Young, classy baseball fan gets a nice 'payback' from Griffey

That is a really nice sports story for a change. It was a class act all the way around.

Griffey is a classy guy, so I don't expect anything less from him.

Any true baseball fan would give them their ball....these people who make money off of record setting balls aren't true baseball fans. I love this story. Kudos to that young man.

What a great story! Thanks for sharing.

Classy move by Junior. A real feel-good story for a true baseball fan who "gets it."

On the day it happened, Crummley gave up the ball, said by some collectors to be worth $50,000, to Griffey and said, "It is not my ball; it belongs to him."

Crummley's right. That's the way it should be.

Wow.

Classy move by Ken Griffey, Jr., and classy move by the college student.

Perfect example of what goes around, comes around. :D

To me, this is the way things really ought to be--people taking care of other people.

I'm no bleeding heart, in fact I am a realist so while I know that these days we often hear about the seedier side of life, it's really nice to hear a great story like this involving a sport I really love.

Good job and thanks for the article.

I agree. It was a great, classy move by both parties, and that is a perfect example of baseball "the way it should be". :D

Thanks for the article.

Ken Griffey, Jr is really nice guy in person. He sign all my concession stand workers balls without being ask to.

I think what Griffey did was very nice, and he should have done that. Had I been the student I would have sold the ball in a heartbeat. $50,000 is a life changing amount of money for a college student like me who pretty much pays for everything. I would be able to graduate free of debt and maybe buy into DVC.

That being said, I'm a baseball purist and I'm glad the ball is going to the hall of fame.

I'm such a 'sap' for baseball memorabilia like that, my first thought would be to just hang on to that ball (forget the $50,000, seriously), but I'm 99.9% positive I'd turn it over to the player.

Good moves by BOTH parties!! :sunny:

yeah its a great story...it was all over the news in St. Louis while I was visitng this weekend. I met Griffey Jr. on Monday at the cards/reds game....didnt sign my ball, but shook my hand. He's a good guy.

I also got to meet 3rd baseman Scott Rolen and he signed my baseball...I was SOOO excited! talk about an awesome weekend..I'll try to post about it later tell you guys all about it..right now Im to tired to type much.

I would have a tough time deciding what to do with the ball...I would like to think that I would give it back...but that kind of money could change my family's future....such a hard choice.

Now if only the reds could get the entire roster 100% healthy and another good starter. They are only 7 games out of first. I have hope.
