Your best & worst of online Christmas shopping

Best - ZAPPOS! Offered one day free shipping on the 23rd if your order was in by a certain time.

Then - UPS dropped the ball - they left the package sitting for 24 hours after scanning it into their system for air delivery.

Best - ZAPPOS customer service - emailed a very nice cash coupon code for my disappointment and the item will arrive tomorrow.

I can see the item sitting in a town 45 minutes away on the UPS tracking system.

So, I wrapped up a copy of the email and I'm off to dinner with it! Tacky or what?

Best: ThinkGeek. I ordered several items and due to the ice storm, the package has been sitting in the distribution center for 5 days. I called on the 23rd to see if there was anything they could do. They overnighted another package free of charge and said when I get the original package to please send it back. Wonderful customer service!!!

Worst: UPS!!!!! LOL

Waiting for UPS today......tracking says item is on a truck.....

Best is Amazon. I did the majority of my shopping through the site. I have prime shipping but some of the items were from 3rd party vendors and I had to pay shipping. Since they were hard to find items I didn't mind. One day I came home to 5 boxes on my doorstep from Amazon.

Worst was Ulta. I got the items in time for Christmas but the package took around 10 business days to arrive. That was within the window I was given but it seemed so much longer that the other sites shipping.

I also had no problems with cafepress.com, thinkgeek.com or DSW.

I also want to say my postman is the best. I was home sick one day when the doorbell rang. The postman wanted to make sure that a package was at the correct address because my sister was sending my nephew's presents to my home to hide them. Not only did the postman check before dropping it off (also wanted to make sure there was no fraudulent use of my address) but he picked up my newspaper that was at the end of my walkway and brought it to me.

All of my orders came in on time and correct so I can't complain about any of the companies. Here's who I ordered from:

Amazon, Best Buy, Newegg, Dicks Sporting Goods, and Kohls.

Someone needs to bump this post next year about November to remind us of who we should and shouldn't order from...

I ordered Lego sets from Lego.com, Walmart, Amazon and Toys R Us. Walmart took the longest to receive from. I had the free trial of Prime with Amazon and while it worked great for the legos the Diary of a Wimpy Kid book took like 12 days. I kept checking the tracking and it was even at our UPS distribution place and then left and went south....we chalked it up to being left on the truck or something. I got it in pleny of time but I now call Prime the free 2-12 day shipping. I just couldn't believe the jump in price though for Legos over a 2week period, I had a Chima set in my cart that was like $65 and I kept checking Amazon and Lego.com, went back to the cart which was at TRU and it dropped to $44.59 so I grabbed that real quick. I got most of the sets for half price just for shopping at the beginning of the month.

best: Amazon (as always :lovestruc ) and Target. I have been totally spoiled by prime, so I expect everything to arrive two days after I order, and Target managed to live up to my exacting expectations

Worst: Kohls! I placed a big order on Black Friday, and things arrived very piecemeal. One of the packages contained a sheet set and a wine opener. They were packed in a HUGE box (freakishly huge) and there was no packing material inside. So, the sheet set banged around in the box for its whole trip and managed to smash the plastic box that housed the wine opener.

I don't know who they have working at their shipping facility, but even my 4 year old could pack a better box.
