are met with a very limited menu of low quality food.

That is why I do not like the 'free' dining. It works well for Disney, full resorts with guests paying high rack rates and filling up the restaurants eating low quality meals of a limited nature.

And then, one more item. With the driving of guests having to do the 180 for DR's, some restaurants fill up immediately (Le Cellier good example) and guests think there is something super special about a place. It becomes a self fulfilling thing, the venue becomes 'elite', even though it is worse than it use to be. Disney sees an opportunity, raises the prices even higher, for those paying out of pocket, and makes it a 2 TS credit item for those on the plan. :confused3

People newer to Disney would not fully understand as they have not experienced before 'free'.

Dan..you explained it so well!

I can remember sitting in a TS place and not knowing what I wanted to eat..so many good choices, now it is the opposite, I can't decide which of the 5 not so hot meals do I want to choose. I was so disappointed in Sci-Fi's menu this trip..probably won't go back there again. I didn't go to Le Cellier but looked at the menu on line and thought "what is so great about this?" We just bought into DVC and I can see us eating more offsite or in the room in the future.

Somewhere down the road I think a lot of Disney restaurants will be replaced by Denny's, Perkins, IHOP, Appleby's, Pizza Hut and the like. That's just the way I see it heading with the dining plans as they are.

Nah, they won't want to share the revenue to bring in big names like that. But I do think that's kind of where they're looking as far as their dining philosophy. They tried unique, high quality dining experiences and they got restaurants that were almost perpetually half-empty. Now they're trying familiar, safe, mass appeal menus with a focus on value (in comes the DDP, which is a consequence of this approach rather than a cause) and restaurants are booked solid weeks or months in advance.

I've only been to Disney once but here's my list:

Wall-E attraction (or some Wall-E merch)
More Muppet stuff
A few more thrill rides
Free dining anytime when you stay at a Disney resort
More places you can get a Dole Whip
Monorail access to more places
Refillable beer mugs

Families with more than 4 children get a second room or a suite for free!:cool1:
BOGO Park tickets.
The Pirate and Princess Party is back!
NO Dining Plans at all.
A Pirate's Character meal complete with Jack Sparrow.

What she said :cool1:

Very true, George.
