Hello there everyone. I just thought that I'd start a post about your first stay at a WDW resort (I'm sure its been done before, but what the heck)
My upcoming trip in December will be my 4th trip to WDW (3 as an adult, 1 as a child). My first trip was a fun filled stay at the Polynesian that almost didn't happen.
I think it occured sometime in the 70's, but I'm not really sure exactly when. Our family went on one of our annual summer driving vacations from Michigan. (Ever see Vacation with Chevy Chase? Not that bad, but you get the idea). Our destination was the Smoky mountains for a fun filled week of camping and more camping. Once we arrived in TN, this 10 year old wasn't impressed with the mountains. Mainly because I couldn't see them due to all of the rain. With a week of rain in the forecast, my parents ordered us back in the car and kept driving... destination unknown.
When we finally stopped driving, I was thrilled to see a sunny sky and under that sky... Disney World. Since this was a spur of the moment thing (and the middle of summer), my dad drove us right up to the Polynesian to find us a room. I sat wide eyes in the lobby, taking in the sights and my dad as he stood in line. I knew something was wrong when he left the counter with a sad look on his face. He told us that no rooms were available and that you had to book months in advance to get a room in the summer. Even with a sunny sky, it suddenly felt very overcast again.
Then my first ever Disney magic moment happened. I'm not exactly sure of the details, but apparently someone in line overheard us talking. That someone was in line to cancel his room for the week for some reason. Instead of just cancelling, with a little Disney magic, he took my dad to the counter and transferred his reservation to us. We went from a state of awe to utterly depressed and back to complete joy right there in the lobby of the Polynesian.
I don't remember much of the vacation except spending hours on the rock water slide in the pool, riding the monorail all over, and holding onto tickets for the rides. The little kid (me) grew up and spent his honeymoon at WDW. In December, we will spend our belated 10 year anniversary trip at the WL (you may have seen my posts worrying about where to stay).
Well, that was my first trip. How about yours?
