your best Disney decision

Finally taking our first trip is our best decision!!

We're not members yet, but will be in a couple of weeks. And already the DW and I have said we expect to look back and think DVC was one of the best decisions we ever made.

I convinced my Disney virgin husband that we needed to take our (then) 2 kids to Disney and that a weekend before a cruise left out of Tampa would be a perfect time to go. DH hates crowds and has little patience for things like that. He reluctantly agreed to an obligatory trip to get me off his back! Even told me to book at Contemporary because he didn't want to hassle with bus crowds!

So my best decision ever? Coming to these boards, The Unofficial Guide, and TGM (this was back in 2009!) and planning about 6 months before we ever left to ensure a great trip with minimial wait times...On the way home following the trip and cruise, he announced I needed to plan a "proper" vacation next year of a week instead of just a weekend! We have been Disney vacationers ever since!

6 years later and an additional 2 kids later, Disney is still our preferred family vacation spot!

Staying on site for the first time was our best decision and Going by ourselves as a family just the 3 of us.

Not listening to the mid-day hotel nap folks. Though to be fair we go in Oct/Nov when it is much easier to stay out all day long.

Having my DW talk me into purchasing DVC at OKW back in 1994!!!!

Ours was staying at a Monorail resort. We mainly go to MK and EP, so it really made sense. We stayed at POFQ two years and as nice as that resort was, waiting on the busses got old after a while. We now always stay at the Poly.

Deciding to move to FL to get the FLR AP and then deciding to move all the way to Disney instead so we could go all the time. My next Disney decision is trying to get hired part time!! I'll need a job in two weeks after my remote position moves back in house, and I don't want to work anywhere else! All my friends love it! Also, a smaller awesome Disney decision, ate lunch at Sana'a at AKL yesterday, first time I had been to AKL. Wowee! It's like paradise!

Buying an Annual Passport in spite of living a thousand miles away. I forget the exact motivation, perhaps MagiCon in 92, but there were enough days planned to justify the cost over regular tickets. But once I had it, that enabled resort discounts, total freedom to go into the parks, even for a couple of hours, and other stuff that I forget.

On MK days eating dinner at a nearby resort to get out of the chaos and enjoy a cocktail! (Or two...)


Yes, I know you can get it at BOG but I can never snag that hard to get ADR!

RD, and taking a break during the day. My DH loves the commando style of touring but now that we have kids he's forced to take a break and he now appreciates them.

We also enjoy staying late in the parks. some of our best times on our last trip where when we stayed late (12pm closing). It really does feel a little more magical with all the lights in an uncrowded park.

I cannot wait until our kids are old enough to stay late!! Right now we have to put them to bed by 7:30 as they wake up at 6am no matter the bed time and do not nap. The idea of a late night in the parks seems so magical! MK and World Showcase are especially places I would love to visit after dark.

Buying DVC! The resorts and accommodations are pretty awesome!

Renting a car is must for us. It's so nice to have your own wheels in WDW!

Finally buying into DVC last December after considering it for 6 years! Wish we had done it sooner! Also- getting Photopass (Memory Maker) every trip!! Photos are my main souvenirs (besides an occasional tshirt) and I treasure my Disney photos showing trips over the years as the kids are growing up! Lastly, I would say another great thing that I do every trip is to place an order thru Garden Grocer and have water, sodas, snacks and breakfast items delivered to our hotel. They are super reliable and I pay the hotel bell boys to deliver our order to our room. Super easy and convenient!
