Hi..

Just wondering what your thoughts are about Freeport. We haven't been there in a long time. We were thinking of just going to the beach for part of the day.
We'll have our two kids with us as well, 13 and 15.

Thanks!

You will probably get alot of differing opinions but for us we loved Freeport more than Cozumel or Jamaica or Nassau for sure. It was a typical Carribean flavor type place and we had a blast. The people were very nice and helpful and even gave my 3 year old a bandaid when he turfed it on a store front. We did the dolphin encounter there and it was a great time. Afterwards we shopped at a little outdoor market along with regular brick and mortar stores and got some great deals on some perfume and watches. We thought it was a really charming place but some people swear they hate it and it was an awful experience. We didnt do any beach stuff because we have tiny kids (9,7,3) but the town was alot of fun to shop in and walk around in.

Years ago we took a non-Disney cruise that stopped in Freeport;
what we saw--I think it was some kind of botanical garden tour--was nice. I've heard a lot of people rave about the Our Lucaya
excursion here on the boards.

Like you, bigsky, we're most likely going to look into the beaches. Maybe pack a lunch from the ship and have a low-key kind of day with our little family (DH, me, DD13).

Anyone out there have any beach location suggestions?:confused:

I am also interested in any info or suggestions on Freeport!

Has anyone snorkeled Treasure Reef.... Is there a good place just to go to the beach for a couple hours? I hear the ship is docked at an industrial type area that is not nice. And, just how long is the taxi ride? It is only suppposed to be a few miles, but seems I heard that it was a 20 minute ride?

Hey lulu201..
Our very first cruise was in '89. We went on Carnival and went to Freeport. We also did some botanical tour. Some of our excursions today, that was nothing. I remember we did that, and then spent some time at the beach.

I think like you said, just have a low key day. Get some lunch from the ship. I just want to spend as much time at the beaches as possible. We miss them when we lived in Southern Calif.

Any suggestions of certain beaches in Freeport would be greatly appreciated! :Pinkbounc

I've went to Our Lucaya and we had a great time. My daughter was only 2 then but she loved the pool and the beach. It was one of the few excursions that we could do with her other than shopping (how boring for a 2 year old!) The beach is a few steps away from the pool and they have food right there (overpriced as it was.) There were plenty of chairs there to relax on and the water was great. Nassau on the other hand I would never bother to step of the boat onto again!

I did the Lucayan Beach Excursion in June and loved it. I had been to Freeport before and wasn't impressed, but this was my first DCL cruise and I decided to do something off the ship for one day and this was it. Great pool, beach and lunch. Some die-hard DCL fans would say to just stay on the ship that day. Since I have already done this excursion, I will probably stay on board next time (already paid for pool and food). But if you're looking to get off the ship, Lucayan is a great tour.
