Your BEST WDW theme park secret! Part II

While, I don't mind at all if people post our document on-line for public viewing and grabbing, please keep in mind that we have tried this at least three times in the past, and it has not worked.

The people that post them, lose interest and the document becomes old and outdated and sometimes no longer accessible.

There are a lot of Disney blogs out there, and I am updating the document, sometimes more than once daily.

No, you do not have to have the latest and greatest copy. You can get whatever version you wish, of course; however, please keep in mind that the versions popping up around the web (through the complete courtesy of others mind you--I have no beef with any of them--this is actually a very nice gesture on their part) will not be formatted for index cards or up to date.

No big deal, just a heads up folks. :)

Is it possible to get a copy of this file emailed to me at harningtj @ gmail.com?

Thanks!

I used it in this form on my last trip....I could read it via my iphone between snapshots.

The only thing I didn't do was to edit it live. Which would be nice, having live updates available in real time while you are on site!

Also note....I offered to give you editing access to the page....in real time......

Hey,

I agree with you on the live part. I think it would be MUCH better having it on an itouch/iphone versus a paper version, but you also said that if PEOPLE would like to update it, you would be happy to grant them access.

Again--if PEOPLE want to access it and update it, that is fine. What "I" am doing is keeping a hard copy of what has been posted in these two threads, and as new secrets are added to our threads and to blogs around the sphere, I add them to our document.

There is only one of me, and we can be certain, with only one person in charge of edits and adding and subtracting things, that it doesn't get "messed up" for lack of better words.

I am not saying that the document is perfect, but it has been sent around the world and out many, many times and with many accolades.

I am all for the digital age and having it someplace where everyone can access it, but a lot of people do NOT have have access to the internet via mobile means yet (myself included), so we choose to take the paper version.

As I said above, once the document is your hands (after I have sent it to you), you guys are more than welcome to do whatever you want with it.

Post it where you like, etc. etc. etc. I was just saying that "heads up"--if you access the document from anywhere besides me, it may not be up to date or done the way I have done it.

Again, let me be very clear here--I don't care where you get the document from or what you do with it once you have it, but for me personally--I keep a copy of all new tips, secrets, and backstories in my document and I keep it organized in a certain way.

Because when I go to the Parks, that is the way "I" like it. If you want a copy of the version that I keep, then you can request it. If you want the digital copy, you can get it off the link above.

Again--No big deal. Get it where you want. :goodvibes

I agree with Deb, Too many postings of the document nomatter how good the intent will only lead to outdated & contaminated info.

Following this thead for the last year & half, I have learned alot, I have never seen anyone denied a copy if requested.

She knows the reliable sources and reseaches them before listing, has a true passion for Disney.

I feel this is something that is better left alone, and no one is better for the job than Deb:worship::woohoo::cool1::cheer2::dancer:

And when at WDW always remember: Por favor mantengase alejado de las puertas!:thumbsup2

Wow...I just don't know what to say.

What a NICE post!!!!

different guide each time I take a trip to WDW. I figure it's $15-$20 spent on a much more expensive vacation and I may pick up something interesting. I decided to buy different ones since my experience with the UG is that much of the content is the same in successive editions and I like to get the different perspectives offered by the editors.

For this trip I just bought the Complete Guide to Walt Disney World. I'm barely into the MK part (first of the parks) but find it has a lot of details related to the rides and attractions. Many of them will be familiar to people who read this thread but I found some items that are helpful to me. For example, the guide goes through the scene sequence for Splash Mountain setting the scenes and providing the lines. While I have always watched the scenes I don't think I have ever picked up on the whole story line and how the sequence of scenes work together. (And honestly I was very young when the movie came out.) The guide does the same thing for POTC but I was already familiar with the story for that.

I see Mr. Dark's point, and respectfully disagree with Commando. Having followed this thread for many years, I think it worked better when there was one document, SeashoreCM's web doc that people could link to themselves now found here:

http://www.cockam.com/disscav.htm

While I appreciate everything Deb is doing, and moreso since she has been going out and finding secrets and adding them to her doc, I find this thread gets weighed down by people posting their user names and emails asking for copies without adding secrets. I rarely follow the thread anymore because of this.

Just my two cents.

That's fine, and we are all allowed our viewpoints.

The main purpose of this thread when it was started years ago was to post things people didn't know about Disney-hence, "Best Kept Secrets."

It slowly evolved to secrets, tips, and backstories. All things people never knew about Disney.

As we ran out of the main/big things, the bloggers and Cast Members who knew more than us average folks began to fill in even more cracks, and those are things we now add to the thread.

Like I posted above, anyone can post the thread for the entire internet community to read and copy, print and download, etc. But, what I have found from the above-mentioned poster and others that have done this "for me" in the past, is that the document SITS there.

No one takes the posts off this thread, edits them cleanly, and puts them in the new document. So, you end up with an older thread.

The main reason I didn't take Mr. Dark up on his offer to be the editor of an internet document is that I barely have enough time to keep up with being Mommy, part-time teacher, and all the other things I do.

...and since I keep a copy for myself, to take into the Parks on vacation, I know I am always going to update and keep current the copy I have here at home.

So, that said--yes, it can be easier for you to click on a link and download, but it can be just as easy to click on a link and e-mail me for a copy. IT'S YOUR CHOICE.

If you don't care about keeping it up to date, then go for any link you find out there on the internet. The basics will all be in that document.

There are others who want all the new information, and they e-mail time and time again for the document.

As for the thread getting bogged down, I have to agree. That has always been the rule of this thread and everyone can attest to it. Please DO NOT leave requests for the document on here. It bogs down the thread (much like this OT conversation we keep having) and brings people unnecessarily to the boards. Please pump up your posts until you get to the required amount to DM me.

On a side note, when you get the e-mail notifications in your Inbox, you can scroll down and see what was posted. If it's just a request for the document, you DON'T have to click on the link....

Thanks for all the opinions on this subject! Sorry for hijacking the thread!

More from Disney Shawn about the Castle:

"Immediately inside the castle walls are a handful of facilities to serve the needs of the royal family and their distinguished guests. The first of these is Castle Couture, home to the Royal Dressmaker to the Kingdom. The architecture here is still heavily connected to the castle itself, but there are plenty of fantasy touches.

The heraldic crest above the door includes a crown along with needle and thread. Take a look at the finials over the entrance. You may notice they're comprised of pincushions, scissors and ribbon. There's even a swirl of pink ribbon flying up around the dress sculpture at the peak, a nod to the way the birds and mice built their first dress for Cinderella.

Castle Couture is the place where anyone who's anyone would come to be outfitted for a Royal Ball or celebration. The interior of the space is sumptuous and covered in gold accents, befitting the noble stature of those who are served here.

In the back of the shop, beyond the showroom, are the Royal Dressing Chambers and Dressmaker's Workshop, where visiting Princesses might try on their custom creations.

Of course, Cinderella herself would have all of her dresses handmade and delivered directly to her private chambers inside the castle.

The Royal Dressmakers at Castle Couture have crafted their fair share of fantastic gowns over the years. One of their proudest achievements, the 16th birthday dress worn by none other than Princess Aurora, is on display in the center of the shop. Even though time has passed and their Briar Rose has moved on, the good fairies Flora and Merryweather still continue their argument over the color.

Make it pink! Make it blue!"

Hey Minnie,

I have it. I did for my own personal trip to the World, and as word got out, the document got increasingly more and more popular.

Now, I maintain it for everyone.

It's a compilation of this thread. Sort and organized by Park and ride, etc. To make it easy to read when you are in the Parks.

If you want a copy, send me a private message or e-mail me. It's huge at this point, so I have to e-mail it out.

I update it whenever I find something new to add to it. :)

We weren't adding anything there for a while, but thanks to Jack Spence and Disney Shawn, we are on a roll again! Those two guys are incredible in their Disney knowledge!
Is there anyway I could get this emailed to me also. My family and I are going to DW Feb 13-20. It would be such a great help.

Sincerely,
Who Dat Fan

Hi

I also would love a copy of the document but was unable to send you a PM. Been to Disney 10 times in the past 10 years and would love to see it in a different light. If you wouldn't mind sending it, my email is wendyhagerty at msn dot com

Thanks so much

If you collect pressed pennies or quarters, check out presscoins.com they have a complete list of all the locations and current designs that are in each machine.

The latest announcement on this site is that the 1st Dime machine is now on-stage in Tomorrowland Arcade in the MK.

It does not say what designs or if it is usable yet, but with only 1 around :teacher: it would be a rare keepsake since it is the 1st:woohoo:

If anyone finds out any info on this keep us posted:confused3

...as stated before, do not post requests for the document on here.

I can't keep up with them, and I need your e-mail addresses to do it. Please either PM or e-mail me directly.

Thanks!

...have I never seen, been to, or known the back stories to these buildings and places?

Yesterday, I realized after reading Disney Shawn's blog, that I had never been inside the Royal Seamstress' shop, and today, I'm learning all about Sir Mickey's!

Thank goodness Cast Members are so willing to share back stories with all of us Guests!

********
The Knight Armory

Across the way but equally close to the castle is Sir Mickey's, a shop with two distinct identities, the first of which we'll explore today. The southern wing of the shop continues the French Gothic look of Cinderella Castle and is home to the Armory, outfitting the brave Knights whose task it is to defend the Kingdom.

Some of those Knights can be seen just outside, in the form of Donald Duck and his mischievous nephews. They're leaving their own armor at the door, as instructed. On the wall hangs a banner, warning of a giant at large. Huey has irreverently scribbled a mustache on the face of the giant, but we should take heed. The big guy may just "pop up" later on in the Sir Mickey's story.

Inside the Knights' keep, the decor is decidedly masculine, quite different from nearby Castle Couture. Heavy beams and candle-filled iron chandeliers dominate the room. Scattered about are a selection of shields, armor and weaponry awaiting use.

A door at one end of the room bears a crest featuring a two-headed eagle, an ancient heraldic image symbolizing strength and courage. The Knights will need plenty of both if they plan to defend against that giant. Of course, I understand that he who vanquishes said giant will earn fifty golden pazoozahs and the hand of the fair Princess Minnie!

Oh my! I just looked at the new posters! Those are hilarious! Thanks for sharing!

You're welcome! Some more are over at the Muppets' Facebook page, though I'm not sure that those ones are actually at Hollywood Studios.

Also, I just remembered about some "secrets" that we tried to look for in August and couldn't find. One of them was the wooden leg named Smith (a reference to Mary Poppins) that's supposed to be in the Frontierland train station. The other was the sign marked "Electrical Main Street Parade Inside during the queue for the Barnstormer. I don't know if we were looking in the wrong places, or they've been taken away, but I'd thought I'd share anyway.

I'm glad the book has been helpful! One of the best parts of writing this book has been researching all the interesting backstories and obscure references that can be found throughout Walt Disney World. The place has so much depth; there is more to see that can ever be seen :)
