Your favorite thing to do in Nassau

So if you don't need to carry around a passport at the ports then is it really necessary to get one? We are a family of 2A 2C and do not currently have them. Planning on a 3N Dream to Bahamas so if we just need them to get on the boat in the beginning and off the boat at the end of the trip to get through customs would a certified BC be better? We are not international travelers in the least and it will cost almost $400 for all of us to get passports, whereas we already have certified BC on hand.

By law, you definitely do not have to get them.

I would get a passport. You don't technically need them for this cruise, but if you have any kind of emergency and need to get home any way besides the cruise ship you will need one. It's an insurance policy. (And get traveler's insurance too!) We just had a co-worker who had a medical emergency in Hawaii and needed a medical flight to get home. The family would have been completely out of pocket for over $50,000 if the community hadn't rallied to raise the money. Your health insurance most likely does not cover medical evacuations.

anyone ever do a private boat tour of neighboring islands? Any recommendations? Would very much NOT to do Atlantis.....

Graycliff Chocolate tour .... so Yumm, and had time to shop a bit before and after the tour

I'm taking my 57 yr old dad on his first cruise ever in January '17. I personally don't like Nassau and usually stay on the ship but since it's my dad's first time visiting there, I want him to have a pleasant experience there. I really like the idea of making our own chocolates and I'm certain my dad would like that too. I wanted to know how everyone's first hand experiences were. Were the tour guides nice? Is it geared towards younger age groups or inclusive of everyone? How long was the experience? Did you feel that it was worth it? TIA for your help!

Yes we have done this. Great for all ages. The greycliff hotel is also very cool if your dad is a history buff.
