Your Most Disappointing Restaurant

Jiko, Brown Derby, Boma and LTT.

But on the other hand, I'm glad we tried them. Now we know. The ones that are REALLY popular, are also the ones that are REALLY disliked. Usually with these it's a love/hate relationship, but you don't know until you try.

I always try restaurants once, then I know where they stack up in my list. I have my "not to be missed", then there's the ones I can count on for a good meal if needed, depending where I am, and then there's didn't like, but will try again if someone REALLY wants to, and then the never try again.

These 4 are my never try again.

The Turkey Sandwich at MGM's Sci-Fi Drive-In was so bad that it actually tasted like it was left over from the 1950's era of B-movies that the restaurant features. Fortunately, the neat atmosphere made up for the disappointing meal.

Our only dissapointment was Sci-Fi Dine in Theatre. Although the theming was really cool the food was just O.K. Just eat at Prime Time or Hollywood and Vine instead!

expensive,
costs 20$ pp if you try to cancel same day( which I tried to do after looking at the menu that morning)
LOUD
Rushed and snooty service

My dinner was horrible, DH grilled pork tenderloin however was delicious.
Weather has to be right to go out on the cat walk to watch Wishes,
they didn't dim the lights inside so you could really see out.

Lots of tables with no view,,,ours was one.
Way to many kids making lots of noise.

For that much money, I would have liked just a little atmosphere.

Olivia's and Ohana's. I thought Olivia's was way too pricy for what we got and Ohanas just was not that great.

CA Grille - Most disappointing meal and service I have ever had.

1. BOMA!!! (been once)
2. Akershus (been once)
3. CRT (been once)
4. Whispering Canyon Cafe (been twice)
5. Rose and Crown (been three times, we must be gluttons for punishment!)
6. LTT for dinner (it was horrible, but this is now one of our must visits for lunch!!)
7. Sci-Fi for dinner (great sandwiches and milkshakes for lunch-we've been here a lot and the menu seems to change almost everytime)
8. Coral Reef (both times we ate here were HORRIBLE!!!!)

Most Impressed: (I had to throw this in, can't be completely negative ;) )

1. California Grill
2. O'hanas
3. Chefs de France
4. Le Cellier

***********Also, you have to TRY places. It may be disappointing spending so much money and time at a place only to have it be way below your expectations but that's the only way YOU will know if you like it or not. We have SO many places we do like that now we just try one or two new ones every time we go so that we still have plenty of meals where we know we'll love it.

I have to say I love the California Grill too! (and Jiko, and many others that some folks here do not) It's all relative. :thumbsup2

Now for my worst disappointment? Citricos. I expected to love it, but it was pretty boring. Bland food. Meat meat and more meat. I eat meat, but this was so uninspired as to be comical. The service was good though, and we will try it again....I just wasn't as impressed as I expected to be. I thought I would walk out of there really wowed.

The other restaurant I dislike is Chef Mickeys. (for dinner, breakfast was fine) The food was terrible but the crazy atmosphere may have altered my perception of the food, lol. Too loud, too bright, etc etc. Live bug in my shrimp. Tasteless mac and cheese. Tasteless pizza. (yeah, I know, that's what kids like, right? lol) The turkey was nice and tender though, so I got to eat some of that. Not enough sides. The dessert bar was pretty boring too. Rice krispie treats? whatever. I'll go to breakfast again only because dd loves it, but never again dinner.

Our biggest disappointments happened in the same day!

San Angel Inn- our local Mexican restaurant has better food for a fraction of the price. Plus DD thought that was a REAL volcano, so she fussed the whole time.

Then that evening we went to Coral Reef. 2 adults 1 child=$75. This was the worst seafood we've ever had. I can't even recall what we got, but everyone just picked at it. I don't think it was the food itself- I think that we just don't like THOSE recipes. Give me a small restaurant along the Gulf coast any day over that experience! :confused3

The first time we went to Brown Derby we thought we had found heaven. So beautiful, so cool and relaxing and the Cobb salad was delish. We loved it so much that we went back 4 more times...each time was not just mediocre, it was bad. For the price, we will not be back.

I hope people that read these bad reviews do so with a grain of salt. As some have pointed out, we all have different tastes. Most reviews don't say when they encountered their bad experiences, and menus and management change. I for one was never one to rave over Ohana, but our meal there in December of 05 was great, and the bread pudding still makes my mouth water just thinking about it.

For example, I had always avoided Liberty Tree Tavern because of bad reviews. Well, I guess my tastes must lean towards "mediocre" because our lunch there was absolutely the highlight of our trip. Even though the place was packed, our server did a GREAT job, the menu was innovative, with fresh choices and interesting twists on old favorites (birch beer! My kids and husbands loved it). Our lunch was awesome, the food came out fresh and delicious. I hope that this wasn't an aberration, because that will be the first ressie on my list when we go back...

Breakfastasaurus in AK. The characters were so incredibly rushed that we were EXTREMELY disappointed. The food was good with a decent selection, though.

As someone who has worked in both corporate restaurants as a host, prep cook, server and grill cook, and mom and pop restaurants. i would have to say that gloves are "optional" some places and non optional others. i personally change my gloves depending on what im doing. i think i go through more of them than the average person is supposed to. and at one corporate restaurant, you were required to wear a hairnet. of course a majority of restaurants pass health inspection. if you managed a restaurant and knew that the health inspector was coming that day, you would make sure that all your employees were following protocal. why do you think restaurants get a "big clean" before VPs and Pres. of the company come. i've never gone from carving roast beef to chopping tomatoes wearing the same gloves. but i do rinse them. i mean, if im slicing oranges and my gloves get sticky before i chop tomatoes, i think its ok. but, think about all the things that you are talking about i.e. sneezing, touching hair.. don't you think servers touch things all the time. or what about the people who own carts in the city that you buy food from. one day when i was working i accidently sneezed in my hand ( instead of turning my head and sneezing into my shoulder) and when i walked away i washed my hand. but the man at the table goes to me, " serve the food with the other hand. you sneezed in that hand. " i was highly offended. im not an unsanitary person. and i don't like to pass germs like that. so, i said to him.." sir, i washed my hands as soon as i got into the kitchen. i like to be clean." but anyway, before i ramble on...
i just wanted to say thank you to shelligirl for raising concerns. 3 of my ADRs were on this list from multiple ppl. that being ohanas, chef mickeys and sci fi. i think i feel a little better after i read others responses to her.

The only disapointment that I have had with WDW dining was Concourse Steakhouse.Very expensive and not so good.

They charge Ruth's Chris prices with Ponderosa service.

This was a repeat for us, and it was not the same. I suspect that being part of the Dining Plan has made this once exclusive steakhouse suffer. The food quality is still excellent, but the wait staff is too busy.

After finishing dinner we spent 15 minutes watching our server bus tables and reset them, completely ignoring us until I went and got her for the check.

C'mon Disney, in a restaurant with these prices, the water glass should never go below half full!

I would have to say it is hands down the Hoop Dee Do Review. The show was OK but the food was blah. In fact the food was so bad that our DD 9 and DS 6 now call this the Poop Dee Do Review.

Rose and Crown. The steaks were tough and gamey-tasting. I switched an ADR at Flying Fish for what DH and I felt was terrible, over-priced food at R&C. Also, they sat us outside in what felt like a lobster-shack. Very disappointed and won't be back.

I'd have to say Rain Forest in DTD. Below average food and terrible service!

We've had good luck there going very late, like a 10:30 or 10:45 adr. They do close down one of teh buffet stations around then, but the characters have lots of time for you, and for us it's lunch as well as breakfast.

:)
