Your favorite thing to do in Nassau

If you get off and walk around, be careful. When we were there 4 years ago, the way people drove was insane and they definitely did not give any right away to people walking.

We went to the Queen's staircase just last month. It was an easy walk from the port, the views were great from the top and - best of all - it was free. Then we got back on the ship in time for lunch and a quiet afternoon by the pool.

We did this on our last trip and also really enjoyed it. :sunny: After the queen's staircase, we continued on walking to John Watling's Distillery, not so much for the alcohol but because a scene from a James Bond was filmed there. The Distillery is also very interesting though. Then we walked to Junkanoo Beach. The whole thing took at most two hours. We still had a long afternoon by the pool. We had planned on hitting a few other stops but decided to go back to the ship. I know a lot of people stay on the ship, but there really is a lot to see in Nassau if you want to walk around a bit.

I already mentioned this on another one of your threads-

I haven't done an 'excursion' at Atlantis, but I have stayed there several times. If you don't plan on staying there with the grandkids anytime soon- do the day pass!!!

It's an amazing place!!!!!!!

I loved our day at the Waterpark at Atlantis. 3 boats (2 of which were Disney) were in port and it was not crowded at all.

You can get your passports stamped at a building at the terminal. It is to the left as you are walking from boat into Nassau.

Graycliff Chocolate tour .... so Yumm, and had time to shop a bit before and after the tour

You do not need a passport, just ID. On our last cruise disney said don't bring them because of crime (letter left on bed with navigator).

I Agree, We were just there on April 29th and all you needed was your photo ID, we used drivers licenses. If you want you take passports to get them stamped at the customs building, but I would opt to get the passports stamped and get them back on the ship in the room safe, then go out and tour. A bit more leg work but, I'm one who errs on the side of caution though.

Tell me about the Hilton. Why there ? Is that a Disney excursion?
It's not a Disney excursion, it is through resort for a day. The cost is 60 for adults and 30 for kids. This price includes and 40 food and beverage credit for adults and 20 food and beverage credit for kids. The hotel is within walking distance from the port so no having to depend on taxi's getting you back to the port in time with traffic and what not.

Another site of James Bond filming!

we liked the catamarran and snorkel, it was the boat was literally almost directly next to the cruise ship and we were back by lunchtime

We have a few times. The first time it was interesting, but the second time we went, we had a guided tour. I don't know if that was something new or we just timed it the first time that we didn't have it. They were awesome! The guy who did our tour was very animated and it was just us and the couple we were traveling with. Very informative and an interesting look at that way of life.
Thanks! I'll look into tour times/prices before I go!

It was the same price for the tour as it was to walk through on our own. I don't know if we just missed it the first time or if they had added it.

Just checked ShoreTrips.com for our cruise and the cost is $228 per person. Disneys price for blue Lagoon island dolphin swim is $232...not enough to make a difference.

That's odd. I know there was quite a bit of difference when we went because I was paying for 11 people! :-) In any case, I see you've decided what to do. Enjoy your cruise!

Stay on Ship : )

Our next cruise might hire a boat and go snorkeling at a near by island....
For what it's worth, we went to Atlantis last year aboard the Dream & had a blast! It was a definite highlight of the trip. Breathtaking aquarium & wonderfully calm lagoon that we snorkeled in - booked thru DCL & had such a fabulous day. Would not hesitate to go back there. If your girls have never been on a cruise & never seen the ocean, I honestly think they would love it.

Have you been on any other DCL cruises? I would say by far Nassau/Atlantis has been our WORSE itinerary / stop. Atlantis is WAY over priced...
