Your pet's "given" name vs nickname

Yes, however, that's because we give our pets rather large and complicated given names.

Cat 1 - Meryl "Derringer Meryl" Strife (nickname: Meryl, Kitten, Miss Meryl)
Cat 2 - Gwenhwyfar (nicknames: Gwen, Little One, Gwen the Psycho)
Ferret 1 - Pantalaimon (nickname: Pan)
Ferret 2 - Gandalf the Grey (nickname: Gan)

It's kind of a trend amongst our friends. For instance, I'm aunt to:

Friend's cat - Crunchy Taco (nickname: Crunch)
Friends other cat - The Mighty Yetite (Nickname: Yeti)

We tend to just add syllables to our pet's names or change them slightly.

Thunder(the dog) is Thunder-Wonder or Thundie

Onyx is Onyx-Bonyx

Pharaoh--is Phar-Bear, Pharoney and now Princess. He is a boy cat, but loves to lay on my pink and lavendar quilt;)

Blythe is Blythie-Wythie

Antonio is the only one we just call by his name or sometimes the name "NO!" LOL

1) Boxer, registered name: Captain Jack Sparrow Fries and is called Jack, you******* or dumdum, or by my middle DD Bubby.
2) Boxer, rescue: Ms. Gracie is often called GraceFace
3) Louise, calico cat, is called Weezie or Fatty.
4) Boone, rescue name, was called BubbyJay right off the bat and always has been.
5) GusGus, youngest DD's cat, exotic shorthair, named after Cinderella's mouse GusGus, for some reason ends up being called "Goose".
6) Kilo, eldest DD's cat, a rescue polydactyl, is called CrazyCat. He's very hyper and mean to the other animals.
We have a houseful, I know....:rolleyes1

We're dull. My mom has the cats now, and they are Phoebe and Moebe ("Moby"). We sometimes call them Phoebs and Moeb, and since DD used to say "Beebee" when she was little, we sometimes call Phoebe that, too.

We have 5 dogs, 3 that were rescues.

1) Harley: male Rottweiler also answers to Bubba
2) Haley Grace: female Chihuahua also answers to Missy
3) Emma Faith: female Chihuahua also answers to Emmie and also Boo because she is white and she arrived the week before Halloween!
4) Lucy: female Chihuahua Doxie who we are convinced her full name is supposed to be Lucifer!!! She answers to Lucy Lu Curly Q because of her curly q tail
5) Bentley: male Chihuahua Pomeranian answers to "B" and we also joke that he should be named Ricky because he arrived with Lucy!

Most of ours have nicknames.

Blackie is Moo or Queen Crabby (she is the oldest of our cats).
Angel is also Zoom (Next is line for the Queen Crabby title)
Tinker is My Little Man, Tinker Boo or Tink Tink
Miss Priss is Princess
Simba is our Sweet Boy or Mama's Sweet Boy
Twiggy is Twig Twig
Williow is Little Wee
Bashful is Bashful Boy or Bashful Boo
Gracie is my little sweetheart
George is my pudge or pudgito

Our outside kitty is Miss Kitty and her nickname is Daddy's little girl.

Our dog Dahlia or Dalie.

My dog is a black standard poodle and her name is Darci. Her nickname is "Dar-Dar", Dee-Dee" or "Darce" . When she needs to be groomed we also call her "Fluffer-Nutter".

Socks is also known as wuss puss for the obvious. Tippy became Tippy tail or empress puss, because she has an ego the size of St Paul's cathederal. Queenie is also grumpzilla because for a tabby cat she is a grumpy old moo at times.

One of our dogs is named Cosmo. We got him from an organization that trains service dogs (he flunked) and he had been trained with that name, so we kept it. He also answers to "Cosmonaut" though.

The other dog is Violet... and is more often called "Vi", but that's not super exciting.

we also have a cat, whose original name was thomas o'malley, and we called it tom. then, upon 1st vet visit, we found out tom was actually female, so, in keeping with our aristocats theme, tom became duchess. however, i usually call her "stuck up witch" (with a "b"), because she does her own thing and doesn't want anything to do with anyone. other than the occasional meow for food if the bowl isn't filled regularly (which it normally is), she refuses to acknowledge our existence.

This thread is great!

I have two cats called Salem and Loki - who also get called Little Bew and Big Bew.

Err, they also have their 'adult movie' names... because cats can be such tarts (!) but that's a whole different story... :rotfl:

Our dog Lily is "Dingo" and DH's cat Trillian is (to me, not to DH) is "Hairball" or "Bedbug."

Junior is Junie
Boo Boo is Boo-Bee
Brody is Bwody or Satan or Spawn
Jelly (beta fish) Mr. Fishy

We have an 11 year old Chihuahua whose "official" name is Bowser. We've never called her that - EVER! She answers to Puppy, Puppa, 'lil 'lil, and more recently Sausage. DS9 came up with Sausage because his Mamaw kept feeding her table scraps & she was getting fat as a sausage.

We called my late cat Mackey by the name "Schraeger" all the time.

Back in the 70's, my parents had friends named The Schraegers - and their cats walked all over the kitchen counters. My mother - not a cat person - refused to eat anything from their house. When I first brought Mackey home, he jumped on the counter and my mother shrieked, "My God, he's just like a Schraeger!", and it stuck for 15 years. :rotfl2:

Currently, my Blackie gets called "Mr. Schmack".

My newest cat's adoption papers have him listed as Sunny D. I feel like I can't change his name right away, due to his age. He's 4, and used to being Sunny D. I've been calling him Sunny Doodle, hoping that at some point I can drop the Sunny, and just call him Doodle. :)

- Laura

our dogs AKC name is Endless Mountain Mucho Gusto - we call him Gus. Or his nickname is Goose.

Our cat is named Roslyn and we have quite a few nicknames for her. We call her rosalina, lina, lina pie, lina teresa, lina teresa jones, my sweet pet, and the good son.

She is a month away from turning 19 and is REALLY skinny these days so we sometimes refer to her as skeletor. I know that sounds AWFUL and we really do love her to pieces, but you can really feel her bones when you hold her now. :sad1:

One of our dogs is named Cosmo. We got him from an organization that trains service dogs (he flunked) and he had been trained with that name, so we kept it. He also answers to "Cosmonaut" though.

The other dog is Violet... and is more often called "Vi", but that's not super exciting.

We have a Cosmo, too, but he's more of a CosmoNUT. I call him spasmo sometimes, like when he is barking at the broom, the vaccuum, etc.
Our late pup, Bandit, was Frito Badito or Bandy.
Our younger pup, a resuce, is named Sally. SHe is usually Sweet Sally but sometimes Silly Sally.
They've all PITA when I am in a bad mood!;)

Socks is also known as wuss puss for the obvious. Tippy became Tippy tail or empress puss, because she has an ego the size of St Paul's cathederal. Queenie is also grumpzilla because for a tabby cat she is a grumpy old moo at times.

We had a cat who was actually called Tippy Tail when I was little. He had a tiny white tip to the end of his tabby tail.
