This is so funny!...Dh and I live in the Uk and can't stand most of our TV!..we Watch all American shows...House, Dexter, The Mentalist, Lost, Desperate Housewives, Heroes, The Good wife, The Middle, King of queens, All of these blow our rubbish Uk tv out of the water!:rotfl:

Anyone wanna swap countries?

My whole family loves Top Gear. Watching Cameron Diaz and Tom Cruise run the track was hilarious last night! Along with many of the shows others have mentioned, I am also now really into Law and Order UK. It is similar to the US version, and the stories are really good, and the acting is incredible.

We like "The Vicar of Dibley".
This is a good show.

Also, I've not seen anyone mention Doc Martin!! DH and I love this show!!

And I second the mention of As Time Goes By with Judi Dench and Geoffrey Palmer.

That is funny, Tinker. :goodvibes

Hey, can you tell me why British shows only have like 6 or 8 shows a season? And how some shows will go two years between filmings? I think of Doc Martin that did this as well as As Time Goes By.

I try and imagine what your television scheduling must look like? Like here, for instance, you know that House is going to hold the 10pm spot for at least 16 to 20 weeks with new shows, and then through the summer with reruns, as there are generally 16 to 20 episodes per season. I know some shows can have as many as 32 episodes in a season. So, DH were just kind of wondering why?

Thanks!

My favorite UK show hasn't been shown in years, but I used to love watching "Shelly" it was hilarious. I wish it was available on DVD.

Is this where I admit I got into Primeval after seeing Connor's actor in Alice on SyFy?

We are another British family who watch lots of American shows.

Lots of the radio 4 comedies are great.

Some current British tv I'm enjoying include Whitechapel (a detective series set in London) and Downton Abbey (a bit like upstairs downstairs).

As for why series are only 6 or so episodes I'm not sure, I guess it comes down to money but 6 is the usual number of episodes in a series.

Top Gear UK is the single greatest television show EVER in the history of mankind!!!

That's quite an endorsement! I have it on Netflix, I'll check it out tonight.

House was a rerun last night, but I ended up watching the Giants game with DH.

Thanks SO much for sharing all these shows! I have a lot to check out! I have turned into a real Anglophile lately and thanks to the internet, I can get my UK fix! :happytv:

In addition to a lot of others mentioned here, I'd like to add a short lived, but great show: The Young Ones.

I suppose its down to money...Those big american shows generate a LOT of money...UK tv is really small fry..they just don't have the budget. Plus they don't have anywhere near the following and fans that things like House and Lost have.
Some of the old british dramas I remember from the 80's were actually very good. But they tended to be just a few parts rather than shows that ran for seasons.
Try "one summer" for a very realistic look at Liverpool in 80's Britain. Or one of my faves "soldier soldier " from the 90's...LOVED that. Very realistic portayal.
Ran for I think about 7 seasons..the early seasons are the best.

Simon Cowell, Helen Mirren, Ron Weasley from Harry Potter, Dumbledore from Harry Potter, Tom Cruise Cameron Diaz, Gordon Ramsey, Lionel Richie, Christian Slater, Patrick Stewart, Jamie Oliver, Tom Jones, James Blunt, Ewan McGregor, Jay Leno, Guy Richie -- and that is just off the top of my head! What more do you want?

Today I watched one with two people on from the Friday show? No clue who they were. I'm not a harry potter fan no clue who Helen is maybe to see her but off the top of my head nope. Most of the people who were on the season 13 opener I had no clue.

I started watching Robin Hood from a few years ago and I really liked it! Truth be told, I started watching it because of Richard Armitage (North and South), but my whole family ended up enjoying it. It was a decent family show, not too much violence, gory anyway, and it was funny!

I also like MI-5.
