Looking to try a new three to four star hotel near Disneyland. I am tired of waiting for the Disney properties to drop below the nightly rates of $305 for the Paradise Pier, $400 for the Disneyland Hotel and $485 for the Grand Californian. Where have you stayed and what did you think? We have tried the nearby Sheratons and the Hilton, but I'd love to hear about your experience at either of those as well. Thank you.

Now, if only my husband's Club 33 contact comes through, we will be all set!

I mostly don't stay at too many different hotels that are three or four stars. The ones that that are really nice and would suggest if you don't stay on Disney property or the Sheraton's & Hilton are the Anaheim Marriott hotel right by the ACC & the Anabella hotel. The Anaheim Marriott have a lot great reviews as well as the Anabella. I have stayed at both hotels in the past and they are very nice and pleasant. Both hotels are above average price range around $100 to $200 a night.

The only problem I have with both hotels is that there is quite a lot of walking to the DLR (actually I have no problem with the walking at both hotels if you use the ART system). I believe it is about 15 to 20 minute walk for both hotels (the walking is not as bad as it seems). The other problem is that it also charges for parking which could be about $8 a night and I believe that you have pay for internet at both hotels.

Hope you get to go to Club 33 for your upcoming trip.

I have stayed at the Staybridge suites, which was nice.....pullout in living room was uncomfortable though according to the in-laws, but they had bbq's and a full breakfast (eggs and all that) The distance isn't very close though..... The last time we stayed at Best Western Park Pl Inn and I loved it. They were clean and right across the street, the beds were comfy 2, I like having a couch. This year we r staying at the Ramada Inn, cause Mom-in-law liked the pool, but I haven't stayed there yet.

Thanks Bret. We have tried the Mariott. I have not tried the Annabella yet. The other day when I checked the Annabella's site it said we needed two rooms (for the 4 of us which was weird) and I did not see any availibility. I will keep checking that one.

Thanks Jennifer. We have not stayed at any of those three. I will look into all of them.

I just asked DH about Club 33, and it is not looking good. I have been 32 years without it, so I guess it will be okay if we miss it this time as well.

I am not sure if it is a 3 or 4 star hotel, but if it is not I would rate it as such but the Desert Palms Hotels and Suites (not the desert inn) is really amazing. It is a bit of a walk (15 min?) but it is well worth it. The beds are comfy some rooms have park views, everyone is friendly and helpful, and most things are standard (free parking, wifi, fridge, microwave). They let us check in like 9 hours early and were very nice and helpful, I would recommend this hotel to anyone(:

Thanks Raina. I will look into that one as well. I just got a suggestion for the same hotel on a different thread.

You are very welcome, it has been our favorite hotel so far, we keep trying out new ones. I hope your trip is amazing! :D

As far as 3 or 4 star hotels, we have stayed at the Hyatt Regency. We were very impressed with this hotel! It has a great restaurant on site and a starbucks! They do offer suites for a little bit extra which are nice as well! They have 3 different pools also if you plan on swimming. I loved the customer service at this hotel. Mostly, we try to stay on Harbor Blvd. While I love a 3 or 4 star hotel, the benefit of being able to walk back and forth to the parks is a trade off I am more than willing to make! Enjoy! :hippie:

We've stayed at a lot of them and if I can't do a Disney hotel we like Hojo, Desert Inn and Ramada Maingate. If you don't mind driving or the ART then the Staybridge is nice esp if you have a large family as is the Embassy Suites. Good luck. :)

When are you going? Maybe they only have King rooms left...:confused3

We've stayed at Hojos, Portofino Inn & Suites and Hampton Inn (further away). But we also have 4 kids and need a kids suite.

Thank you. We are going for my son's first birthday, so I hope it will be amazing.

We've been using this website to book a great hotel at a great price that will include all your tickets into the park. WWW.getawaytoday.com

I will look into that as well. Thank you.

I have never stayed at a Hyatt near Disneyland, but DH is a member of the Hyatt guest club. I have been impressed with other Hyatts we've tried. We are driving, so I do not mind if it is not within walking distance.

More great suggestions. Thank you. My immediate family only has four: me, DH, DS5 and DS who will turn 1 on the trip. I am hoping a lot of extended family will go as well. For some of the bigger families, I will let them know what I research on those places.

I think that is exactly what was happening. I tested it by trying just two adults though, and it said no availibility. It was weird.

Thank you. I have heard of a kid's suite before but have never seen what that is. I am really looking forward to looking into those hotels. We are planning to try for another kid soon, so that will probably be in our future someday. Rather than spending $305 in a standard room at the Paradise Pier, I would rather spend $200-$300 and get something much nicer.

You can use Priceline or Hotwire and get a VERY good, reasonable price for 3-4 start places. Use the Priceline cheat and save a ton of $. We've stayed at Red Lion, Hyatt Regency, Crowne Plaza, Anaheim Hilton, Anaheim Marriott, Sheraton Garden Grove, Ayres Inn Orange, Hotel Menage, Anabella, etc. Always a good time and value.

We booked the Desert Palms for our upcoming July trip. We've never stayed there before but have heard good things. There are six of us - DH, myself, our three kids and our niece. We've booked the Yuha suite - king bed in one room and bunks plus pullout couch in the other room. Prices on their website right now show $160-ish per night on average, I think we paid a little less than that.

I prefer HOJO & Candy Cane.

But have also stayed at 2 different Holiday Inns, Marriott Suites, Doubletree, Super 8, Ramada Maingate & once at the Paradise Pier (and a few others I can't remember) I usually book through priceline. All were fine, but we aren't picky either.

I am cheap though and don't want to pay more than $75/night and always manage not to (except for Paradise Pier).

I recommend HOJO. We have 6 trips booked with them this year because I took advantage of their AP rate ($59). I would rather spend the money somewhere else especially as I wasn't very impressed with Paradise Pier, it was nice but it didn't feel much different than the other hotels.

Thanks. I have tried some of those but want to try others. I will look into it. I've never used a travel site to book a trip before but will do it this time if it gets me a better deal.

Thank you. I am getting really excited the more I hear about the Desert Palms. If I do not end up with that one this time, I may have to try it for sure next time.

It is amazing that you find rooms for less than $75 a night. I need to shop with you. The Paradise Pier does not look like a $305 a night hotel, so I am afraid I will be very disappointed too. DH wants to stay at the Grand Californian ($485), but I will not pay more for that hotel than we paid at the Grand Floridian ($465weekdays-$480weekends but also got free dining). If I am paying that much, I want my money's worth. I would rather pay closer to $200 but $300 tops. Thanks for the info. I am definitely looking into the Mariott Suites. You got them for less than $75. I am impressed.

A kids suite has a King in one room and bunk beds in another room. The one at HOJOs has a pull out "chair" for an additional small twin size bed, Portofino has a pull out couch that's more the size of a double bed. BTW, we got the kids suite at the Portofino for $105/night just before Christmas.

The first time I went in the 90's, we stayed at Jolly Roger, yuck! We stayed 2x at Best Western Park Place Inn and enjoyed it both times, location is awesome, never had a problem and it was very clean, and we've stayed 2x at GCH.

Priceline. I have a strategy that works well. But I also don't always have set dates and can be flexible.
