So, here I am sitting on my balcony in Bavaria eating a late dinner of Obazda, Brezn, and Allgäuer Käsespätzle (yes, I know, a carbfest! ;) ), reading emails from two friends about our upcoming trip to WDW in September. Plans are to eat at Biergarten.... where they serve.....

macaroni and cheese! :lmao: I like the food at Biergarten, and some of the items such as spelt salad, tomato salad, the rye bread, etc are actually quite authentic. Other items, such as the 'Wiener Schnitzel' made with chicken, is not. As with some of the desserts. The servers there often chuckle with me over the 'German' food which is not really German, but shall we say 'German inspired'

So, what are your favourite, really authentic foods at WS? Or what don't you like because it doesn't taste like home?

I'll make my answer to my questions in a seperate post

What I like
  • Rüdesheimer Kaffee at Biergarten - not really too difficult to get that one wrong!
  • I used to like the Brezn there, but lately they have been very stale and even the servers warn me in German not to order them
  • above mentioned spelt salad and tomato salad and rye bread

What disappoints me at WS
  • the warmed over crepes which they serve at the crepe stand in France - EuropaPark in Germany makes theirs fresh and they are miles better (as are fresh crepes in the real France)
  • macaroni and cheese pretending to be a German dish
  • the espresso drinks in Italy - a cappucino in Rome drunk at noon will keep me awake until 3am, believe me! The only really good one I had at WS was made by a fellow who lives in the Italian Tirol; he was so excited that I have been to his town many times and chattered away in German (yes, many in the Italian Tirol are German language first)

The world showcase food is as authentic as disney will let it get.
If they go totally authentic they get too many complaints.

Biergarten is fantastic..we grew up on german food..and we love going there.
