I agree completely! I'm not a fan of cargo pants/shorts, and most women's pants/shorts have very tight pockets! Also, I like to carry a lot of stuff with me and a bag is nice to be able to tuck a bottle of water into. I don't think the bag lines add that much time to my day anyway.
I have gone with a small bag, and I have gone with none, and I do prefer both. I don't really mind the bag line so much at MK or HS, but it seems no matter how early or late I go, the lines at AK and especially Epcot are LONG. Reasons I like to go bagless:
1.)Once I see that gate and those turnstyles, I get anxious and excited and I always manage to pick the line that has the person with three backpacks and multiple zippers and a cooler, and they don't have any of it open until they are in front of the CM - then they stand in that spot till its all zipped back up and tucked away in its proper place under the stroller......it probably only takes them two minutes but it seems like an hour to me when I am that close.
2.) When I took a small cross body bag, it became so crammed with stuff, it was not easy to close. When I switched up to a small cloth backpack, that became " would you put this heavy thing (like bottles of water) in your bag?" By my not carrying one, it made everyone re-evaluate what they really needed and they carried it in their own pockets.
3.) I don't have to keep track of a bag and hope it stores in the little cargo nets on the rides, or gets hung up on them when I try to get off. If I buy anything, I have it sent back to the room.
4.) We are rope droppers and we take a mid day break every time. This allows me to carry less, as I will be back in my room within 5 or 6 hours so I don't feel like I have to have the kitchen sink with me. I put on sunscreen before I leave in the morning, and carry one small package of it in my pocket.
All this is just my preference, I've seen some really nice bags that people are happy with, especially the ladies. And I've seen some backpacks on some of the Dads that probably weigh 20 pounds, bless their hearts. If I can, I go without. I agree with you that I am usually not a fan of cargo shorts either, and women's usually have fewer pockets and are snug making the pockets uncomfortable when I sit down. I do wear men's cargo shorts on our trips, I am "ample" enough igure that they fit pretty well and they have lots of pockets. I carry credit cards and an ID and a little cash in a lanyard.
