Your most foolish Purchase

My husband bought a couple thousand dollars worth of old legos on ebay...

I've just found how to pay for our upcoming trip! Seriously, my mil has a shopping addiction that goes back years. Legos for my dh when he was little is no exception. I have one of those heavy duty plastic storage boxes/crate - the largest you can get with the lid - so full of his old legos that it's piled above the boxes top about 8 inches. We're talking thousands upon thousands of pieces. I keep them wrapped in a fullsize sheet, in the box, so when the kids spread it out, they have to keep it on the sheet so I can roll it up when they're done. That poor sheet is absolutely covered when spread out. I probably need to change it to a king. But now I'm seriously thinking I should sell them all since the kids rarely even play with them.

Mine would probably be close to the lego spending. I did the same thing but with Cherished Teddies (teddy bear statues)

I have been a teddy bear collector but in 06/07 I went through a crazy-shopping time and just bought hundreds of them. (I have over 300 now) lol I havent bought one in over a year..almost 2... but I think that's only because someone hacked into my ebay account and got me kicked off hehe

LOL I did that too, and now they sit all boxed up in my garage :( I started my collection in 1995 or so....haven't bought one in the past couple of years (although have gotten them as gifts).....and just don't have the room to display them all. I keep thinking I'll sell them but then once I start looking at them I just love them all.....they are so cute LOL

I hope my next isn't this week. I have been shopping for a car for the last two weeks. . .drove several and decided on a practical Taurus in my price range (didn't want to finance). BUT I went to a car auction with my mom on a whim and ended up buying a repo 2004 Hyundai Elantra. .. dang near sight unseen. I've never driven it. . but I pick it up tomorrow.. .wish me luck!

I had a 2003 Elantra that I loved, loved, loved!!! I still miss that car!
That car saved me and my girls lives! We were rear ended by a school bus while evacuating from Hurricane Rita. The whole back end of the car crumpled, but the passanger cabin was totally intact. Out of the four of us, I was the only one with injuries, and I believe that was because I saw it coming in the rear view mirror and tensed up...
I wanted to buy another Elantra, and would have, but let my hubby talk me into a Sante Fe. While I like my Sante Fe, I LOVED my Elantra!

Mine are mostly weight loss related.....that certainly is my "desperation" hot button! Now if I could find something that works I would be elated and WOULD pay top $$ for it.

I did attend private colleges for both undergrad and two MAs and I don't AT ALL think they were a waste of $$. I have a solid career that I used for over 16 years and even though I am a SAHM now, I do plan to return at some point.

DH got his MA at a very pricey private school after we got married.....but it was top rated and in his field he needed that.....again, not a waste of $$ at all.

Five Coach bags at one time. They were on sale, and I lost my mind. More than foolish, I'd call a waste, and I learned my lesson but good!!!! It's back to Target for my handbags.

I did this same thing, but it was Dooney & Bourke and was five handbags & a wallet. Luckily, two were for gifts, but that still left me with 3!!!

The most foolish purchase for me was a Hilton timeshare bought from the developer last year. An every other year 1 bedroom for 12,000+. Luckily, I realized my mistake and was able to rescind the purchase. I ended up buying a 2 bedroom every year resale for less than 1/2 the price. I traded it to get to stay in a 2 bedroom BCV starting next week. Can't wait!!!!

Last year I bought a pair of shoes that didn't fit! I knew they were the wrong size, but they were such a good deal.

What was I thinking? How stupid. Like I could wear shoes that were too small.

Luckily they were only $8, but that was a good price for Crocs. (But not a good price for a pair you can't wear.)

I have a few lol.

12 place settings of Fiestaware in a rainbow of colors. With matching glasses and a bunch of serving pieces. Pretty to look at, but too big and heavy to be practical with small kids. They also don't fit well in our dishwasher. We've been using open-stock Corelle from the Outlet mall for years while the Fiestware gets used a few times a year!

Bosch mixer/blender. That thing cost a bundle and is usually too big for what I need, so I use my Kitchenaid mixer instead. And a Whispermill grain mill to go with it. The lid assembly broke and I have never replaced it. Not that I spend a lot of time grinding wheat for homemade bread anyway. What was I thinking??

Bought a new GMC Yukon 6 years ago when I found out I was pregnant with my first and planned on having multiple children. Well, things changed and we will only have the one child and a huge truck that costs me a fortune to drive around town and we can't sell for anything now! Ugh! I would have loved a used Mercedes!!!

We are a family of 6 but I just took our 4 year old Suburban(low miles, no accident) to CarMax and we got 14K for it then we got a minivan and the dealer bought the car from us for what CarMax was offering.

We did the same thing, but leased a Honda Pilot. DD and I pretty much stayed home all of summer 2008 when gas was $4+ a gallon! Sometimes I need to drive around DD to get her to fall aleep, nothing like spending $3 just to get your kid to bed! LOL

The lease was just up and I don't miss it at all!

My couch...I got frustrated shopping with Dh, we couldn't agree on anything so I paid $950 for a beige couch (with 5 kids, what was I thinking???) with recliners on each end, and on one end the back comes off because we've already messed it up. I hate this couch, it isn't even comfortable. Plus I've seen others that I like better for much cheaper.

OMG...I can think of sooo many but the 3900 couch that lasted 3 months takes the cake!

haHA! pp,I too have couches that I paid too much for,and don't like!:scared1: what was I thinking, other than" I HATE couch shopping with DH,let's just buy these right here..."
suffice to say, they are very pretty, and have held up as well as a wet paper towel in a house with boys, their friends, and dogs who jump up all the time(tapestry??? I'm a dunce) anyway- my friend bought some great couches at about the same time,I wish I had her couches!
Also, that 'bargain' bedspread last season that lasted 2 months before it was all torn up......and tossed......must remember my dog and kid limitations on fabric and quality, and forget prettiness:laughing:

:thumbsup2I have to agree my living room furniture purchase was a hasty decision that I have regretted ever since and I can't buy new because I spent way too much and it has only been 5 years UGH!!!

I am ashamed the Long term gym membership had gotten me on 3 different occasions. I always tell myself I am going to go and it lasts about 2 months.
i am paying on one now i am not using! Hmm maybe I'll go tomorrow.

Also when my husband and I first got married we bought so couches from one of those rent to own places. I hated those things and by the time I realized how much we were going to pay on them to own them fully I had already paid a substancial amount of money so i refused to return them. To live and learn.

My original tickets to go to Disney World back in 1990. I would have so much more money if only I had NOT made that purchase. LOL

Most foolish........A hot tub! geezus what were we thinking?!?!?!

Second foolish, The PS2 when the ps3 was coming out. we NEVER play it! it was used 2 times!!!!

Third foolish, the ultra expensive earth dog collar.

Fourth foolish, all the flippin littlest pet shop stuff for the niece that just sits unboxed, and unplayed with at the bottom of her closet!

And unless i get my butt camping this weekend, i am going to add pop up camper to the list!
I'm interested in the pop-up....where do you live????:goodvibes

Buying a Netbook (mini laptop, only a 10" screen), which wouldnt have been bad, only the next day at work i realized my days had been cut, from 6-8 days, down to 4. yeah i was a little hasty with that one. i rationalize this purchase by saying that the netbook will be the perfect size to take to disney lol

Furniture. Ashley was having an awesome deal last year at this time. Well lets just say im still paying for it and the couch is a big disappointment. A cushion breaking down and pretty much flat after a year?! wow. rip off!

Pretty much everything i have put on credit cards over the years. I seriously have no money management skills. I need major help haha.

Student loans so i could live. Hmm should probably just stayed at home with mom and dad insted of getting loans to pay bills/rent. Ugh the many mistakes i will pay for forever!!

well let me go into teh pop up a little more, i bought it very cheaply, so lots of work to get it looking like a luxury place. after the dogs got sick and i had to cancell our last planned trip i decided i will do a major overhaul. I am planning on updating everything, it will be a total camper make-over. And we WILL go for our first trip next spring!!!

But seriously if you guys are wanting a camper, LOOK NOW! I am seeing lots of really nice ones for just a tad bit over what I paid for the fixer upper.

A house in VA for 248k that we sold 10 months later for 252k.:scared1: We lost a lot of money bc of the realtor commission.

Wilton cake pans.

I went to the Wilton outlet sale before I had kids and while I was taking Wilton classes. I bought a BOATLOAD of pans and supplies. Ten years later - they are in my garage waiting for me to sell them. I think I only used one of them!
